  1. Not saying Warnock is the answer, but this "project" that was sold to the fans at the start of the season is absolute pure horse ***. Fans lapped it up in droves as well

  4. How can being relegated be better than not being relegated? I'll take 'just staying up' right now. Our last two relegations have turned out brilliantly. Warnock has got a team promoted in the last two years and almost kept them up too - harsh in my opinion to compare to Pulis who failed in direct competition with a vastly superior budget. I don't think anyone has ever dreamt of seeing Warnock as their team's manager... but would take him over the pure embarrassing ineptitude getting served up right now. If Woody keeps up it will be through blind luck of there somehow being three poor

  6. My own belief is that Gibson is balancing the books ready for a sale, I just canā€™t see it any other way as all the signs are pointing that direction. A major problem being that as everyone knows the North East teams seem to be at the back of the line. Unsure of how legit the Red Bull claims were but that really got my hopes up as they would be a great fit, look what theyā€™ve done for Leipzig in the Bundesliga in such a short space of time, 3rd/4th and Champions League every season. Most importantly, an extremely well run club which is the biggest thing we need right now.

  7. Hi, Apologies for the intrusion. I covered an U23 match of yours against Newcastle back in November, and planned to do so next time you played down south and I was nearby. I went to the match against Crystal Palace today, which 'Boro absolutely dominated, and put together this match report with photos. https://thegrassrootstourist.com/2019/12/02/crystal-palace-u23/ Hope it's of interest to some. 8. Woodgate can't win (a game of football I know ololololol) Some fans wanted him to go back to something that was more effective with the players at his disposal. Some fans want him to stick to his guns against all odds. This isn't like Monk who had any player he wanted brought on board then decided to change tact before the window had even closed. This is entirely different. This is Woodgate admitting playing the way he wants us to play is going to be very difficult without the players he needs to play the system. And it's a case of changing to something more befitting of what he

What a total lack of respect from the Gazette, no journalist can wash their hands with this degree of manipulation. Fans are frustrated with the ineptitude at the top of the club. Yes, the club seems to be trying to right those wrongs, but the same people remain in charge and have given fans little faith they have the knowledge to turn it around. As far as most fans are concerned, the milk continues to spill. This article rebuffs all the subsidiary concerns fans have whilst completely failing t

  14. "As they should" Why?? We look abject. Are people genuinely convinced that when these players are back from injury that were suddenly going to turn out to be absolutely fantastic? Even when he had a full team to turn to we were getting outplayed week in week out. How many teams do people genuinely know of where failure is totally accepted and 3 wins is deemed as ok?

  15. That may be so, the club's hand may be forced in an effort to keep us up. However, abandoning our supposed new direction less than 6 months after it was announced would be an embarrassment. All this would really highlight to me is the club's failure to commit to the new direction in the summer. They gave us rhetoric and nothing else. Frauds, the lot of them.

  16. Can you really blame them? Every fan still wants this project of more attacking football and bringing Jokanovic in instead of Woodgate was the obvious thing that was needed, and every Boro fan knew this at the time.

  17. It isn't really against all odds though, is it? Woodgate admitting things that aren't his fault is a pretty good way of deflecting blame from himself but to a certain extent he probably has a point. But we did sign players in the summer, players he apparently wanted, and he hasn't played them. So it's not entirely clear what the situation would be now had we signed more players that he wanted. Someone else has already made this point but there isn't a great deal of evidence to suggest we have adopted an approach that's more effective with the players at his disposal. You'd be hard

  20. That's ok if you actually believe there was a plan to start with. I think the reality about a change in direction was a load of spin to pacify the fans after another tinpot appointment. You had a situation where no one wanted Woodgate, then after the opening press conference and a few Gazette propaganda pieces everyone was jumping for joy. All it took was a few soundbites about playing attacking football and bringing Leo and Mejias back to the club and it kept everybody sweet. Some of us have heard it all before, I posted a Gazette article from the Southgate era when we

  24. Sunderland tried to stop the rot even earlier than this, they sacked Simon Grayson in October, appointed Chris Coleman mid November, it just got worse. I think there are more poor teams in the Championship this season than when Sunderland went down, and honestly think we'll stay up whether Woodgate stays or goes. I still think they should go though.

