Alves seals Qatar switch
Middlesbrough's record signing Afonso Alves has left the club after completing his move to Qatar.
Alves was signed in January 2008 when Boro paid Dutch outfit Heerenveen more than £12million for his services. The Brazil international initially settled in well on Teesside, opening his account with a brace against Manchester United and finished the season with a hat-trick against Manchester City. But he flopped last term with just four goals as Boro were relegated. Over the summer Alves made it quite clear he wanted to leave the club and he went AWOL during pre-season as he failed to turn up for training. He later returned but he has never been in contention to play in the Championship for Boro. The 28-year-old has now signed a three-year deal with Al Sadd, who have paid around £6million for the player. Alves is the fourth big-name departure from The Riverside this season, following the sales of Stewart Downing, Tuncay Sanli and Robert Huth. ------------------------ Even more threadbare upfront now..... |

wow. great. 6 million? I'd say that's a good deal.
I may be green, but at least I'm not a lemon. |

Lets hope the club can move on in a positive way now that the Alves saga has been concluded.

Probably start scoring 4 fun again now that he's left hpefuly we can try sort out some loan signings now.
he looks like he' lost the weight he put on and now looks very lean, also he looks well buzzing at signing conference doues'nt he, well he don't wanna play 4 brazil again signing 4 s**t like that and just think he went on strike so he did'nt have to play in are supposably bad league and he ends up with all the camels great carrer move |

RE: Alves seals Qatar switch
Boro have issued a statement to the press saying technically he is still our player as the signed paperwork has not been received at the Riverside. (They probably mean the paper with the queens head on it).

RE: Alves seals Qatar switch
We now have a strikeforce of Emnes, Aliadiere, lita and franks. Three years ago it was Viduka, Yakubu and Hasselbaink. Financial problems or not, this decline in quality is NOT acceptable. Those players together wont score the same as just one of the other strikers.

RE: Alves seals Qatar switch
Absolute micky mouse player for a micky mouse league. No doubt he will go there and bang the goals in. Some players are just not good enough for the top flight and he was one of them.
Hopefully we draw a line through him and move on. And hopefully get a half decent striker on loan. |
