    • no doubt they are getting the chequebook ready, thats the main risk with the parachute clubs even if they off pace, and we seen plenty of times from our own experience under carrick you can go from the worst positions in the league (or from having the season wrote off) and ending up making a push for the previously impossible, even in his first half season at one point we were thinking - can we over take sheffield united here? granted we needed to win again and again and them lose the plot to do it, but a strong run moves you up this league quickly as most teams drop points on a regular basis
    • I don't think we take much of a hit in the summer from the Ipswich offer at all. That works out going on the cheap when no one is interested and competing, but if 10-15m starts to float about and a few clubs get involved it won't take long before its north of 20m again.  We saw similar with Akpom, who due to the contract situation could have potentially left for maybe half of what we got for him but there was competition to sign him, so we got a nice fee for him that must have been close of what to expect with his age if he had say 2 years left on his deal.  HH has age on his side, so anyone who might be paying a bit of a championship premium to get him, still have opportunity to recover that money and potentially profit from it too  sounds like a good idea, but most transfers don't work that. everyone knows after turning down someone's last offer to buy or last chance from the seller, that further offers will normally still be considered, especially if you come close or meet their demands. You could visibly see the club try to do this in the last week of the transfer window in the summer. We announced that it was now too late for anyone to buy him (as I imagine we told him a deal needed to be done by then so we had scope to sign someone to replace him) via the local press. Which had an immediate response to them reports in the locals was leaks in the nationals that he was still open to a move to the premier league, which no doubt came from his agent to tell Prem clubs to come and get him if they want him. Where these demands fall down is when the player is trying to force the move, if they are then you either force them to stay and risk their productivity falling off a cliff, or take best offer you can get for them.  If you actually try to cut off contact with other clubs buying them, they will just go public to get the player to knock on Scotts door and ask what is going on.
    • If true! Read it earlier but could be old news.....
    • Normally, given Boro's history down in "Brizzle" I would be approaching this game with real trepidation. We know they are having a decent season, but we have also beaten Hull and QPR recently, in fairly convincing fashion - both teams also enjoying good runs at the moment. So, for once, I fancy our chances of getting something. Don't expect it to be easy, of course. Its a long away day for Boro and the Robins will no doubt be wanting to prove a point. But I'm hoping, now that Hellberg has had some quality time with the squad, a chance to assess the lads and impart his own ideas to them, that he'll have a game plan to deal with whatever the home side throws at us. A full week to rest & prepare should also help. Prediction: Bristol City 1 - 2 Middlesbrough DZ gets to do at least one more MTD and song. If this keeps up much longer he'll be able to release a full album! 😁
    • If we win at Ashton Gate, then I'll start to fully believe!  Sounds like Bristol City like basketball games... Could suit us.
