  1. Sorry to poke in. Do us a favour and take all the points, you know you want them. We could be 6th by Saturday afternoon, not that is of interest to you. Neil Harris still respected in our neck is tactically limited, certain Warnock can have one over them as he/you did to us. BTW we survived on 44 points last season, what's known as a**ehole lucky.

  4. Yeah we really should have bought domestically for the past few seasons. Who knows where we might have been now.

  5. We absolutely need to extend Fletchers contract. He is turning into a very good championship striker. That header at reading was top class. Another season or better like this one and his value will be around what we paid for him. Britt on the other hand needs to go if we can’t get him on a new and cheaper contract. But why would he sign a lesser contract? We can hope that Celtic well Eduard and renew their apparent interest but in any case we are not getting more than 5 million for him.

  6. People keep saying Warnock is basically Pulis 2.0, but I don't see that. He took a pretty ineffectual Cardiff side and got them promoted. He likes pace on the wings and getting balls into the box. Yes, he can set up a team to stifle the opposition, but so can Hughton and he's pretty well regarded as a manager. And saying we'd be stuck with Warnock's players when he leaves makes sense if you're talking about Aiden Flint and Gary Madine, but this is also the guy who signed Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett. Plus, he signed raw talents like Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Callum Paterson while he was

  7. I'm begging that we finally get a green away kit. Green is my favourite colour and I've wanted one my whole lifetime. Still angry the 1994-95 away kit didn't win the Boro Kit Cup.

  8. Let's not let clubs spend what they want. Not because it could give them an unfair advantage against those who do cut their cloth, nor because we want clubs to be punished for it to save ourselves, I think there's some on here that would be happy we survived because of a points deduction but still unwilling to let it lie that that's the only reason we survived. Let's not let clubs spend what they want because the reason they do it is to drastically increase their financial rewards with little concern about the risks. Why would anyone be against smarter spending by clubs when we've got exa

  9. We could go into administration We could be found guilty of being caught in a match fixing scandal which explains the form this season 😏 Assuming we dont get another point, Luton and Hull have to win their games, Charlton need a win. Huddersfield need at least 2 points and of a 4 goal swing Birmingham need to better our results including a 5 goal swing. Wigan to not get a points deduction or win both their games. The season could be decided on a raffle Magic We go out of business World War 3 kicks off but the FA have decided we could have fielded a team during th

  11. Boro v Cardiff Saturday 18th July, 3pm, Riverside Stadium The Form: Boro come into this one off the back of a victory after coming from behind. I know, I can't believe it either. Fletcher and Roberts hitting a goal in each half to cancel out Liam Moore's opener for Reading. Fletcher's goal was his 13th of the campaign, and he looks to be improving every season. Is the once highly rated youngster finally beginning to show some of his potential? Warnock now has a 50% record in his 6 games for Boro, with the Riverside club rising as high as 17th before tonight's kickoffs.

  14. There is a lot of nonsense in that middle paragraph Billy 🙂 the rules are there for everyone and as long as they are there it’s not “moaning” to expect the rules to be enforced. Clubs have already been punished under the rules so it should obviously be the same for everyone. You can’t just compare with rules 25 years ago. I think that it’s good, that the footballing authorities are trying to stop what’s happening at Wigan and what’s happened at Bolton, Portsmouth and Bury. But it’s difficult because there are so many clever financial people out there who are in it for a quick buck and couldn’t

  15. You look through his transfers at Cardiff he got some absolute gems compare his transfer record to Pulis' record at West Brom/Stoke it's clear Warnock's got a better eye for value and talent in my opinion. He's perfect for what we need and I remember the season Cardiff went up yes they defended deep but they absolutely terrified people on the counter attack with their pace they ran Wolves the best team I've seen in the Championship pretty close over the season. The bloke has proven if you give him scope and means to build his squad he wont break the bank and in Cardiff's case made every player

  16. If you read the rules, it says that the points deduction will be imposed at the end of the season if the clun hasnt already been relegated by normal means. If they are in the bottom three, the points will be deducted the following season and they will start off on -12 points. The only thing is they can appeal, which they have done and all relevant evidence of their reasons for appeal had to be in last Friday. I presume then that the appeal process is being carried out now.

