  1. I don’t care about Woodgate’s private life to be honest. I care about Middlesbrough as a football club and I feel that appointing Woodgate would be another massive mistake. I am going to keep away from character in this assessment as I do not know him personally. But what I would say is that he does not strike me as the intelligent, professional person you would like to have managing your club. But as I said, that opinion could be completely wrong. On a purely footballing basis, he has absolutely no managerial experience. The coaching experience and much of the playin

  2. I really don't get the Woodgate hate from people. I realise he was part of the coaching set up under Pulis, well all the ones Pulis brought into the club have left. He played for some of the biggest teams in Europe Real Madrid, Spurs, Leeds(hell of a team when he was there) and was known as a footballing defender always oozed class and looked for a pass as opposed to hoofing it. Would have played far more for England if it wasn't for injuries. So many people saying they don't want him to be manager yet they would accept other unproven managers without any issue, complete hypocrisy i

  3. I wish everyone would stop using the rumoured information as a reason to get really annoyed and as a stick to beat Gibson with. While I appreciate the info that gets passed on here, no one is right 100% of the time, far from it. So just take the info on board and wait and see what ACTUALLY happens.

  4. I humbly disagree with your view on his Football acumen. He has never been given the chance to prove himself so we can speculate on how he would get on till the cows come home. I have never met nor had the pleasure of interacting with the bloke personally so I'll save my opinion until that happens. On the football side of things, Ideally to quell the doubts I'd have him manage the U-23s and have SJ as manager, and after a few good seasons when SJ gets picked up for a JoB/Payoff at Chelsea, we'd have an organic transition of our youth coach to head coach and help bed in the prospects from

  6. Before he came back to Boro Woodgate was working for Klopp at Liverpool scouting. He’s played for some top teams and from his Insta seems to have friends from wherever he has played. That says he manages to convince plenty of people and clubs that he is an OK kind of guy to have around and represent their club. A few years ago Stevie G was caught on CCTV lamping a fella in a bar who looked at his pint the wrong way. And yet plenty of Boro fans and others think he is a saint. I would suggest folk know more about Woodgate and as such think they know him better. I personally know w

  9. It's not hate for the man. It's not wanting the risk of an entirely untested manager, with limited experience of coaching. We've had a couple of years of awful football. Is it really surprising that many would prefer a manager with 2 promotions to his name, who plays decent football, over the unknown quantity that is Woodgate?

  10. It’s crazy how so many of you know Woodgate’s personal life ... or think you do.. maybe it’s time to take a break.

  12. How many wIfe's/siblings/? did he mess with to get this much hate....... Damn always thought I watched football to get away from the dreads of real life crap..maybe I'm old fashioned but I guess progressively we can hope our next manager has a noble peace prize to his name or we can just employ the local vicar (without a record) or the Top Top bloke from London (a Humanitarian compared to JW ) or we can just get another long ball merchant so we can all go back to moaning about the football...... When personal life is used to measure the Professional worth we tend to miss the p

  13. I wasn't having a dig at you it was just a broad comment aimed at the whole forum. DZ seems to get a lot of stick on here but then you see other people getting hero worshipped for sharing similar information. And when it's all said and done even the ITK gurus on here tend to be wrong the majority of the time.

  16. Frankly I am just depressed reading this thread now. After the divisive appointment of Tony Pulis my only hope was that the list of candidates would bring the fan base together and we could all move on. Sadly somewhere near the top of that list we have Woodgate,, who even just with his name in the ring, is already splitting opinion, and for that reason alone I hope he does not get the job. One other divisive figure touted around was Terry, but I have reason to believe that he is not in the frame, never was, and he is looking forward to another season under Dean Smith before moving into sole m

  17. He's never managed a football club before, he was also part of the coaching team that was such a *** disaster this season. Enough of a reason for you?

  18. For me it's simple. Jokanovic is ambitious, shows we still want to get out of the league, won 2 promotions, guaranteed attacking football and is the most popular choice by far. I would instantly renew my season ticket. I didn't renew last year because of Pulis. Woodgate, cheap option, lack of ambition and another jobs for boys. Has already got a massive split in opinion and he hasn't even been appointed yet. So negativity is there straight away. We have had 18 months of dross under Pulis and I want a fresh start someone new in the hotseat. Yes maybe Woodgate will play attacking foo

  19. At the end of the day we all have different morals, standards and we all have different views about what type of person we want in charge of the football club. Taking out personal opinions of the man, I don't think he has the brains to be a good football manager either and I think he'll be a complete disaster. If Gibson thinks a Woodgate appointment will unite the fans he's wrong, just read the message boards and social media.

  20. Colin Cheng cant even manage his current staff that well, almost all of them smoke whilst tossing bean sprouts in your noodles and simmer your Szechuan Chicken, and I'm ITK in this instance.

  21. @RonBoro- It's not just getting 11 guys to kick a ball around though, is it? It's man management, levels of discipline, dealing with the psychology of the job and of your players, it's being a role model to the young players coming through both on and off the pitch, it's uniting those players to create a desire to work hard for one another, create a never-say-die attitude and want to win for one another. That's what separates the top managers from the rest. Look at the successes of managers like Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche - Jürgen Klopp at the top end of things. They all unite their squads. F

  22. It's because people in the area know Woodgate, know people who know Woodgate or know things about his reputation which make them consider him unfit to be the manager of our football club. Local lad or not. You can say what you like about his career, it makes no difference. Man Management and character are equally important in a football manager, and Woodgate isn't fit for either of those purposes.

