  1. Saturday 17th August 2019 - 3pm KO - Ewood Park Preview: Both sides come into this fixture following home league cup fixtures against lower league opposition - Blackburn oversaw a battling Oldham side 3:2, whilst Boro only turned up for the last 15 minutes against Crewe and were knocked out on penalties. Blackburn have a host of familiar faces in their employment with Tony Mowbray has several ex-Boro players in his ranks including; Harry Chapman, Danny Graham, Richie Smallwood, Stewart Downing and Jayson Leutwiler. There is a decent 5 a-side team in there! Both sides have

  2. I think it's a bit shameful that we've had 3 games under a new manager and 2 of them have ended with boos.

  3. Blast from the past - 15th March 2006 The night we conquered Roma After last night's defeat to Crewe I thought I would post the total opposite of what it is to be a Boro fan, the highs, as well as the lows, we've seen it all Boro went to Roma for the 2nd leg of UEFA, holding a, slender one goal advantage courtesy of a Yakubu 12th minute penalty, will one goal be enough in the Stadio Olimpico & see Boro in the Quarter finals The game was hectic, Boro done the unthinkable & took the lead on 32 minutes through a JFH powerful header & 2-0 on the night, with away go

  4. You are a little negative Nelly aren't you! The team that played last night was full of youngsters and our backups. Let's give the first team 10-15 games before we started getting concerned. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that! I figure you watched the league games? Do you not think there were a number of positives in the performances even if the results weren't there? One bad game isn't going to derail the entire season, keep the faith!

  5. I bet you a slap in the belly with a wet fish they will be. I know who was getting booed and you do, my question is did the kids? and if they took it that way imagine how they feel now. Sorry. I just detest booing - all these great fans we are supposed to have, the position we are in and the fact they knew it was a scratch side, one that has never played together and they boo - well done.

  6. Longer than 3 games into a new manager's tenure, I'll tell you that much.

  7. Of course it is. We have basically added 3 league one players to a one dimensional squad. We have seen some attacking play, enthusiasm and naivety and are not getting results. Last season we played a team at the same stage that were ultimately relegated from league 2 and we got through on penalties. This time we lost. It is going to be an up and down season where hopefully the playing style will bed in and we can look forward to more consistency next season.

  8. I respectfully disagree with some of this. This is why football is so debated and unique, it is a game saturated with different opinions, and I love it! I do agree that Clayton hasn't been bad this season, but I don't think he has been particularly good either. In fact I think he has been good at the pressing element of our game, thinking back to our 2nd goal vs Luton. But the holding element of his role I don't think he is current doing well and in my opinion I don't think he has ever been particularly good at it. His best football was in Karanka's double pivot system with Leadbitter, wh

  9. Yeah I've watched the first two games and I'd certainly not identify clayton as a weakness. Once again its the ability to create clear cut chances that's killing us (and our questionable defensive shape) but I think hes done okay as an individual and certainly dont see anyone else who would perform any better than him at that role in the squad.

  10. But he has been the best player on the pitch for large stretches when hes allowed to run and press high. I'm not sure I want to lose that having him sit deeper.

  11. The 11 should've been more than capable of beating Crewe. The players lacked application and focus from the start, listening to Woody's interview I don't think that was down to him as he was raging. The players have to be held accountable. Supposedly Tav thinks he's the next big thing.. Browne wants to be starting.. lets *** see it then. I'd take Gestede out of all consideration. Just send him home and tell him to not bother coming back, what's the point? The positives: Fletcher, McNair, George looks fit to replace Shotton.

  12. One thing I will say is that the midfielders are non existent at times. I’ve lost count how many times Clayton receives the ball and looks up to the 2 attacking midfielders stood completely still and blocked by defenders, not even attempting to make any angles for him. Looking at this you’d think they were being told to go direct and for the midfielders to stay very high for knockdowns off the strikers. Clayton hasn’t been great but I do feel for him with this, so obvious to see.

I wanna see high pressure at the right times with the right amount of players, NOT kamikaze.. Cause Dack and Co Will punish that Hard... Same team as Brentford bar Friend for Shotton

  15. 100% this. I was at the game and constantly all game you would have Friend or Clayton trying to bring the ball out of defense with all our players stood in a line right at the top of the pitch it was so clear to see. They put men in midfield and we resorted to constant long balls that we didn't win. When either of the FB showed themselves, we opted to go inside and again more often than not chose a long ball. It was far to easy for them but I just couldn't understand why they weren't being told.

