Neil Warnock set to sign Duncan Watmore following successful trial
Neil Warnock is interested in signing Duncan Watmore after the former Sunderland forward impressed on trial at Boro.
The 26-year-old has spent the last fortnight at Rockliffe, training with the first team squad after he was released by Sunderland in the summer.
Boro had been linked with a move for Watmore in June, following his release from Sunderland and had been set to join the Boro squad for a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United.
Warnock has been impressed by the former England Under-21 international performances and attitude to work and is keen on signing him. However, Warnock is waiting for the go ahead, revealing he's unsure whether he can make additions at this stage.
"He's done ever so well, I'm pleased for him," said Warnock.
"I'm not sure what we can do regarding signings but he wanted to get fit and it's been a good opportunity for him."
"He's done really well. It's still ongoing, I don't know whether we can make a signing. I would like him."
Watmore joined his former club, Sunderland, as a 19-year-old from non-league side Altrincham, establishing himself as a Premier League regular and an Under-21 international.
But his progression was cut short by two serious knee injuries that sidelined him for more than two years as Sunderland plummeted from the Premier League to League One.
