in reality they probs have had relevant offers on the table or being discussed much earlier this season I think, I think its just carricks way of not getting into talking about peoples contracts until they make announcements on them, or they leave. you would of thought they would of spoken anytime from the start of season if not mid last season (for those out of contract in summer they want to keep) to at least jan (for those entering the last year in the summer) mcnair probs been sat on an offer all season, maybe even part of last season, but he probs wants to see what comes out in the wash in the summer before he decides.  he may get a better deal doing it this way too from us if he decides to sign when he is almost no longer on the books. but I do feel like he knocked back a contract in the summer and that's when we started leaks that clubs (like leeds and abroad) were interested in him to try recoup some money in a sale before he leaves on a free potentially, but I reckon he told the club he wouldn't be sold so the rumours fizzled out fast. I think had he been up for a sale then someone would of been in for him with a cash offer as it wouldn't of took much for us to sell him. but he's done enough I reckon to keep his wage (or even improve it) and get a decent amount of years somewhere else on a free if he happy to move out the area, that I think is the biggest factor that means he will be gone - along with the fact he has opted to run his contract out when we know the club would probably always rather sell them than get nothing after another year of service.

I think it'll just be an error on the writer's part, but I'm expecting McNair to move on anyway.

Something picked up on in the announcement. A Freudian slip or an oversight on McNair's part? "The 24-year-old extends his stay on Teesside until 2027 and, after Dael Fry and Jonny Howson, he is the club’s longest serving senior player currently in the dressing room." McNair would be ahead of Jones having joined the year prior. And it surely isn't related to injuries as Fry is also out. Seems strange to mention it and not to check. Not that it will come as much of a surprise to anyone that McNair is leaving. And given the contracts have started being handed out, it perhaps alludes to the club switching focus to next season already. Sure Carrick has said in the past that they wouldn't worry about them until the summer.

Club taking character into account along with ability as they believe that harmony in squad very important so if they think someone could be a disruptive force, they will avoid. You can be certain that Dieng will have been asked about Willock and Chair and the fact that they are still with QPR tells you other clubs have reservations. European signings viewed as mostly successful so we can take it for a fact that we will be in the market if the right people are available
