George Edmundson Returns to Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town have opted to recall defender George Edmundson from his loan spell at Middlesbrough. The 27-year-old has been a key figure for Middlesbrough this season, having started 20 of their 27 Championship matches.

Reports from The Northern Echo indicate that Middlesbrough had been engaged in discussions with Ipswich Town regarding a potential permanent transfer for Edmundson. However, with no agreement reached, Ipswich exercised their right to bring the player back to Portman Road.

This recall appears to be a strategic move by Ipswich, possibly aimed at paving the way for further negotiations concerning a permanent deal. It is worth noting that, having already represented both Ipswich and Middlesbrough this season, Edmundson is now ineligible to play for any other club until the end of the current campaign.

Edmundson's contract with Ipswich is set to expire at the season's conclusion, and he had expressed a desire to make a permanent switch to Middlesbrough.

In an official statement, Middlesbrough acknowledged the defender's contributions, stating: "George Edmundson has been recalled by Ipswich Town. The defender's loan spell was brought to an end by the Premier League club ahead of Boro's clash with West Bromwich Albion. The 27-year-old made 20 appearances for Boro after joining the club on loan at the end of August. George is out of contract at Ipswich at the end of the season. Everyone at MFC would like to thank George for all his hard work during his time with us and wishes him all the very best for the future."