  18. I'm not sure Woodgate knew what he was doing with the formation tbh. At one point in the first half we had the two full backs and the three forward players literally in a line at the top of the pitch. Tav and Sav were stood together just behind them. George had the ball in his own half. Clayton just behind him. Where does he pass? The midfield was none existent. In the second half it was much the same, five players in a straight line up front. Luckily, McNair was the one dropping deep, someone with actual quality. It's an incredibly dangerous game though. McNair makes a bad pass, that's five p

  19. Not massively arsed about last night really, it just proves that our squad is thin as we thought it was and that players like Saville and Gestede aren’t good enough to play regular roles this year. I can see that Britt is going to be the boo boy for this year, and think some have subconsciously got a bit of Pulis brainwashing affecting them. Yes his penalty was gash, but I put it down to a lack of confidence, not attitude. What’s not going to help with his lack of confidence is bellends booing from the stand, so be good to get behind him and enjoy him banging in 20 goals for the lads this

  20. It IS an attitude problem .. When you blast a THIRD penna over .. He shouldn't try to place it in the top of the goal .. He looks incredibly stupid now, after 3 times in a row... Shoot it down and low in one of the sides... If the goalie saves it, then fair enough.. But blasting 3 over the bar is unacceptable!

  21. My take on SG is I don't necessarily think he's running the club badly in the sense that he's continually supported the club off his own back and kept us competitive where a lot of owners recently have just pulled out. I do however think that he's stuck in the past he's done very little to change how we've been ran other than sign a bigger cheque each season. Changing the philosophy of the club to play attractive attacking football whilst signing young players we can develop and sell on is probably the holygrail in terms of a philosophy that numerous clubs have already been attempting. 22. Merson struggled partly because he was living with Gazza, which was quite possibly the worst idea in the world. I mean honestly, who at the club thought that was a good idea?

  23. That’s why nothing will ever change at this club, fans will sit back while the owner makes mistake after mistake and won’t ever be challenged because of what he did 30 years ago

  24. Regardless of what mistakes Gibson has made and he's made quite a few, the fans would vote overwhelmingly to keep Gibbo at the helm. What Steve Gibson has done for this football club is nothing short of miraculous , since being in charge the positives far outweigh the negatives, as a fan/supporter grateful doesn't cut it in my eyes.

  25. The Club's nett value is -£57m. Nobody would pay Gibson O'Neill money to own a club with far less than zero value. In the Championship without Parachute Payments the Club can't compete and cover the wage bill, so losses will continue. These losses need to be guaranteed. External finance is not an option, so Gibson O'Neill have no option but to further cover these losses (as Undertakings to Group in the Accounts) Gibson has only ever actually put a total of £64m in to the Club. £1m up until 2012, then £50m in 2012. This was his biggest ever financial commitment and had to be done give

  27. So we've gone from a low block man mark press in the final third to a high block madness press designed to engineer counters high up the pitch. The problem is these are similar to a point both methods put no emphasis on ball possession or retention so off the bat every week we are giving opposition greenlight to have 50%+ possession by design so when we get it wrong, like with Pulis' methods, it will look awful. Our in possession build up plan seems to be split the central midfielders wide to create passing triangles with fullback and winger but when that goes wrong because he's set our m

  28. The fact we are actually having shots and shots on target is already a huge step forward tbh. Think we have had about 18 sog per game and 8-9 on target. I think that's a good start. I also think our play with the ball has been much better in spurts, I've seen us play some great little one touch triangular passing moves. The issue is doing it more consistently because so far we often get away from that back into aimless punting upfield and long channel balls. I think this is where we just differ though, I get the feeling you're just a more pessimistic person in general lol.

  30. The general feeling I get is that nobody is really expecting a win. I think Blackburn are a good enough team to beat us when we ourselves are still trying to forge our new identity.

  31. I'm not blaming Britt for the defeat or the current predicament the club is in! I think it's a reasonable discussion to have when our 15m pound striker can't hit the target with 3 penalties in a row. I don't believe he meant to miss on purpose but you've got to ask yourself has he been practicing penalties, especially seen as though the manager designated him as our penalty taker. I do question his decision making under pressure when he's going for the top corner again after missing his last 2 over the bar. I'm not gonna say anymore about it anyway because like you say t

  32. Lets hope the kids we had on think that too - imagine making your boro debut as a kid and you get booed by a bunch of arseholes - the same arseholes who will be singing "Stevie Gibson is king" some time soon too.