  17. But that's the case for any managerial change. Sack Pep and hire Mourinho and the same would happen. The issue we have is reinventing the club, the philosophy and the identity every time the wind changes. Pulis to Warnock would have been a fine transition as it's just tweaking what's gone before. I think Warnock gives us a chance to build a solid foundation but that will all go out the window if after he leaves we go for revolution again.

  20. i think it is all a balancing act. The Cardiff team that Warnock took up had a mix of Journeyman so to speak. As did the Burnley team that went up year we went up. It also worked well for Brighton the following year when they had a similar mix. You just need to make sure you the balance right and dont overload the team with a particular type.

  22. I would like Wigan to stay up but not at our expense or expense of my nerves. Ideally i want a draw but if one team is to win I was rather it was Charlton. A Wigan loss would leave Wigan on 45pts and unable to catch us with 1 game left. That would mean Barnsley and Wigan could not catch us. And given its then Hull v Luton (both on 45pts) means whatever the result at least one team out them two cannot catch us meaning that would be 3 teams who could not catch us meaning we are safe regardless as are my nerves.
    1 point
  23. If. 😁 The long and short of it is we need to secure safety by our own means. Not rely on other results. So that means we NEED at least a point from our remaining games. Preferably tomorrow.

  25. I reckon it's gonna struggle to reach 10,000 fans if they distance people properly. I did some 'back of a fag packet' maths based only on the capacity and the number of 'numbered' blocks (which isn't very accurate I know as not all blocks have same number or seats but I couldn't find the exact values from a quick google). But say you divide the stadium by the blocks, that's 88. Round the answer up and each block estimates at around 400 seats. Let's say each block has 15 rows each. So each block row would have about 27 seats. If distancing is applied I think you're at least having eve

  26. Why would we want Reach? If he wasn’t a former boro player we wouldn’t discuss him. Very limited championship player with no real strength. Certainly not the pace we are crying out for.

  27. I was looking on a Sheff Wed forum the other day to see what was going on with their possible points deduction and there was a thread slating Reach. Apparently he's been poor for a while now and looks like he doesn't want to be there, so coupled with the fact that he's only got 1 year left on his contract, I doubt they'd be getting £3m for him. https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/290952-reach/ They also seem to think Monk is clueless, so I think we can trust their judgements 😁

  28. He's been on the scouting radar since Gary Monk days so definate interest there. Under Woody, in February it was more or less agreed for him to be coming back next season on loan, so I'd imagine that's still the case unless he gets permanent transfer elsewhere or the new manager doesn't want him. Like you said, I'd guess it will be Warnock next season as well even though personally I think it's the wrong appointment.

  29. Portsmouth didn’t land in their mess because of a points deduction. They landed in the mess because they spent beyond their means for too long and then had a crap owner who didn’t give a toss. The exact things that FFP is trying to avoid. I’m sure most Pompey fans would have liked to have FFP in force those years ago.

  30. Oh I definitely agree with you. I am not Britt's biggest fan either and he's been a complete waste of money but I think we haven't played to his strengths during his time here either. We isolate him and use him as a target man which isn't his strengths. He's a poacher and a nuisance. What annoys me with Britt's play especially under Pulis was he never split the defenders with his running and he never ran into the channels. People said that was Pulis tactics but he was the same at P'Boro and Forest. I'd like to see him given a run in the team with Fletcher or someone alongside h

  31. If Warnock stays then Britt won't leave. Warnock went all out to buy Britt for Cardiff in the January transfer window when they were in premiership and offered us Madine in exchange plus money. Pulis gave the nod for it to happen to Gibson put a block on it.

  32. We need his wages gone. He is not the sort of striker we need now. To keep him would not help us to progress. The problem is we might be lucky to find a buyer and he ends up going for nothing at the end of next season.

