Jonny Howson signs new deal with Boro

Middlesbrough midfielder Jonny Howson has agreed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The hardworking midfielder has been rewarded for his performances this season with the club handing him a new deal.

Jonny Howson has been one of the consistent performers for the club, starting a large part of the season in the centre-back position due to the injury problems that affected the defence.

He has so far made 37 appearances this term and is considered as a crucial aspect of the Boro setup.

He has also integrated into the first team under the new manager Neil Warnock and started in last weekend's victory at Stoke City. Middlesbrough also announced that Adam Clayton, George Friend, Marvin Johnson and Ryan Shotton have also signed short term extensions with the club.

This is crucial, as the quartet will be able to help the club in its fight to survive the drop. It has also been confirmed that the duo of Rudy Gestede and Daniel Ayala have left the club with their deals set to expire on Tuesday.

The clarity in the contract situation at the club has been resolved amicably with the only exception of Ayala, whose exit was marked with controversy.

Neil Warnock can now work with the squad knowing about the commitment of his players to the end of season.
