Juninho backs Mowbray

Middlesbrough legend Juninho has said that he believes Tony Mowbray is the right man for the job at the Riverside Stadium and that the current manager will get Boro back into the Premier League.

2013 has been a year to forget for Mowbray’s men as they have gone from being genuine promotion candidates to mid-table in the Championship. The Brazilian thinks that sometimes, things just don’t work out in football and stated that the boss should get the backing from everyone on Teesside.

“Tony has been doing a great job here,” said Juninho.

“Like the supporters, he’s upset that the team isn’t playing like it did before Christmas and missed out on the play-offs. But that’s football, it doesn’t always go to plan. For example, my club Ituano was almost relegated this season back home in Brazil.

“Middlesbrough will get back into the Premier League, I’m sure it will happen soon.

“It’s only a matter of time but I hope it happens next year. It will be good for the club, it will be good for Tony.”

The performances from Boro this year have been pretty shocking, but now is not the time to panic as this squad has shown they can be one of the best teams in the league.

Although you can’t make excuses, Mowbray has been hit with a lot of injuries this campaign and if he is able to add some more numbers to his squad in the summer, there is no doubt the club can make it back to the big time.

Juninho clearly rates Mowbray highly and you don’t impress someone of his quality unless you’re doing the right things.

So, there isn’t a need for change just yet and after ten games or so next season is when it is the time to asses if the club is heading in the right direction.