  25. Political leanings have a lot to do with a lot of things. I mean some on here want us to go European, get coaches and players out of Europe to bring across and develop instead of sticking with the usual. For that argument to hold as much sense, being pro-EU is meaningful in terms of our club. There are forms of Brexit, particularly this ham-fisted 'sod them all' type which Warnock seems to profess to, which could heavily reduce the kind of recruitment we could do without Freedom of Movement. Football isn't exempt from the rules. Not to mention that I would think NB4 amongst some of our Ir

  26. Rather stick than twist to be totally honest, if what were twisting to is warnock. Dont like him as a manager, cant stand him as a person. I also feel that it will just add to the long term suffering of the club. Give him a january and hell sign more players to fit his style of football who well then struggle to shift once again once it inevitably goes wrong. Personally I'd rather give woodgate the time to keep us up and start fresh in the summer either with him as our manager if he proves successful in the second half of the season or with a new manager who wont just continue the

  27. Your totally misunderstanding what Iā€™m saying, Iā€™m not supporting short term thinking but we just have to admit that now is the time for exactly that. And where did I say we dropped out and rebuilt? Weā€™ve got every decision badly wrong since sacking karanka, Iā€™m not supporting any of them. What I meant was dropping out of the championship in to league 1 is a totally different proposition and we have to avoid it at all costs. Warnock would achieve that and thatā€™s what would make appointing him viable.

  28. I respectfully disagree. Pulis took a squad which was arguably the most expensively assembled in the Championship and led us to 5th place and a pitiful, supine defeat against Villa in his first half-season, then took us to 7th in his one full season and claimed that was better than finishing 5th. He imbued the squad with such a phobia of attacking football that Woodgate hasn't been able to coach it out of the players, he filled the squad with unnecessary CDMs while totally ignoring the desperate need for wide players, treated van la Parra like s**t, took more wages than any manager in our hist

  32. I think a decent Premier League team at home is probably the best thing to hope for. A bit of extra revenue that's a 'free hit'. I think we could do without the added pressure of having to beat a lower league opposition and potentially crashing out early as it will only make feelings/confidence worse.

  33. I'm crying out for a home draw DS because I will be over from the 3rd - 6th Jan for a function so would love to be able to pick up a Boro game while I'm there. If not a home draw at least somewhere reasonably local enough so I can go to the game. UTB

  34. Even if they make astute signings and get us into the top half premiership? At Leipzig they have done exactly what we need to do, got someone in to run the club and that guy has done a fantastic job, they may even put that guy in charge here as there is far more money to be made. We would be instantly relevant in football again if they took over. However I think the ideal option for everyone would be Gibson to change to a spurs type arrangement, put someone in to run the club, like his best mate Kenyon who seems to be sat around bored wanting to run a club. That doesnā€™t look like itā€™s goi

  35. I donā€™t see why anyone would turn their nose up to warnock? I mean Iā€™d like to see stendel brought in, we SHOULD have brought the cowleys in, but now is not the time for another gamble. If we do change manager it will be the one shot we get at it and surely warnock is the sensible option? A contract till the end of the season, he keeps us up and we part ways is surely win win for everyone. Are people still worried about style of football when we are close to relegation to league 1 ffs?

  36. Well yeah you never know until you give him a chance. However, it wasn't hard to predict that this was going to happen. Bringing in an experienced man to mentor Woodgate is just admitting that he isn't ready though in my opinion.

  39. Makes me quite sick tbh. Must be the only club in the league that is willingly accepting failure and allowing the manager to get away with effectively being tactically inept. 3 wins in under half of the season is absolutely appauling, especially given the performances we put in for those wins too. I know people don't like Warnock, but I would have been much more happy and confident with him and charge and even probably found some excitement to go to games again, but under Woodgate were just sinking at the rate of knots. Just confirms to me too, that Woodgate is indeed bullet proof.

  40. No Phil, you can't turn the clock back. But it would be nice if the local paper had some bloody spine to question why we did that in the first place, why we spent so much on Gestede, Guedioura, Shotton, Flint and Saville just as a few examples. You don't get to complain about FFP and needing to meet the demands by pointing the finger at other clubs who aren't suffering for it.

  42. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying changing manager right now to avoid relegation, changing to Warnock to do that, will go right back into the territory of Pulis for a large number of fans. Whatever your position on Woodgate's ability, changing to a manager who can just help us avoid relegation with very little hope of developing this brand of football people so desire is going to ire and provide distaste to some people. It was bad enough when we were up at the top end of the table, do you really think people are going to welcome 'avoiding relegation' with crap football as a means to

  43. I'd be confident of staying up with Warnock to be fair, he wants to retire at the end of the season anyway and he's always wanted to work for Gibson. Good short term solution given the circumstances.

  44. I called this weeks ago, if Woodgate goes then it'll be a reversion back to functional football with a pragmatic manager. Saying that if we are fighting relegation without any money then Warnock is going to get better results than Woodgate. He's also more likely to keep us in the division. This is where we are now as a club unfortunately.

  48. They aren't. Beating us means nothing. Sheff Wed beat us 4-1 at our place and they aren't a great side either. Leeds have an almost identical record to the one we had when we went up and we weren't a great side when we got promoted (I know, sacrilege!). West Brom are a point behind them with a game in hand and I don't think they are a great side as well. Being the best team in the division, if indeed they are, doesn't make you a great team by default. There are teams who have been promoted over the last few years who would were better sides than these in my opinion.
