  1. Hull v Boro Details Teams – Hull v Middlesbrough Location – The Tiger King Stadium Competition – The Championship (only just) Date – Thur 2nd July 2020 Kick off – 17:00 Introduction Hi. The Last Games Boro: Stoke 0 – 2 Boro Boro beat the toothless Stoke 2-0 with goals from Fletcher and a peach of a strike from Tavernier. Jack Butland could only jump up and down and have a strange little tantrum as he watched both goals fly past him. Warnock’s Boro looked a lot more confident and refused to give up their lead, despite several

  2. Agree with those saying don’t get carried away etc. But when you say “on another day if stoke had scored there chances we’d have lost 3-2”, you also have to factor in that on another day we could/should have had a pen, Britt was inches away from tapping in, and Saville should have scored from 10 yards out. We earned the win.

  3. Maybe Woodgate was originally supposed to be something else as well, but by the time everyone else had switched around and decided what they were going to be, all that was left was manager.

  4. I would like to think that Steve Gibson can realise that the expense of a DOF is far cheaper than the disasters we have repeatedly witnessed by not having an experienced DOF. OK maybe its the equivalent of an expensive player that we will then not be able to invest into the squad but I'd rather sacrifice that one Player than witness the series of car crash signings that we have had to endure. Persistent failings have seen us gone from one extreme to the other. Paying highly inflated fees and wages for average journeymen footballers (some even worse than journeymen) at this level, awarded

  7. @TAPOUT 1. He has not suddenly signed a new deal. Club been confident he would sign since around Jan and all the itk posters said the same. He would sign a new deal. 2. He hasn't played all sorts of positions. He played RB for us last season for about 10 games under Pulis when we had a crisis with injurys n suspenions. This is position he continued to play this season with a handful of games at CB. Dont recall him playing in all sorts of positions. 3. Endorsement about Howson has not come from JW alone. Pulis rated him. Monk rated him and Warnock does too as he praised him post

  8. He was legit our star performer for much of the season.. and I thought he did the DM role very well at Stoke, plenty of pace and energy to clean things up, and carried the ball forward well from deep. The ball forward to Tav was outstanding. Trying to replace Howson is not something the club should be spending its time on this Summer.

  10. Of course we should be cautious but there's nothing wrong with enjoying a win either. I said that I can potentially see us winning the next 2 games, not because we've suddenly become a great team but because of who we are facing. I know Hull drew yesterday but i think they got a Birmingham team with very little to play for and still couldn't hang on for the win. They are missing key players and in utter disarray off the pitch. Weve got better players than them so I don't see why we can't be confident going there. As for QPR, from what I've read their players seem to be treati

  12. Karanka didnt get money right away. He took over moggas team, signed ayala and brought us from relegation to top half of the table by the end of the season. He spent less than 5mil the following summer and has us in the play off final. People really underestimate the job karanka did here.

  13. Warnock. Retires (for the 473rd time). Signs 8 match contract with Boro. Keeps Boro up with 2 games to spare. Can't resist the allure of one more season in management, for a club and chairman he's always had a soft spot for. The Mrs is just happy to get rid of him for another year. Finishes 2nd in his first full season with Boro, 4 points behind recently relegated Villa. Cannot turn down the temptation of one final shot at PL management. Signs 1 year deal. Keeps Boro up on the final game of the season with a point at The Amex. Standing ovation from the Boro faithful, Warnock in a flood of tear

  15. As I kinds touched on the Stoke thread, I think Hull will look and see Spence as the back post target and that will form their game plan. Wouldnt be averse to seeing Shotton at RB for this reason. I am a fan of Spence but he needs to learn how to deal with scenarios where he isnt the bigger stronger lad and we really need to not lose this game.

  19. People always seem to either forget this side of the argument, or willfully ignore it. If all good chances were scored we probably should have won about 6-3.

  22. I think there were a fair few fans who were critical of Rudys contract and injuries but accepted he bought something to the team given how Woodgate wished to set up towards the end and how Warnock intends to set up. I was maybe expecting the guy to say "yeah I will play for another 3 weeks. Its not much of an ask given i only managed 70 odd appearances in nearly 4yrs on 30k a week". If you strip the argument to its bare bones then nor he or Ayala done anything wrong. However, some of us tend to look at things from a moral perspective as well as a legal/literal persepctive and in res

  25. Paddy McNair played CB for Man Utd and Right Back for NI. He hasn’t set our midfield alight, yet Howson is less effective in midfield than Mcnair and couldn’t shift him. It is all just opinions and perspectives though, and I am very obviously in the minority. By the sound of it though it wasn’t a decision I or the club could influence so I really hope next season is the best he has had for us.

