Middlesbrough FC Eye David Strelec as Summer Transfer Window Approaches
Middlesbrough FC are set to reignite their pursuit of David Strelec, the Slovak forward from Slovan Bratislava, as they seek a new striker ahead of the summer transfer window.
Middlesbrough FC are poised to reignite their interest in David Strelec, the forward currently plying his trade at Slovan Bratislava, as the summer transfer window approaches. Recent reports suggest that the Slovak international could be available at a more attractive price, making him a target for the Championship side. The 24-year-old striker has emerged as a priority for Middlesbrough's recruitment team, particularly following the departure of Emmanuel Latte Lath to Atlanta United earlier this year.
Initially, Middlesbrough appeared keen to bring Strelec to Teesside but ultimately opted for a loan deal involving Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla. Unfortunately, Iheanacho's impact was underwhelming, with just one goal in 15 appearances. This disappointing return has prompted the club to re-enter the transfer market in search of a reliable centre-forward, and Strelec's renewed availability could provide the solution they need.
Ivan Kmotrik, CEO of Slovan Bratislava, recently hinted at the possibility of a deal for Strelec, stating, "We took a risk with David. In the summer, maybe a slightly lower offer will come, it can happen." Kmotrik elaborated on previous interest, revealing that while significant bids were received in January, the club was reluctant to part ways with Strelec at that time.
He noted, "The really interesting ones came at the last minute," believed to include a bid from Middlesbrough and a £7 million offer from Celtic, both of which were turned down as Slovan held out for an estimated £10 million.
Celtic are expected to renew their interest in Strelec this summer, seeking a replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi, which could force Middlesbrough to act swiftly if they wish to secure the forward. Kmotrik’s comments suggest that while the potential transfer fee may be lower than in January, Slovan Bratislava remains open to negotiations. "Today, I can’t rule out whether he will stay or leave. There is still interest in him," he added.

Strelec has enjoyed a good season, netting 22 goals across all competitions, including a hat-trick on the day Slovan clinched the Slovakian league title. His impressive performances have solidified his reputation as a key player for the club and highlighted his potential value.
