Boro defender expected to join Leeds United
Leeds United are reportedly set to sign the Middlesbrough FC defender on a free transfer in the summer.
Ayala is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Championship and has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months, due to his contract coming to an end in the summer.
It is understood that Leeds United were prepared to sign the centre back in January, but an injury scuppered the transfer.
Leeds United sporting director, Victor Orta, knows the defender well from his time at Boro and this could be key in Leeds tempting the defender to make a switch.
Boro fans will be hopeful that a last dash move is made by the club to retain the 29-year-old, as he is regarded as a crucial cog in defence. Fellow centre-back Dael Fry has been linked with a big money move to the Premier League which means that Boro will have to look to strengthen this position.
Sheffield Wednesday defender Morgan Fox has been lined up as a possible replacement and is an ideal replacement who is capable of playing in the left-back and centre-back positions.
