Boro monitoring Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland amid Premier League interest

The situation of Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, who has attracted the attention of a host of clubs, is being closely monitored by Boro.

According to Graeme Bailey from HITC, Boro are monitoring the situation of Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, facing competition from a number of clubs including Celtic, Everton, Sheffield United, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Southampton, and Hull City.

In 21 Scottish Premiership matches this season, Shankland has scored 13 goals, recently helping Hearts secure a 2-1 win over Livingston, though his signing could cost in excess of £5 million according to Football League World.

In the early stages of the January transfer window, Southampton and Middlesbrough have already been battling over Aston Villa midfielder Finn Azaz, with Boro looking set to win that battle.

Hearts manager Steven Naismith has made it clear that if the price is right, Shankland may end up departing this month with 18 months left on his contract at Tynecastle.