  23. I do think that in general we resort to giving pelters to our own lot quicker than other players. We use their loyalty to the club as a stick to beat them over the head with (downing) and then advocate for players like Braithwaite who have shown none. Think it goes back to something Ben Gibson said that he had to out work everyone else around him just to prove that he was there on merit and not because of his family name.

  25. as we are in pre-season and there is no sign of a new manager being announced and tbh I am getting sick of the woodgate debate, I thought we could get a game of questions going just to keep people entertained while they are bored at work. Rules: you can only ask yes/no questions, the answer must be someone who has played/managed Middlesbrough. the game is usually 20 questions but with this being a forum it can be unlimited questions (preferably no more than 3 questions per post) whoever gets the right answer first, starts a new game. So i'll go first if any

  27. For what my opinion is worth, it wouldn't totally surprise me to see a totally left field candidate come out of nowhere a la Karanka, and take over. I think sadly some people think the names mentioned in the media and on the betting odds are the only names Gibbo is looking at, and if Kenyon has been involved it wouldn't surprise me to see someone dramatic come in. I wouldn't be totally depressed with Woody, just a little bit let down that we looked to a guy who took part in one of the most divisive management teams to hit the Riverside. P.s thanks for the warm welcome

  28. It’s annoying when you think of the manager we could have had with the 2017 money, monks wage and pay off and pulis wage. Didn’t someone say that in 2017 jokanovic was close but Gibson didn’t want to pay his wage. Wonder how much better off we’d be now if we’d got him instead of monk and some waster player in 2017.

  29. Again all the talk is about Jokanovic being too expensive and Woody being the cheap option. It feels like there's only 2 available managers the way everyone is talking, hopefully Gibson is looking a bit wider than just too men.

  34. Could we not do something different this time around instead of jumping to the wrong decision? Maybe approaching someone like Wenger asking how much it would take to get him to come and do some consultancy/temp manager for 4/5 months while training another coach who will take over from him once he’s learnt under him.

  35. Also ‘he’s better than we’ve got’ isn’t really a good argument when we have zero wide players, I mean it says far more about our squad than it does him as a player. The question should be is he the best option? Not for me.

  36. Between Karanka and Woodgate it would have to be Karanka. Still crossing my fingers that Jokanovic will take it. However it’s a long time since his supposed interview and it’s unfortunately starting to look unlikely.

  40. Why would we want to resign someone who is going to be 32 this year and who we sold a couple of years ago? If we did sign him we'd be looking to replace him within a year or two. Is there a reason why people can't move on from the past? Previous players, previous managers, just seems weird to me.

  41. https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-jokanovics-west-brom-job-demands-revealed Jokanovic’s demands were £2m a year for the WBA job. I can’t imagine him nearly doubling his demands despite being out of work for 3 months since then.

  43. I just can't see how Woodgate is the right appointment at this moment, especially after the horrendous decisions the club have made since promotion with Karanka. Feel like we need someone to show the fans there is still some ambition, to give the club a lift, with championship experience who can get the team playing, under a budget and has a knowledge of what it takes to mount a promotion challenge. Not a novice with a couple of years coaching experience. It would be a very dangerous appointment if it doesn't work and could send us the opposite way. Robson and McLaren were good appointmen

  44. I think Woodgate has plenty of contacts. He’s played for lots of teams under a lot of coaches with a lot of top players. He just likes living close to home. If he lived in Madrid we’d probably look at him differently. From what I can gather there are loads of haters who like to suggest he’s a wrong un. But what has he actually done?
    1 point
  45. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasnt woodgate only actually gotten to trouble once, back in 2001? Yes it was terrible but he was a kid then. There are lots of rumours and hearsay beyond that, but personally I dont judge a person without knowing all the facts - and there doesnt appear to be very many of those involved here. "Hanging out with wrong uns" a conviction does not make. I dont believe hes the right man for the job because I dont think he has the experience or the contacts and hasnt worked in a coaching role under a strong enough, experienced, progressive manager. But h

  46. We are Boro!!!!!!!! besides the disasters of Strachan and Pulis we have always appointed managers with no previous experience, and it didnt work out too badly for an un fashionable little club in the Northeast. Correct me if I am wrong, JW was at Boro way before Pulisball shacked up, and if I read my news correctly everyone that was apart of Pulis's backroom staff have been let go, even CF left cause Pulis brought him in. We are still trying to tie the JW we think we know from gossip of his personal life to the JW Football Manager who coaches and wants to represent his boy hood

  48. Woodgate has been mates with local low-life scum for many years now, and still associates with them to this day. They say your reputation shouldn't procede you, but in his case it just does.

  49. I think I've lost interest now. I personally don't know anything about woodgate but I imagine if he is given the job and it doesnt go the way we hope, then the criticism will be aimed at Gibson instead. I really hope that we give the job to an exciting manager, one who has proven pedigree of getting teams promoted. We are not a bad team, just need a decent manager in to make the most of them.

It was also largely because Warnock understandably kept getting short term contracts. Last 8 games, then a 1 year deal, then another 1 year deal. The last one to have a contract extended that wasn't about to run out was Karanka in 2015.

Does anyone know if Fin Cartwright has been injured over the last few months? Law McCabe has made the bench quite a bit but not really seen Fin there. Wouldn’t mind taking a look at him at some point before the end of the season - maybe an incentive for him to sign on if he really is the real deal.
