  4. So apparently we have unbalanced defence yet he plays friend at CB and Makoudi as defensive midfielder, Howson as right back... Sometimes managers just make you laugh don't they? Shotton RB Makoudi CB Friend LB It's really not that hard is it?

  5. The one time someone was on his wavelength against QPR he played that beautiful disguised pass through to Fletcher. He just doesn't usually have the options. He is ball greedy but wingers often are, especially ones with his obvious individual talent. It's just exacerbated when your team consists of Patrick Roberts & 10 traffic cones.

  6. At least he's trying something, more than can be said for any of the other wastes of space out there. Are you surprised he's trying to do it all himself when everyone else is as bad as they are?

  8. We have the 11th (joint) best defensive record in the league. We have the 24th best attacking record in the league. Our forwards and midfielders are good but the defence is bad? The average number of goals conceded in the Championship is 53.5. The median number is 53. We've conceded 53 so we are average defensively but no worse than that. The average number of goals scored in the Championship is therefore also 53.5 and the median is also 53. We've scored 40 goals. The next worst team has 45. We are the worst in the league and there's a gap between us and the rest. There a

"oh no, sorry important customer, I was talking to George Friend" I think we'll win, just because no-one else does. 3-1 Boro.

  13. If Warnock thinks our fullbacks (Howson/Spence/Marv) are too adventurous why not play Shotton on the right, bring Moukoudi back in to the middle and George on the left? The tools are there if that's what he wants to do.

  15. Exactly. My Danish team is a huge proof of that. For the past 25 years we've been a laughing stock in Denmark. Very similar to Leeds really. Second biggest city in Denmark, huge fanbase and historically one of the biggest clubs in Denmark. But until three years ago we were absolute shambles. Dire financials, three relegations in about 8 years and the club was riddled with old players in senior positions doing each other favors and a new manager every other year. What happens? The board hired a CEO with a proven record of running a football club and gave him almost free reign. He in turn h

  16. Exactly. A manager only spends what the chairman gives them. This is where a Director of Football earns their pay - vetting potential transfer targets and deciding whether 1) they will work with / improve the current setup and 2) if they are worth the asking price. Most managers should really have someone they can use as a sounding board when it comes to transfers - especially younger / newer ones who are liable to be like kids in a candy store.

  17. Yeah, when you watch what happens when he tries to bring others into play, are we really so shocked he ends up trying to do it all by himself? And to be fair to him, once or twice, he gets into a decent position to shoot out of nowt. People also generally complain about how selfish Britt is and usually they're right... in the last couple of games, he's done the hard work and put a shift in but gets no joy from others. Saying it again, I hate diving but really, I could understand why he went down so easily in a position he was gonna struggle to get a shot off.

  19. I’d go for a revolutionary approach of playing players in their actual positions, rather than a CM at RB, a LB at CB, a LM at LB, a CB at CM and ravel Morrison on the pitch. so something like; spence-moukoudi-fry-coulson - - - - - - McNair Saville - - - - roberts - - - - - - - - - - - - -tavernier - - - - - - - fletcher- - - britt It’s not what id actually play but I think it’s a reasonable proposal given the players NW appears to prefer. As CT mentioned our defence, whilst not watertight, has been (relatively) okay. That said we can’t wait around to go

  21. Bottom line is someone needs to he held accountable for the signings of players such as Gestede For £6m Assombalonga For £15m Saville for £7m £28m exc. wages. Bought by 3 different managers. We have an unbalanced squad because we have overpaid and squandered money on tripe. You could build a well structured and competent team for under £20m. Somebody has to be held accountable for the catastrophic mess that is MFC and has been for the last 4 seasons +

  22. Sounds like Warnock is trying to take some pressure off the strikers. We’ve scored 40 goals, less than a goal per game. We have close to zero creativity in midfield, little pace and two strikers (Britt and Fletcher) who are pure confidence players.. with zero confidence. The defence is not great but it’s not what is going to relegate us if we keep losing 0-1.

  23. Even allowing for the fact he's probably lost a bit of pace now, he's probably still better than any of the CBs in the current squad. Used to play for Real Madrid y'know...well he signed for them at any rate... Maybe thats why he's being kept on...they're just waiting for his player registration documents to be processed. 😁

  24. If were in desperate need of a centre back we used to have a pretty good one and I'm pretty sure hes still employed by the club somewhere.... his last role didn't go so well though
    1 point
  25. We all know why this is. One part our recruitment policy and one part mr "I've left the club in great shape behind the scenes". And for what its worth I dont agree with him. We have some average centre midfielders who lack creativity, one good winger who will not be here next season and a couple of strikers who have had the confidence sapped out of them.