  33. He was better than Shotton has been, so in my mind yes, he should be in as long as he came through last night unscathed (as he seemed to). He wasn't that good but then he wouldn't have to be to play better than Shotton has played so far this season. Pick anyone you like anyway, they are all rubbish. Rubbish players, rubbish manager, rubbish chairman, rubbish scouts, rubbish CEO, rubbish ticket office, rubbish Mark Page, rubbish stewards, rubbish rubbish rubbish rubbish ?

  35. I'm not going to defend Gestede and Saville here but I do wonder if having your club trying to ship you out all summer effects the effort level you're willing to put in? The club don't want you so why should you bother kind of thing? From Saville's perspective, we signed him last summer, he moved to the other end of the country and then a year later we don't want him. I think I'd feel like I had been messed around albeit my pay rise would make me feel a bit better about it!

  36. Sounds like we were missing some leaders last night. A mix of youngsters, new players, and fringe outcasts in a cup game against a lower league team... everyone was likely playing in their own heads and focussing on their own game, not the team - which is why it felt so flat and disjointed. Feel as though the likes of Fry, Ayala, Randolph, Howson would be demanding more from those around them - which to be fair is exactly what Paddy did. I always think it's a good sign when a team fights back - especially when they've been crap on the night. It's when they roll over and die that you

  37. Yep, this. Clayton isn't even doing that bad a job and McNair has been good at breaking through midfield on the occasion he has a go. Given it's such a problematic point for us, keep him there to make sure he's doing it or we'll lose even more of our threat from midfield.

  38. Should it have come down to that? He was sub, the 11 on the pitch put us in that position - he was part of the reason we got back to 2-2, he then, after missing his last penalty for us last game, stood up and went first and believe me - I bet there weren't many volunteers to do so - you're talking as if he wanted to miss or didn't care, it's the start of the season, he's just had an 18 month nightmare and also missed some pre season. The criticism on here is ridiculous - we are clearly in trouble thanks largely to Gibson and Pulis. We are obviously short and a couple of the young uns lo

  39. After the performance of shotton in both league games so far I'd be putting friend in straight away. Hell even wood would (heh) go in above shotton for me.

  40. One or two people at the match last night couldn't wait to throw Woodgate under a bus, some of the abuse being levelled at him was dreadful for a rookie manager in his third game. I honestly can't understand why anyone would go out of their way to pay money to come to that match last night with that in their mind throughout. That was my understanding, especially as some of the players came round and got a fair round of applause.

  41. 3 of the starting 11 were from our U23s and youth. 2 more were fairly recently U23s players, and 3 were young new signings. It was a very young team outside of Gestede, Friend and Clayton.

  42. To be fair some of the performances were terrible and I'd expect him to say so, some of those players need a kick up the *** after that. I don't see how its a criticism of his methods, time is needed to get it right, what he mustn't do is panic and change tack like Monk did.

  44. I think woodgate has till the end of August to improve things, 1 away game and 2 home games. If we can’t step it up by then I can see quite a few people will start to ‘turn’. Not necessarily including myself in that but the large number of people who didn’t like the appointment, they were kept quiet by the PR and hype but I think that will be quickly forgotten if results don’t start backing it up soon. I hope this doesn’t end up resulting in a ‘haha you wanted entertainment’ thing because I don’t really think that’s the cause of our problems this season. At Luton it was rank bad defe

  45. Firstly, thank you oneboro and carabou for the tickets tonight. Secondly, where can I get back the 3 hours of my life that I have just lost! Anyway not much to say that hasn't already been said. Fletcher proved his worth when he came on. Gestede and Saville must never, I repeat never wear the Boro shirt again. Too many changes in the line up tonight which had a destabilising effect on an already confidence shy squad. Djiksteel and Bolo had poor debuts. Bolo got the equalizer but still poor. You look at him and think Jon Obi's back and then realise it ain't him. Just about c

  46. Bola only looked good in the last 15 minutes because we were camped in their half so he had zero defending to do, he finished his goal well but by and large he was awful. Dijksteel was better but he still looked very apprehensive and nervous. I'd be gobsmacked if when everyone is fit our defence isnt Dijksteel-Ayala-Fry-Friend. From seeing both Bola and Coulson so far, Bola is 3rd choice LB for me, by some distance. He looked like a competition winner who got to play with the pro's in that first half.
