Boro Finalise £3m Deal for Defender Alfie Jones
Middlesbrough are set to complete a £3 million transfer for defender Alfie Jones from Hull City.
Middlesbrough Football Club are finalising a £3 million transfer deal for defender Alfie Jones, who is set to join the Riverside Stadium ahead of the new season.
The 27-year-old centre-back has spent the last three years with Hull City, having joined from Southampton in 2020. During his time at Hull, Jones established himself as a reliable figure in defence, featuring prominently last season in 41 league matches. His performances were instrumental in helping the Tigers secure their place in the Championship, finishing 21st. Performance statistics from Fbref.com reveal that Jones averaged 0.72 tackles, 0.96 interceptions, and 4.83 clearances per 90 minutes, underscoring his effectiveness as a defender.
Hull's decision to part ways with Jones stems from concerns regarding his contract, which is set to expire in 2026, with an option for an additional year. With the risk of losing him for free next summer, the £3 million transfer fee represents a favourable arrangement for Hull City, who now face the challenge of replacing a key player.
Although Jones missed Hull's recent pre-season fixture against Kasimpasa due to a minor injury, the finalisation of his transfer is expected imminently as he departs the club’s training camp in Turkey. This move aligns with a broader trend, as other players such as Marvin Mehlem, Xavier Simons, and Joao Pedro have also left Hull this summer.

Throughout his five-year spell with the Tigers, Jones has made 191 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals from his defensive role. His adaptability, capable of operating in midfield when required, could prove beneficial for Middlesbrough as they aim for improvement this season.
