  1. This is what you get when you only bring in league 1 players. It is what is.

  3. It's been quite a surreal footballing journey for the Boro recently, from that promotion season, to relegation, to a fanbase that's possibly the most divided I can remember. I just can't get my head around how we've managed to go from top flight to looking so absolutely dreadful in the space of 3 seasons. I've wanted Woodgate to do well, but the games I've seen so far I'm just really concerned about our prospects, despite that 45 minutes against Brentford. If we concede against Wigan on Tuesday, the ground will be toxic, and like last season that will completely kill our confidence

  4. Abject uninspiring lack of passion drive and leadership... my biggest concern is how after 45 mins the team are out on their legs... all is not rosy one thinks

  5. We are run poorly. No consistent football philosophy, no consistent transfer strategy, a bewildering selection of recent managers, and little communication with the fans. We have had £200m and now are desperate to get mediocre players off the books. After working for promotion, we went down with an absolute whimper. Not all clubs are well run- but we are no example!

  6. It’s early days yet, Woodgate is still new to the job. How many of you guys were really good at your job, when you first started it? These things take time, he’ll become a better manager and he’ll begin to make the right decisions. The table means nothing, this early in the season, there is a hell of a lot of football left to play. There is no point slating the new players, the club bought the ones they could both attract and afford, there’s no point getting cross because they came from league one teams whilst advocating the use of under 23 players. I want Woodgate to carry on with his p

  7. Early days for me, it hasn’t been great but I’m not too worried yet. Two home games next and if we can get two wins then that’ll set us up nicely! No need for mass panic yet.

  8. I will say that there's been a lot of space in midfield for Blackburn, a space a certain Mister Clayton usually gobbles up.

  9. The negativity on this thread is amazing. 3 league games in, new manager, new coaches flashes of decent football bloody hell give them a chance at least. May not be the coaching team we wanted but its the one we have. Cheer up guys, sun is shining and the beers cold, well it is here on my hols

  12. 90% of supporters know how to spend £20m? Would you count yourself in that? Far too easy to say, far less easy to prove. We'd have spunked money we don't have on Eze if you'd had your perfect way this summer. New ownership wouldn't inevitably mean we do things better as some on here like yourselves seem to want me and others to believe. It means that we pick up the pointer of where we are on the spectrum of how well to run a club, however far up or down that scale we currently are, and we drop ourselves back down on a random point along that scale. We could end up better, worse or in the

  13. Nowhere did I say let's sing his name through his bad decisions, I said I'm not going to push him out if he gets some things wrong. Because there's bad decisions and there's "Oh ***, we haven't got a club" and whilst it's not happening to every club, it still happens far too often for my liking. We know where we are with Gibson and in an era of football where every potential owner can give it their all for a couple of years before realising football isn't as simple as buying your way to the big bucks and leaving a club in a mess for someone worse off to try and work around, I'm happy enough ju

  14. Excellent post Blanco, this football club has broke my heart more than any women has but I'm still supporting them despite the many times I've said enough is enough, before renewing my season ticket. Masochist no, just the love of a football club since a kid, so I'll take the highs and the lows and roll with the punches. and I'll still be there moaning when things go wrong, its what we do.

  15. I do agree with you in principal CT I just think woody will turn to experience over youth to try and find that first win.

  16. Well over here in Ireland people do think that I’m some sort of football masochist for supporting Boro. Maybe I didn’t explain myself as clearly as I could have. I meant I would prefer the local owner who cares about the club against the gamble of a different owner who might throw money at it initially but then get bored and then dump us with tonnes of debt. I still remember 1986 too clearly and don’t ever want the risk of going back there. I don’t think that will happen under SG.

