'Boro make £5 million Transfer Deadline Day bid for Scotland centre-back'

Middlesbrough FC have enquired about the 22-year-old Scotland centre-back.

Middlesbrough have joined the race to sign Scotland centre-back Scott McKenna from Aberdeen before the transfer deadline at 11pm today.

The highly-rated centre-back has also attracted the eye of Stoke City, who are attempting to lure the player to the Championship.

Having seen Danny Batth return to his parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers this week, and subsequently join Stoke City on a permanent deal, Boro are looking to find a suitable replacement, with McKenna ticking the boxes.

Although Stoke City have signed Batth this transfer window, they are keen to sign another centre-back.

Reports suggest both Stoke City and Boro have made a £5 million bid for the 22-year-old, although Aberdeen value the player closer to the £10 million mark. Earlier in the transfer window, bids from Celtic and Aston Villa were rejected, with the figure reported to be £6 million.

The 6ft 2ins has excelled to be a top defender in the Scottish Premier League and earned his first international call up in 2018. He captained the Scotland team on just his fourth international appearance against Mexico in June.
