He is under 20’s manager at one of the biggest teams in Brazil, they consistently qualify for the South American version of the Champions League, they play in a 78,000 capacity stadium, they are a bigger team than Ajax, yet people were happy to have the Ajax youth manager as manager!7 points

So then which member is going to reveal themselves as a reporter for the Gazette.....5 points

Agree on every word Billy. Get a youth team manager from a huge club in South America to join as AM is fairly decent. If it was a no name youth team manager from Sao Paolo, Boca Juniors, Velez Sarsfield or whatever a lot would probably say it's a bold and inventive move by the club. Now it's just jobs for the boys, chuckle brother and whatnot just because he has experience from here earlier. So what? It'll just help him settle in and it's a completely new backroom set-up. He even has years of experience of being an actual AM. He also strikes me as the kind of guy who will actually tell the man5 points

People tripping over themselves to crap on the club. Embarrassing. Why would the club pass up an opportunity to hire a coach who has experience of being an assistant manager, has worked at some big clubs, is passionate about the club and extremely well liked by the majority of the fanbase? Just because hes a character on the touchline doesn't mean he isnt good at his job. But nooo, its all jObS FoR tHe BoYs!!!!!1!!!5 points

If Aitor Karanka is appointed manager of Middlesbrough Football Club this week I will cry genuine tears of joy.4 points

I think people prefer complete unknowns because it's more exotic and exciting. I for one am happy for Leo to be back!4 points

I can’t wait!!! The amount of passion and knowledge of the area means it can’t fail!! if we get Robbie Keane aswell our priority has to be to get him clued up so he ‘knows the area’ as much as possible before the season kicks off, final piece of the jigsaw! Seriously when was the last time we had this much passion, energy and most importantly knowledge of the area in one coaching set up!!!??? UTFB3 points

I suppose I should make a serious post then seeing as I'm losing my touch. Appointing Percovich, if we do, smacks of a PR move so you could say that at least Bevington is earning his money. I think most people have a relatively high opinion of him but that's less to do with any coaching/management ability and more about how he's perceived as a person. All of this, including the amount of time it's taken, makes me think it was even more likely that Gibson's first choice was Pulis, whether that was as a straight up manager or as some kind of Director of Football. I don't believe that Per3 points

I never really rated Leo before and thought he was just a glorified cheerleader for Aitor but been looking at this again and the fact he has been managing at Fluminese , even at youth level , shows he is much more than this. It is pretty obvious that he appreciates the area , especially after his tragic loss , so he has probably stayed in touch with Gibbo. The fact he is prepared to swap the Maracana for the Riverside says lots to me. In hindsight I therefore quite like this idea of the youthful manager (Woody) with an experienced old head (Leo) alongside him. Hell he might even3 points

Ah well, I’ve come to terms with Woodgate as manager. I’ll get behind the man and hope other boro fans will too. I love Leo, and for all a Woodgate/Leo combo sounds like the kind of thing me and my mates would have joked about a couple years ago, I’ll get behind that too.3 points

To be honest when I read that Leo was coming back I felt a sense of calm. He was nothing but passionate when he was here last time around. Seemed to bleed Boro and that what we want. Feel better than if it was some utter random.3 points

Agreed. It's just people so hurt by the pulis era who just want to have any stick to beat the club with possible. Seem to be blinded with rage!3 points

I can't see AK coming back. Definitely not yet anyway. I couldn't see Leo working with him. It's Woodgate or we're getting someone that the club is picking their backroom staff. Was told earlier today Leo's going to be Woodgate's assistant.2 points

I'm not really that interested in football mate so I don't know. I haven't heard of most of those people.2 points

Leo Percovich in talks with Middlesbrough over joining new-look coaching team Uruguayan could make an emotional return to the Riverside and is due at Rockliffe Park for talks https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leo-percovich-talks-middlesbrough-over-164125962 points

The club are appointing a new manager, not electing a new Pope. There is no need for any smoke being blown anywhere sir.2 points

Good post SD. It’s high time people calm down and back the new manager (whoever it is) . If he is going to turn out as a bad appointment, well at least let him prove it first before hating on him and a ball not even kicked yet.....2 points

This is a weird argument to be having, they are both big teams. You have kind of totally missed my point. A couple of weeks ago many people were excited at the possibility of the Ajax youth coach joining us as Manager! Now the same people are up in arms at the prospect of the under 20’s coach at Flu (another large club with high expectations and some very good players) joining as Assistant Manager! What is your take on that?2 points

Mate, I've said consistently that hes not my choice but I will back him because we dont actually know how well he might do. If 6 months down the line he is a disaster, that's when I'll judge him, not before a ball has been kicked. You clearly hope that he will fail, that's what's embarrassing about your posts.2 points

So are you, you just sit at the other end of the continuum. Let's see how your messiah does next season and we'll see who's right.2 points

Wow, are some folk actually vexed at Leo coming back? What the hell do you want then? I'd be very interested given the fact we have no money (rumoured) who you want at the helm2 points

Why do you think it's not on merit? He has a decent cv and his bond with the boro fans is a massive bonus.2 points

Hard to handle the irony, moaning about moaning fans... To many of our ‘super fans’ confuse pointing out obvious short comings for ‘negativity’. imo boro fans did what they do best at home vs Brighton 2016.2 points

To be fair before his first injury I think he was in his best form for us (after a weird in and out start to the campaign), 4 goals and 2 assists in 7 games at one point. Then we didn't see him for about 3 months, he came back and wasn't playing badly, just not up to the standard earlier in the season. I don't think at any point this season He's been playing like someone who doesn't want to be here. -

I've no doubt they've got absolutely zero interest in protection the competition, or the lower leagues, but I've always hated replays so it doesn't bother me particularly. I know I'm an outlier with that, but I've never liked the financial argument as it always seem to be about keeling clubs afloat when they wouldn't be able to without it, which I don't think is healthy, and it certainly doesn't help smaller clubs in a sporting sense. I'm more annoyed about the FA Cup final continuing to be played before the end of the league season, that's really diminishing it. -

They've strengthened the format by removing replays. Yeah right. I suppose it's better than saying that the game in this country is run for the benefit of half a dozen clubs, who incidentally, would drop being part of football in this country in a microsecond if it suited them financially to do so - hence the clubs who were supporting the Super League not long ago, and still do support it whatever they might say publicly. -

Hednesford swapped to play their tie here rather than at home. -

If he's got issues off the pitch then it puts some of this season into a bit of perspective I'd say. I know his body language has been mentioned a few times. If he's having a rough time of it outside football then it stands to reason we wouldn't be seeing the best of him regardless of the injuries.