  30. Just watched Warnock's presser... he basically says we have some good midfielders and forwards but the defence is bad. Said he doesn't understand how we've ended up with such a lopsided squad. The effort is there but it's hard to score goals without a solid back 4. And he hasn't got time to do much about it except try to give the players confidence. Definitely doesn't look like a man who's given up... but does look like one who is being realistic and not expecting much from tomorrow's game. To me, anyway.

  32. I know it's silly but I've noticed this quite a bit; whether it's a consequence of not going in as hard for 50/50s or what, or if it's just a confirmation bias, but I swear to god any time a ball bounces it spins favourably for the opposition. Like we'll take a shot and they'll block it with their shins and it'll somehow cannon out straight to their player for a chance on the break. On the flip side, we block one, goes right out of play or straight back to them.

  34. Not really, and maybe I worded it wrong to lay all the blame at his feet. It's just as much an indication of how awful we are as an attacking unit, He's often got no one in the box to get the ball to. It's not all his fault although he is often slightly too ball gready and will release the ball too late. He's the only player with a bit of flair though. God it's depressing.

  35. He had a dead leg, not a hamstring injury, at least according to Warnock. He also said he'd be shocked if he wasn't fit for tomorrow, though he may have to play with a bit of pain.

  36. I'd go with: GK: Stoj RB: Spence LB: Coulson CB: Moukoudi CB: Fry CDM: Clayton CDM: Howson AM: Morrison AM: Roberts AM: Tavernier CF: Fletcher Reasons being, We need to attack. Morrison showed he has a great touch and could pick out a pass if he had some movement in front of him. I'd like to think that Roberts, Tav and Fletch could provide that movement. Spence and Coulson provide width. Clayton and Howson provided added metal at the back. 4231 or 424 formation. I could be wrong and people might argue that this selection would ge

  39. Effort to me is going in where it hurts and making sure you are prepared to win 50/50 balls, when a QPR player is surrounded by 3 Boro players and manages to come away with the ball it doesn't sit well with me. Not just talking about the QPR game but I've lost count of the amount of times I've shouted, how the *** have they come away with the ball surrounded by Boro players. I've criticized Adam Clayton in the past because of his negative play but if you want someone who's prepared to get hurt to win the ball then he's the man, he'll battle, I don't see it with these other players. 40. I wouldn't have picked Johnson who can't defend, or Morrison a player who hasn't scored or done anything in years or Moukoudi in midfield who plays CB or not at all in my opinion. We needed to score goals and the 2 midfielders who are more than likely to do that ( Tav & Wing are sat on the bench. So no I didn't think it was a very positive starting 11.

  41. The top of the club needs an overhaul. Steve Gibson needs to accept he has made a lot of poor decisions in the last 4 years. Time to take a step back and let a DOF take control. Fundamentally Steve Gibson is not qualified to appoint football managers or shape a football club. He doesn't know what to look for or how to execute it.

  42. For me the best possible outcome is that SG remains chairman and handles finances etc but relinquishes most if not all control of the footballing decisions made at the club to an experienced DOF. Who can mould the club into the free-flowing and attacking style of football they want to play. However the reason I say he needs to go is how likely is that on a scale of 1-10? The club is all over the place and full of people who are inept at what they do and have been for years. We need - A experienced DOF - A experienced Manager who plays the way we want the club

  43. Well I can claim absolutely zero inside knowledge and don't even make a habit of reading the Gazette any more, but even a blind person could see that things are rotten at the club from top to bottom, based on most of the things p-mards mentioned in his original post. Player recruitment - an absolute joke the last few seasons. No obvious plan with regard to building a competent, balanced team, with adequate cover in all areas. Always seems to be late rush-jobs, getting anyone who's cheap / free and available. Or occasionally splurging on a "big name" thats out of favour at their club. Henc

  44. I’ll never understand why he backed Monk so strongly in the transfer market, asked him to bring attacking football back after the dour football in the PL (how we’d love that now!) and then sacked him before the end of the year. To then replace him with Pulis - who would never have wanted Monks players and alienated a fair few of them within weeks - was just ridiculous.

That was around 4 years ago and nothing has come close except maybe at home against Sheffield Utd last season - and look where they and we are now 😡.

  47. Garry Monk's transfer business in the Summer of 2017 set us back 2 or 3 years according to the Evening Gibson: https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tony-pulis-garry-monks-disastrous-17862203 It's beyond doubt that it caused us long term financial pressure, but it doesn't excuse Woodgate's underperformance. There's no direct criticism of anyone other than Garry Monk though. Look, look, it was all Monk's fault!. Lets all boo him!. Just look how terrible his gelled hair is!. There's no scrutiny of why Gibson authorised such a reckless transfer spend. I'm espec

  48. My personal opinion is we need new investment and a new direction. As good as Gibbo has been, every dog has his day and my head says Gibbo has had his. I think if things stay as they are, we are destined to be a league 1 team. This is just my gut feel on the personal "infrastructure" Gibbo has ultimately created.
