Jonny Howson is set to be Garry Monk’s first signing as Boro boss, with the midfielder having a medical on Teesside today.

The 29 year old is expected to join for £5 million having spent six years at Norwich City. Earlier in the week Norwich head coach Daniel Farke admitted he’d like to keep hold of Howson.

“I have said it a few times about Jonny Howson. I like him as a person, I love him as a player.”

“I think he is a pretty good player who can play number six, eight and 10. In my opinion one of the best midfielders in the Championship and I would like to work with him longer.”

"I know there are speculations and I don’t want to talk about them. It is part of the business. Jonny is my player. I appreciate him."
