  1. Welcome to the Official oneBoro Match Day Thread for the EFL Championship fixture between Middlesbrough and Hull City. Boro currently find themselves in the bottom 3 of the Championship without a win in 7 league matches... that win against Reading seems an awfully long time ago... well that's because it was! Hull find themselves middle of the pile in 12th having won 3 of their last 5, the wins coming away to Fulham and Forest whilst beating Derby at home. These sides have met 52 times previously in the league - Boro winning 25, 14 in Hulls favour and 13 draws - Boro will need to a

  3. Boro flashback - Not my usual this day back in time but due to the Boro's present predicament I thought I would post about a game with a touch of class, a match with plenty of needle in the game & a mackem scoring a quality free kick for the mighty Boro The day was the 7th February 1981 Graeme Hedley, playing his 2nd consecutive game when standing in for the injured Craig Johnston, scored a top drawer free kick at the holgate end for his one & only goal that season, if you only score one goal in a season then a top drawer goal against your local rivals will be the ideal one

  4. Seem to have lost my previous reply , sorry if it turns up as a double post. we 're now in the bottom 2 & so really need a win, albeit a draw will take us out of the relegation spots, which I suspect might happen. its hard for woodgate , he's not got many options, but I'd persevere with Tav as he can commit/ pressurise defenders , & play wing further forward- although it may take a few games to bear any fruit, luxury we don't really have

  5. I believe a draw is possible but only 2 wins from 16 games does not give me much hope for more. It could be argued in the last game we had shown a bit more ability but the fact was the opposition were weak. If we can start picking up points starting tomorrow, then we may have a chance to move in the right direction but make no mistake, mid table is looking very hard to achieve. If things don’t start happening sooner rather than latter I can see SG swallowing pride and making changes.

  6. This day back in time at Ayresome Park seen Wilf Mannion bag a league one hat trick in a 3- 3 draw v Portsmouth, one of 5 hat tricks Wilf scored for the Boro Brian Clough bagged 4 this day back in 1957 in a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town, in a 2nd division fixture, this been one of 17 hat tricks, he scored 4 in 4 seperate fame & 5 goals in one game v Brighton

Why did we sign Gestede, Saville etc etc. Jenny Was A Friend of Mine - For Red Rocket. All These Things That I've Done - Gibson wondering why he's getting criticism. 14. After reading the gazette and the headlines “returning stars” I feel so much more confident about the team as they set there sights on Hull “ to repay patient fans”. In my opinion it’s a done deal so I’m off to place a wager on beating Hull. I could kick myself at times knowing all I needed to do was be patient and sooner or latter the team would turn up and everything would be alright. I can feel the spring in my step returning and I can finally settle down and start planning on a Merry Xmas.

  15. Wing and Tav's shooting last season was excellent from outside the box, not saying they shouldn't be in the box supporting the strikers, but you don't shoot you don't score, you hit the ball well enough and on target the keeper has to do something about it. Its down to confidence Wing and Tav have the ability to cause problems from outside the box, its just one option of many.

  16. Don't you think we've always been a curse on strikers? I think back to the days of Hamilton Ricard and Brian Deane, who came with reputations they never managed to live up to. If I had to list the strikers we've signed who'd actually lived up to their billing/reputation/fee in the last 20 years, it'd be a short list of maybe a handful. I'm not even sure there'd be anyone from the last decade. And I don't believe we've been deficient in midfield or wide that entire time.

  17. I don't think it's the goal scorer, it's the lack of creativity and pace to create the opportunities (granted Britt has missed one or two) and the whole balance of the squad, shocking decision making and recruitment by many over a long period of time.

  18. Moses i feel can still get a lower end PL team in for him. I see billy sharp is reportedly surplus to requirements at Sheff Utd. Would not mid him at all on a loan until end of season. Also what has happened to Sam Vokes at Stoke? Always rather impressed with him at Burnley, especially his ability to hold it up. He could be another worth a look at on a short term loan if stoke do not fancy him in the short term.

  21. Outstanding post @AsheAshe. Great guy though he is, FMTTM's Rob won't change the design or functionality of the site, and it's slowly strangling the life out of their forum. It's a shame so many offers of help have gone unacknowledged over the years, especially when you consider how much work goes into keeping OB looking fresh and easy to use.

  23. Leeds have opened a development centre for youngsters in Middlesbrough, hoping to find some quality. There's also an interesting discussion going on in the comments on the Gazette live Facebook page, apparently Boro have gotten rid of a lot of their scouts and said in a letter to them that they are moving in a "different direction". Given our current situation, I think we should be casting our net far and wide for bargains, not limiting ourselves with smaller numbers of scouts. There are people also saying that other teams watch the TJFA but Boro don't even have a scout at game

Hackney hasn't been in the squad the last two games after making a fleeting appearance on the bench a couple of weeks ago. He's not ready to start a game. I think it'll be mcnair in for ayling like you say but I reckon vdb starts at right back like early on in the season. The rest will be unchanged but with greenwood in for silvera.

If Dijksteel does not start this, then the writing really is on the wall for him, if its jot already anyway. I actually don't think he will start. I think Paddy will come in and we will change to a wing back system with Jones and Engel - which will say a lot about what MC thinks of Dijksteel in not trusting him at RB or as a 3rd CB (he played his best football there for us) Also would not be surprised to see Hackney replace Greenwood and plsy in an advanced role but rather Silveria or Gilbert there: Dieng Paddy VDB Clarke Jones Howson O'Brien Engel Silveria LL Azaz
