Mowbray praises excellent start

Tony Mowbray has praised his players for what has been an excellent start to the new season.

Middlesbrough are unbeaten after four games of the Championship campaign with three victories and a draw to date.

They even secured a win at Peterborough in the Carling Cup last time out so spirits are understandably high at the moment.

Referring to how well his players have started the latest promotion bid, Mowbray said: “All the credit goes to the players, their work ethic and commitment, their application to the job.”

“I don’t think there’s been a game where I could question their attitude to what we’ve asked them to do.”

“Take last night’s match (against Peterborough), it was difficult circumstances going to a team who scored seven at the weekend, and to suppress them as much as we did in the first half was very, very pleasing.

“And the work ethic was evident for everybody to see, the way we closed them down and pressed them was fantastic.

“We’d like to keep that going.”

Mowbray’s ambition to keep this run going will be tested against Coventry City this weekend.

Middlesbrough host the Sky Blues looking to make it six games unbeaten at the start of the 2011/2012 campaign.

The home side are certainly favourites to pick up three points as Coventry’s start is in high contrast to Mowbray’s men. They have only picked up one point so far and sit in 23rd position.

Middlesbrough will just be concentrating on themselves this weekend though as Bet365 Free Bets on their promotion increase with every game that goes by.

They were much fancied by those placing Bookmakers Free Bets for a top two finish and at the moment this is proving a realistic possibility. They will look to move into the automatic promotion places with a victory on Saturday.
