'Boro join Rangers and Millwall in race to sign Motherwell prodigy'

The 20-year-old winger has caught the eye of a number of teams after putting in a string of impressive performances in his debut season for Motherwell.

Middlesbrough have joined the ranks of Rangers and fellow Championship side Millwall in the race to sign winger Jake Hastie from Motherwell, as per reports from the Scottish Sun.

Hastie spent the first half of this season at Scottish Championship club Alloa, where he managed four goals in 27 games. His return to Fir Park immediately injected new dynamism into Motherwell as they went into a five-game winning streak with him in the side.

So far in this season, Hastie has found the back of the net 9 times for his side, with 4 of those goals coming for Motherwell in Hastie’s last 5 appearances for the club.

The red hot form of Hastie hasn’t gone unnoticed as, in addition to Boro, Scottish heavyweights Celtic and Rangers are also keeping tabs on the player.

In addition to his form, another thing which is piquing the interest of clubs in Hastie is his contract situation. His current contract with The Well runs out in the summer thereby making the player a prized free agent.

To stop that from happening, Motherwell have offered Hastie a new three-year deal, though the player is yet to put the pen on paper to prolong his stay at the club.

That said, while there is nothing official about the future of the 20-year-old, Hastie denied in February any intention to leave Millwall in the summer.

"I don't want to go anywhere," he said. "I want to stay here, keep my feet on the ground and keep progressing."

"I've been lucky to come in straight away. Hopefully I can keep doing what I'm doing."
