Boro given green light to retain loan duo

Middlesbrough have been handed a huge boost as Manchester City have accepted to extend the loan deals of Patrick Roberts and Lukas Nmecha.

The duo moved on loan to the Riverside in the January transfer window but had their spells cut short by the postponement to the Championship about three months ago.

There had been fears regarding the availability of the players with the League expected to return in the coming weeks.

Doubts furthered when both players returned to the Etihad last week for training, however, it has been confirmed that both Roberts and Nmecha will regroup with Boro this week.

According to a report from TeessideLive, Manchester City confirmed “we can clarify that Patrick and Lukas will return to Middlesbrough to complete their loans.”

Roberts was a highlight for Boro, with the former Celtic player brought in to solve the club's creativity issues. Despite a bright start, the 23-year-old suffered a hamstring injury cutting his season short.

Nmecha, meanwhile, made 10 appearances including three starts in the league. However, the 21-year-old has failed to light up the Championship, failing to score since his arrival at the Riverside.

Despite their struggles, Woodgate will be delighted to have both players as Boro look to beat the drop.