  33. Strange times when clubs are appealing against things which haven't officially happened yet! But good spot - I'd missed that story last week. And yes, it's a pretty feeble defence to complain about the pandemic putting Wigan into administration, when the takeover itself happened months after lockdown. It'd be like writing to British Gas three months after the apocalypse, complaining that your gas supply's been cut off.

  34. The absurdity is Wigan haven't even officially been given a points deduction yet, let alone appealed it or had it overturned. They're still 13th in the table. The EFL really couldn't organise the imbibing of alcoholic beverages in a liquor production facility. And don't get me started on Sheffield Wednesday's 12-or-21-or-nothing-at-all 'deduction'.

  35. I think Warnock will give you a limited squad, similarly to Tony Pulis. They would “do a job” but is it really what we want for the next 3 years? When Warnock goes then we are left with his signings. Just like Pulis they either fit or they don’t. That means you are risking more wages being wasted by being sat on the bench. We can’t afford to do this when embarking on a squad build. This is what let’s us down as a club. What is our long term strategy? No one knows. We haven’t got a director of football here to make those kinds of decisions. Now is the perfect time to replace one which

  36. To me it looks like we are all but safe and I hope it it guarnteed with some points against Cardiff. Some decent performances and results could set the mood for next season, and will be nice to be safe going in the last game to give Warnock a free hit to try anyone and anything.

  38. It would be very difficult. Essentially, one of Hull or Luton are going down, they can't both catch us, the last spot we would need to lose both games AND have all of Charlton, Huddersfield, whoever isn't relegated out of Hull/Luton & Wigan to pick up enough points to hit 50 at least. Not impossible, but unlikely. The maximum points the teams can reach are thus: Barnsley - 49 Luton - 51 Hull - 51 Wigan - 51 Charlton - 53 Huddersfield - 54 BUT, as we noted, Luton & Hull play each other AND Charlton & Wigan play each other. Wigan, Luton & Hu

  39. Can't think of many games where Spence has played well as a right back. Every single occasion people have raved about him, it's been solely because he looked vaguely threatening going forwards. Even though I'd be happy to keep him, I don't think he'd be that difficult to replace.

  40. This is what I mean by a "3 year rolling period".
    1 point
  41. There is no 3 year cycle. It is a 3 year rolling period. So the figures from our first season back in the Championship, are no longer being used in the current 3 year period. So we may have some leeway, but I suspect the loss of TV money (£35 Million) this season may on the other hand hamper us.

  42. Well, A draw on Saturday is definitely enough Barnsley and either Hull or Luton are definitely going to finish behind us. Barnsley can only get 49 points now. Luton and Hull play Saturday. If they draw, they will both finish lower than Boro, with maximum 49 points each and we are definitely safe even if we lose on Saturday.. If there is a winner then the loser can only get 48 points and finishes lower than Boro, The winner can only get 51 points and have vastly inferior goal differences to Boro, so a draw for us keeps us safe. By the time we play, we will also know result of

  44. Fry leaves now and we are left with no CBS at all... I'd more inclined to sell Spence with a sell on clause. Spence is nowhere near £10million player. Good going forward but defensively he is shocking, yes he can improve on that but given that he was wanting a move back to London previously then I would take the money and rebuild the squad with quality and experience as that's what this club requires.

  45. I'm always hesitant of accepting any value for a player when the argument is "We can use that money to replace them and better". Some of you haven't been paying attention to our transfer dealings, have you? What gives anyone the idea that putting money into our recruitment finances is going to lead to a net positive in terms of players in our squad? If we were smart, we'd be willing to sell players with a high value with a longer term strategy behind big money. As it is, we'll sell to give Warnock funds to work with. Then in a year's time when he's gone and those players aren't what we ne

Some positives here despite the score  - Southampton haven't really created anything asides the goal. Especially good considering the makeshift defence.  - Jones very busy and dangerous - azaz continues to look a real threat when he gets around the 18 yard box. Doesn't happen enough.  - no drury trying desperately to be maddos best mate - had the best of the 2nd half of the 1st half couple of better decisions in the final 3rd and wed be level.
