Downing Faces Lengthy Lay-Off

Stewart Downing could be sidelined for up to six months after picking up a suspected broken foot in the Aston Villa clash.

This news could see Stewart Downing remaining at Middlesbrough FC through the Summer transfer window, where he was expected to sign for either Liverpool FC, Everton, Aston Villa or Spurs at a price of £10 million.

Boro’s head of medical, Grant Downie said “We will not be able to assess the full extent of Stewart’s injury until the bruising and swelling go down. We are still waiting for further tests and investigations to find out the best way to manage with the problem. Stewart has already seen a leading orthopaedic expert in London and is in the best possible hands.”
