Boro linked Louie Barry Set to Return to Aston Villa After Successful Loan

Louie Barry is set to return to Aston Villa in January following a successful loan spell at Stockport County, where he scored 14 goals in 21 appearances. Middlesbrough have shown interest in the young forward as the transfer window approaches.

Louie Barry is set to return to Aston Villa in January, following a successful loan spell at Stockport County, where he has made a significant impact by scoring 14 goals in 21 appearances this season. This decision comes amid interest from several Championship clubs, including Middlesbrough, who are keen to secure the young forward's services ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Stockport County confirmed the news in an official statement, which read: "Stockport County can confirm that forward Louie Barry is set to be recalled from his loan spell by parent club Aston Villa in January. Louie's final game of his second loan spell at the Club will be our New Year's Day fixture at home to Birmingham City, before the 21-year-old returns to Villa Park for a period of assessment with Unai Emery's first-team squad."

According to Teesside Live, Middlesbrough's interest in Barry has been noted, although it remains uncertain whether they will actively pursue a transfer in January. Currently, Boro's squad is at full capacity, which necessitates player departures to accommodate any new signings. Alex Gilbert is anticipated to be sent out on loan if a suitable opportunity arises, potentially creating space within the squad.

Barry primarily operates on the left wing, where he would compete with existing players such as Riley McGree, Delano Burgzorg, and Micah Hamilton. While Hamilton has yet to make a significant impact since his transfer from Manchester City, loaning him out would not free up a squad spot, as he is classified as an under-21 player and does not require registration.

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has previously addressed the club's transfer strategy for January, indicating a willingness to enhance the squad if the right opportunities arise. He noted that there are ways to create room for new additions, although he expressed satisfaction with the current depth and quality of his team, suggesting that there is no urgent need for reinforcements.

Furthermore, interest in key players could lead to potential departures if enticing offers are received. Emmanuel Latte Lath, who recently scored his ninth goal of the season, is one such player attracting attention, with his agent hinting that they "expect something to happen" when the transfer window opens. This scenario could further complicate Boro's pursuit of new signings, including Barry, as they navigate the complexities of the January transfer market.

As the window approaches, Middlesbrough will need to carefully assess their options, balancing the desire to strengthen the squad with the realities of their current team and the potential for player movement.
