Woodgate reveals latest on Djed Spence future

Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate has addressed rumours regarding a potential exit for wingback Djed Spence.

Djed Spence was once agan impressive in Boro's 2-2 draw at home to Derby County.

The 21-year-old put in a shift and effectively shut down Wayne Rooney from making an impact on the game from the right side of defence.

Woodgate was impressed with the youngster and spoke of his admiration for the work he put in.

"It's not just when it's Wayne Rooney, it's when it's any player."

When quizzed about Tottenham's interest in Djed Spence, Woodgate admitted that most of his players have been linked with different clubs. He also continued by claiming that all were speculation with no truth in the news.

"Agents can be up to different things. Marvin Johnson was linked to Bournemouth the other week, Britt's been linked with Villa, Darren's been linked with West Ham, Ayala's been linked with a few teams. It's all speculation."

Woodgate also continued that the club were in negotiations with Spence as they look to finalise a new contract.

Spence is seen as one of the best youngsters at the club and was given his debut by Woodgate this season.

Spence is expected to start in the FA Cup replay at Tottenham on Tuesday, having impressed in the first game at the Riverside Stadium.
