Josh Walker Makes Speedy Recovery

Gareth Southgate is unlikely to bring in any permanent players before the transfer window closes. Josh Walker returns to the Boro squad for the Blackburn game.

Josh Walker is in the squad for the Blackburn game after an ankle ligament injury.

Walker was expected to be out for 6 to 8 weeks, but has made a speedy recovery in 10 days and is named in the Boro squad for the home fixture against Blackburn.

"Josh trained with the team on Thursday and today so it shows the attitude of the lad," said Southgate.

"He could have been another ten days but he was so desperate to get back he's put hours and hours in to get himself fit. We need that kind of attitude at the moment."

With rumours about James Harper and Nicky Shorey joining Boro, Southgate said "It's unlikely we will do anything else permanent between now and Monday."

"There are so many hurdles to cross when you're trying to buy a player. It was always in my mind that if we can sign someone then great, but it was just as important to keep the players we've got.

"I don't see the point of going and signing players for the sake of it. I get all sorts of weird and wonderful messages this time to year - buy one get one free, take one on loan or pay in monthly instalments.

That's not how we do our business now. If there's a target we've watched and trailed who we think can improve our squad then we'll do it.
