Neil Warnock confirms Martin Payero edging closer to Boro move
Middlesbrough could have finally landed the signing of Club Atletico Banfield's 22-year-old midfielder.
Boro boss Neil Warnock has confirmed that Argentina starlet MartÃn Payero has completed his Boro medical ahead of completing a move to the Riverside Stadium.
It's been a while since Middlesbrough were linked to making a move for the Atletico Banfield midfielder, but it seems the deal is all but done, with the final financial details needed to be confirmed before his signing.
Warnock said after the club's 3-0 friendly win over Bishop Auckland that "there's not a lot to say other than he has passed his medical."
"It's just a matter of watching him play some games."
"I don't think all the financial details are finalised yet, but as much as we can say."
"I had a good chat with the lad, and he was looking forward to it. Nice lad, and I think he's looking to build a platform for the next few years," Warnock said.
"He can play 8 and 10. He makes some good runs when he's further forward. He very rarely gives the ball away; good on set pieces."
"He can chip in with goals as well. Whether he can start straight away with the Championship, we'll have to see."
"I'm hoping he regularly plays in the Olympics, so if he does, fitness won't be a problem."
The 22-year-old will represent Argentina at the upcoming Olympics and will be expected to join Boro after that.

Boro fans can be assured that Payero will be a Middlesbrough player next season as long as the club can get him a work permit, and they can settle any possible issues with finances.
