  1. Totally agree, saying Gibson doesn't have the money to compete is a kop out for him. We've spent plenty of money, we've just wasted it.

  2. I’d been on many years ago. Just couldn’t remember the details !!! Was trying to get logged in last few weeks but just gave up and new account. There is another constant factor also not mentioned. Neil Bausor. The deals this man has struck has been below standard. I took personal note when a fan following another club of similar stature that their delight in his club pulling his pants down at every opportunity. We don’t have a team of top table directors scrutinising every thread of every decision. This is football. A business. Just a couple of guys (and nothing wro

  3. I don’t think it’s about how much money he has or hasn’t got, we’ve still outspent most championship clubs and even outspent half the premiership after we came down. Its not how much money we have but the how we USE the money that’s the problem. We are operated inefficiently

  4. Karanka wasn't all that. He did well in the championship, but even then we only just scraped up and it certainly wasn't because we were playing lavish football. He also benefitted massively from Victor Orta & us generally being pretty consistent in the transfer market. Then he completely bottled it in the Prem, after almost bottling it in the Championship.. it makes me question people's sanity when they're calling for us to get him back. He'd probably do better than Woodgate yeah, but it'd be straight back to playing the functional football that everyone supposedly hated under Pulis.. bit

  7. I went to the game actually, I was in the away end with a friend who is a charlton fan. Atmosphere was fantastic and Bowyer set the team up really well tactically I thought. The game was really good. I miss enjoying watching football so this was a good experience for me! Maybe its a perfect storm for Bowyer there, and maybe he wouldn't be any good elsewhere, but there are a lot of similarities between him and Woodgate. I'd be very open to giving him a chance at Boro if the opportunity arose.

  8. I have mentioned before I would like a fan forum/Radio Tees etc to have an open discussion with Gibson like he did on the 3 legends years ago. I think more fans would be accepting or the recent plight with open and honest discussion about where we are and what we are trying to do. His denial of any financial struggles during JWs appointment interview contradicted what we did during the transfer window. That said I cant see it happening given the reception he had after the "smash the league" and "more Sunderland fans in Stockton" have led to a lot of criticism post the interviews.

  9. Yes it was a pity he never gave AK some of that money a few months earlier in the January window.Maybe AK would have kept us up then. It just shows the loyalty he gave Karanka no money in January to help him out but as soon as Monk took over he spends 50 mill on players. Obviously looking back at the stats I believe AK was possibly the best manager that Boro ever had apart from McClaren's Cup.

  10. We got promoted whilst spending big under Gibson 4 years ago, and we failed to get promoted whilst spending even bigger under Gibson in the last 2 years. It seems to be a commonly repeated fallacy that we can't compete anymore despite spending more than most Championship clubs every season. It's decisions and appointments that are letting the club down, not money.

  11. For me the only way our long term future improves is with a new owner. It's been said before but Gibbo is a small fish in a massive ocean and the effects are being felt now. The grass isn't always greener but we are more of a muddy field now. We could easily be staring another decade in the championship if not even a stint in league 1 the way this season is going. With that comes a drop in value, income and interest in the club and not to mention the impact on his reputation.

  12. To me Gibson is a control freak. He's given top jobs to all of his mates and has surrounded himself with yes men who'll never question his decisions at all. He had the perfect opportunity to do something different and hire a manager who'd motivate fans to return and the players to do well and instead just banked it all on Woodgate potentially coming good. Absolute travesty how we blew our chance in the premier League and he refused to back the manager who got us there and was willingly giving Agnew more chance. I worry hell give Woodgate the full season, even if we drop to League 1

  14. Just a quick question and touched upon very briefly earlier in the thread. Why is it that teams like Crystal Palace, Watford, Norwich (though unsure about them at this time) Wolves, Burnley, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Brighton, all teams of comparable sizes and one's we used to compete with on a regular basis, are doing so much better than MFC? Is it because each and every other team does have a board of directors instead of a dictatorship like we have? Are they really a more attractive destination for a football player? Have they all had better backing in terms of recrui

  16. Yeah I still get snippets and gossip but sometimes it's delayed, however if you have seen my posts over the past few weeks you will notice the majority of my posts have been regarding team sheets. I will continue to pass on whatever I get though for you guys to have a debate over.

  17. I can’t believe we are in such a mess tbh, I can’t believe how some can’t see how incompetently we are being operated, there is no way around it now, Gibson is awful and it’s utterly his fault not woodgates. I get the feeling our recruitment process is a total joke, not just regarding who we target/bring in but the actual way we go about it. The amount of players that turn us down, the fact that we scraped the barrel and appointed woodgate, it’s no coincidence that we can’t get anyone other than locals or nobodies. By this point it is PROVEN that we can’t build a squad, in 3 and a ha

  18. No offence taken BD. I just am trying to inspire some healthy debate over the international break as it usually gets very quiet on here. Oh.... and I’m trying to keep SD and Brunners away from that bloody NFL thread ?

  19. Having slept on it I've got some thoughts I honestly dread to think what Woodgate could do given more time with this team. We've had, by my standards anyway, a pretty nice start to league life and had some pretty nice fixtures, yet we picked up a measley 10 points from them, and that imo is without playing anyone of significant note, who we've got coming up after the int'ls. I'd agree with the calls to stick if there was some sign of improvement but so far I'm just not seeing anything of the kind. If anything it's been regression from the Luton game to where we are now. It se

  20. So many calls for Woodgate to be sacked - couldn't disagree more. There's no doubt we now find ourselves in the midst of a relegation battle, that we've been pretty woeful and, to be fair, there is the possibility that Woodgate may be out of his depth. However, we've overhauled half the playing staff, we're trying [or at least intending to] to play a completely different style and our transfer strategy is an absolute polar opposite of what it was before. If in appointing a rookie manager that our expectation is instant success under these parameters - and therefore to sack a manager now a

  21. Britt is absolutely abysmal. His link up play and hold up play has to be the worst in the league. Fans go on about the goals he scores but his all round play substantially reduces the amount we score as a team. And I’d much rather us score a load as a team than having one individual scoring loads (which isn’t even happening) and the rest scoring none.

  22. There’s no more glossing over this with tales of learning and in experience, it’s failed and will never work. How do I know? Because any rookie manager who succeeds has their team running through walls for them, when karanka first came here the difference in energy levels was night and day, the squad was limited and we struggled at times but the energy, shape and discipline was there. Thats the difference between then and now, none of that is evident in what I see. We are going DOWN if things don’t change quickly, enough sugar coating.

Very lucky considering Martinez got two yellows but got away with it due to the penalties not being regarded as the same game, which doesn't really make sense to me

Sorry mate I added a bit more.

Yeah, I get that. Like last night, Real Madrid were played off the park by Man City but have scraped through to a major semi-final because City couldn't finish and they've scrapped away goals. Tonight, Aston Villa were lucky to beat Lille on penalties, who were much the better team on the night.

I suppose I'm the opposite.  I don't like penalty shoot outs, they have nowt to do with a game of football really.  Be like settling The Masters with a putting competition or something.  Obviously they are a necessary evil but I'd prefer matches to be sorted out with an actual game of football.  Agree about the FA Cup final but the FA bottled that one a while back by pandering to the Premier League.  It's quite a weak governing body unfortunately, and has been since they decided to cut their own throats and back the Premier League.  That was more about trying to stitch up the Football League than it was about the long term benefits to either themselves or football in general.  They stuffed themselves as well though the morons.