  17. Think that’s a difference of opinion between you and most others. I’d much rather be in City’s position - not for the winning (though that would be nice) but for the exciting Europe nights and the attacking , flowing football. The idea of a “local” club is pretty old fashioned - and even when we were doing really well under Gibson (late 90s early 2000s) I don’t think the emphasis was on being a local club, - Juninho and Emerson were not from Redcar! (Facetious - but we weren’t exactly full of local players!). The local club narrative is something the club have spun out in the last ten years t

  19. Yes, I am Italian. Born and raised. How I became a fan of the Boro: in 2005 Italian TV started broadcasting matches of the Fooball League Championship, something that made me discover the beauty of English "local clubs", so I immediately wanted to follow one of them. However, I was fifteen years old at the time and I was also a bit of a "glory hunter", so I wanted to follow a local team that played both Premier League and European football. That's why I chose the Boro. Obviously, the amazing Uefa Cup run of the 2005-06 season convinced me that I had made the right choice. I'd like to add

  27. Started alright, looked the better side. But then started to get overrun and balls switched across the pitch to Gallagher especially causing havoc, even with Friend one of our better players. Need to see more from Wing, doesn't look the same player this season. Very clumsy in and out of possession. Johnson and Fletcher have to work harder. Positives: Shotton and Friend both playing well. I'd go for a 433 and try something different. 4231 doesn't look effective.

  28. Honestly at the moment im quite amazed at how our defence has become so porous, and our discipline especially with cards is now lacking and referees especially are starting to pick that up.

  31. What system? I'm still confused as to what it's meant to be other than we press them high up the pitch? I haven't seen anything from us with the ball so far this season. Even at Luton it was more about the press than anything else. I'm just waiting for us to play some football and not only in a few minute spurts here and there.

  33. Yes cowardice. Woodgate is panicking and reverting to 'experience'. If he genuinely believes that the 11 we've put out there is our best 11 then fair enough. But if he does then why have we wasted what little money we have in the summer signing players that we don't rate? He's brought the lad in at right back so that's one but we were told or spun that we'd signed players right at the top of Woodgate's list. So bloody play them then! What are we waiting for exactly?

  34. Welcome @shadowmeister. I'm sure most Boro fans will be wishing blackburn all the best this season (barring your games against us) due to Tony being at the helm. I can't get your links to work though sadly

  35. I see no reason why we can't get at least a point from this one if not all three. It's Blackburn not Barcelona.

  38. What the *** goes through some players' heads in this day and age? More cameras than ever before watching them and they still resort to *** like this for nothing other than getting another player sent off. Bamford got rightfully pulled through the trash for doing it last season, I hope they do the same with Mitrovic. Absolute disgrace.

  39. Why does everyone always have to jump straight to this ‘entitled’ ***? *** me for hoping the club I support might make a bit of progress or even spend £100m wisely. We don’t just make mistakes, we make the same basic mistakes over and over, get a bit of money and throw it at anyone with a name, end up having to ‘cut our cloth’ languishing around with the likes of Wigan. Its not about getting a billionaire, I want someone to run the club properly.

  43. The financial health of the club is solely down to Gibson and nobody else. It has little to do with us being a small town in Teesside. In the last 3 years we have received about £180m from TV rights alone. The total income over that period is probably somewhere around the £240/250m mark, possibly even more. There's no reason at all why this football club should be in bad shape financially with these sorts of numbers. You get to that point by screwing things up. Perhaps him being used to adulation is part of the problem? You get adulation when things are going well, it doesn't contin

  44. Exactly. People freaking out just need to look at last season! Norwich didn't win for 8 games or something, I'm pretty sure their first win was against us. Going back a few years does anyone else remember Readings promotion season where they were relegation candidates until christmas and then went up automatically? That was nuts.
    1 point
  45. Yep, we got off to an absolute flyer last year and then gradually slipped down the table. Norwich were around the relegation zone, Sheffield United midtable. Can't put much stock into early season results, it's nice to get some points on the board but it's not like we're in bad trouble if we lose this game...

  48. I'm going to play devil's advocate here, I've already said in another thread that Boro fans have been spoilt over the years, the fact that when we can only use profit to buy and we can't even afford two loan signings shows where we are as a club - a small town in Teesside. How long can you go on every season trying to fulfil the fans expectations and falling short, getting criticism where you are used to adulation? Also social media has its effect, where before it the minority would be drowned out by the faithful and unless there were huge vocal protests (the end of the Robson era

No expectations or hope, going to watch it feeling like a neutral somewhat. A good game of football will suffice. Even with a positive run of results, it's too little too late.

I think that says a great deal of how fans are feeling now It's completely flat being a boro fan for many reasons this season and we have retreated so much from last seasons high I for one can't wait for the season to be over! Few more wins and  I am looking forward to see the likes of luke Woolston getting a few chances by the end of the season. I'm sure this MDT will pick up at the end of today's result 🤣