  26. It’s all perceptions and opinions. And where I hear yours, mine is the other end of the spectrum. Jonny comes across (to me) as a total pro. Always fit, been picked by every manager we’ve had. Willing to play in position, out of position and where as he’s not setting the world on fire he’s solid performer in all he does. Every team needs a Jonny Howson and we’ve got the original good business tying down a constant performer in this time of uncertainty

  27. Sounds like a complete shambles. It certainly seemed that way at the time, with rumours galore and ending in a strange set up and Coyne obviously drafted in very last minute. What on earth was Gibson thinking? I’m worried for next season. We’ve had the European approach with Karanka and Orta, completely thrown away when Gibson decided he wanted to go back to British. Then Pulis with the “root and branch review” which seemed to advocate for employing Woodgate and left us struggling financially. Woodgate and his inexperienced team leaving us fighting relegation and now Warnock. So what nex

  28. Fletcher signed a 4yr deal when he signed for us in July 2017 which would make him out of contract next year unless he has signed an extension at some point?

  29. Honestly if I was in his position I think I'd play until the end of the season. If I had cost the club a lot of money, been paid millions and not really provided an awful lot in return then I think I'd feel like I owed a little bit back. I'd back myself to score a few goals and put myself in the shop window. With Ayala, I think although he's had a lot of injuries he didn't really cost much money to sign and overall I think we've had our money's worth out of him. It doesn't really feel the same with Gestede.

  30. I remember the talk of Leo getting messed about too! Sounds like it was a mess all round. How can we expect anyone to come in a be successful, if we can't even assemble a backroom team!

  33. We are probably the only team in history that gets stronger every time an expensive player leaves. Frees up space for committed and talented youngsters to actually get a game.

  34. Oh, I'm not sad to see him go, far from it. I just think that he's a complete *** house, same goes for Ayala. But then I tend to leave the fawning over footballers to others, so I suppose I would feel that way 👍

  36. I think you have to look at the fact that last week, like all season we have been absolutely shambolic and relegation certs. Warnock has been here 4 days and in that very short space of time has us looking so much stronger and with another 4 days until the next game there's a chance of more improvement again. Yes the promotion talk is abit daft but in no ways any boro fan should get shot down for feeling positive and excited about the remainder of the season.

  37. I love this interview clip from Warnock. After Gestede said he didn’t want to sign a contract extension, Warnock told him to clear off even before his contract expired 😂😂😂

  38. Not sure experience is the thing. Robson and Karanka had no experience of management but had been around great managers. Monk had plenty of experience in this league and was crap for us. I think having a clue helps and not switching from the dressing room to the dugout. Today showed how badly we have been managed this season. The main difference today was that although it wasn't brilliant people looked like they knew what the manager was asking of them. Our shape on and off the ball was better. Big big game coming up.

  39. It took Neil Warnock 45 minutes to demonstrate what an appalling appointment Woodgate was. He's already got the team playing more cohesively and positively, with stronger individual performances than his predecessor could manage in 40 games. Our squad is nowhere near bad enough to be League One standard. We've been almost criminally mismanaged for most of this season. There is simply no substitute for experience when it comes to appointing a manager. I really hope the penny will finally drop with Gibson after this, whether he appoints Warnock, Hughton, Jokanovic or anyone else for next se

  40. Hull's huge puts us to 47 gives us 5 points breathing room and if QPR lose in the meantime if we beat them I believe we get on level points with them. 3 wins out of 7 would historically get us safety but if Warnock gets a couple of draws or 1 extra win in there we'd be guaranteed it. Our squads in better shape than alot of the ones above and below us if Warnock beats Hull we're not safe but it's a massive marker for the rest of the run in.

  41. Minimum 5 points clear of relegation if we beat Hull, I think. That game is absolutely massive.

  42. Who would have thought 0 - 2 away. Conceded 0, scored 2. Whoa! No come on let’s be fair, Stoke couldn’t hit a barn door from five yards, which means, our voodoo has passed to them, now it has to be a mid table finish. OK I’m joking, but for a long time I feel smug enough today, feels good. SG, why did you wait for so long when the stats and fans told you a long, long time ago, CHANGE THE MANAGER!!!!

  48. He was out of contract at Leeds. Only signed a 1yr rolling deal so again for all intents and purposes he was a manager out of work when we approached him. Gibson does not seem to be a fan of paying compensation for managers and same would have been true for Monk. I find it odd Gibbo seemingly reluctant to pay a fee for a good manager but happy to sanction pi*s poor transfers for huge fees.

  49. Sacking Karanka was the worst decision, only seconded by not backing him in the transfer market when in the Prem. Even if we had gone down, he should have remained and we would be back up. Gibson just continually makes cack decision after cack decision.
