Middlesbrough Brace for Crystal Palace's Interest in Hackney and van den Berg

Middlesbrough are facing potential transfer interest from Crystal Palace in Hayden Hackney and Rav van den Berg, with a combined valuation of £27 million.

Middlesbrough are bracing themselves for potential interest from Premier League side Crystal Palace, who are reportedly keen on acquiring Hayden Hackney and Rav van den Berg. A report from The Sun suggests that the combined valuation for the duo could reach £27 million, a figure that may raise concerns among Boro supporters regarding the future of their rising stars.

Hayden Hackney, 23, has established himself as a pivotal figure for Middlesbrough, particularly following his instrumental role in helping England’s Under-21 team secure the European Championship title. His performances have attracted attention from several top-flight clubs, including Tottenham, Liverpool, and Manchester United, all of whom have been monitoring his progress closely over the past year. Notably, Porto had a £9 million offer rejected last January, highlighting Middlesbrough's determination to retain their key asset.

The young midfielder demonstrated his capabilities against elite opposition during last season's cup fixtures against Chelsea and Aston Villa. As he continues to develop, Rob Edwards, Boro's new manager, will be eager to keep Hackney, recognising the significant impact his departure could have on the club's ambitions.

Rav van den Berg, 20, has also caught the eye following his impressive performances for the Netherlands in the Under-21 European Championship. The central defender, who joined Middlesbrough amid competition from several prominent European clubs, is viewed as an integral part of Edwards' plans. The Sun estimates van den Berg’s market value at around £12 million.

With both players contracted until 2027, Middlesbrough are in a strong position for any negotiations. However, the club's financial landscape could shift dramatically if a compelling offer materialises. Edwards faces the dual challenge of enhancing his squad while potentially capitalising on high-value players to facilitate new signings.

The recent sales of Emmanuel Latte Lath and Josh Coburn have already provided Middlesbrough with a financial boost. Nonetheless, fans may feel that a combined offer of £27 million for their top talents falls short of expectations. Given Hackney's previous valuation of £25 million and the recent £31 million transfer of Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund, supporters might justifiably express frustration if the club were to accept such an offer.
