TOUGH LEAGUE CUP TRIP TO LONDON ROAD

Middlesbrough face a tough trip to Peterborough United in the League Cup on Wednesday night, in a meeting of the two Boro’s.{nl}{nl}The London Road based side have been in impressive form since their return to the Championship, including an emphatic 7-1 win over Ipswich at the weekend.

And of late their home form has been particularly pleasing, remaining unbeaten in their last 20 home games.

But Middlesbrough have a good record against their League Cup opponents, winning six of the 13 meetings between the sides.

Posh have only managed two wins against Boro, in all, but will be looking to beat their visitors for the third time in seven home meetings.

The last time the two sides met was back in 2010, during Peterborough’s last season in the Championship.

That was at the Riverside Stadium, with Middlesbrough coming out 1-0 winners, as Barry Robson scored his first goal for the club.

When they met at London Road, however, the score finished 2-2 as Dave Kitson scored twice.
Peterborough knocked out Stevenage in the last round, coming out as 4-3 winners in an entertaining encounter.

Boro progressed, thanks to a Marvin Emnes hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Walsall in the first round.

Faris Haroun impressed in Boro’s last game, marking his debut with a goal against Birmingham, and is expected to feature.

Scott McDonald will miss out with a hamstring injury, while Justin Hoyte has a thigh problem and is unlikely to be risked.

Lee Tomlin must have had his new boots on in Saturday’s game with Ipswich, scoring an impressive hat-trick, and will be hoping to do the same to Boro.

But Posh are still without Gabriel Zakuani, Nicky Ajose, Dave Hibbert and goalkeeper Joe Lewis.
Meanwhile, Boro youngster Cameron Park has joined fellow Championship side Barnsley on loan.
