  1. EFL Cup - Middlesbrough v Barnsley, 6pm Tuesday 15th September Scene 1: Int (Daytime) [A café table at Scotch Corner Services. Neil Warnock is eating a full English breakfast when a man in dark glasses and a raincoat sidles up and sits in the seat behind him, back to back.] WARNOCK: Ey up, lad. SCOUT: Don’t turn around. We’ll talk like this. WARNOCK: Oh God, not this Breaking Bad cosplay again. Just tell us what you found out about Barnsley before I put something in your tea. SCOUT [sighing]: You’re no fun any more. You should have retired back in the Eighties. [He pulls out

  7. I sincerely hope he wasn't refusing to use subs to make a point. There were points up for grabs. I'd say it's more likely he didn't feel the subs would improve us, which is a pretty damning indictment of Coulson and Bola at the very least, given that Johnson couldn't get in the game at all. I seriously hope Coulson gets his chance in the Barnsley game as it's a bit pathetic that probably our best young player last season can't get a game for this manager because he sees something in Johnson at full back that literally none of the rest of us can.

  8. It's clear you're not a fan but I can't think of many examples where he has been the weak link for us, likewise Saville. So it would be nice to see your working out

  9. his role requires risk. He was in and around the box on mutliple occasions - that's part of the wingback role. Dijsteel is there as part of the back 3 to cover as needed if Spence is commited forward and can't get back. plus Spence has plenty of time to improve his overall game, and he's only had half a season as wing-back

  10. Not those pre-packaged, shop bought ones though. Good, high quality homemade hash browns are the way forward. Hash browns that are the size of a giant's palm and need their own plates

  11. Good choice They once played Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup and lost 2-3 at home.. Then this happened

  12. Inspired by our Danish friends @SmogDane and @Borodane I have decided to follow a Danish club this season. My pick was Odense Boldklub (OB) as I remember playing as them years ago on football manager. First game of the season they are 2-0 up against Copenhagen.. i must be a lucky charm!

  13. "Spence gave a great impersonation of a Now TV Stick, great when connected but prone to losing signal and dropping out." Glad it's not just me then! Particularly prone to dropping out if I put the microwave on - have to remember to make my cuppa at half time 😀 Not likely to improve but Spence probably will

  18. It's likely not Boro related, and even if it is Gibson himself, he's not short a few quid.

  19. I think your right there. It’s clear he wants a Target Man (Moore, Zahore) and a pacey striker (Sanogo, Bonne). It’s going to be interesting these next few weeks, I can see us acting fast because if Britt or Fletch get injured we have no one... Bobby Wood is a player I’d look at, he’s mentioned in that article too.

  21. I hope you're right. I've always thought Warnock was one of those guys who just spoke his mind and didn't try to make points or feed the media by not managing games to the best of his ability. Then again, maybe he has been talking to Gibson and not liked the responses he has got? We can only speculate of course, but I would hope he is more honourable than to play silly games.

  22. I think they are going to play against very different teams to Liverpool but goodness me, the only team that looked like winning for long periods today were Leeds. They never took the lead but they never stopped going. 37 to go but if they perform like that every week, they'll be comfortably mid table. But then, if Liverpool defend like that for another 37 games then they'll really struggle to retain the title.

  24. You are both obviously suffering from Mane-ic depression....the only cure is to repeat the phrase "Pulis is God" one hundred times before going to sleep while watching videos of Phil Whelan impersonating Frank Sinatra....Good luck It should be clearly understood that this does not make you feel better ,,,,but it certainly helps to understand how much worse it could be

  26. Here's an even better question but it's quite a long one. Why did we sign Bamford and Gestede for a manager that didn't want them at the time, then 6 months later, appoint a different manager who also didn't want them, and allow that manager to spend nearly £30m on three more strikers, then sack him 6 months later, and appoint the next manager who didn't want any of those three, and wasn't that fussed about the other two either?

  27. Bigger question is why did we hand Patrick Bamford and Britt Assombalonga to Tony Pulis whoever made that decision needs looking into by the CPS because that was criminal.

  28. We signed van la parra and had Jack Harrison under pulis and he refused to entertain the possibility of playing them. He wanted to play the way he did.

  29. Not sure if anyone's picked up on it but Warnock has basically ripped the Sheff U system and implemented it here, look at how often McNair/Dijksteel get forward to midfield positions as our midfielders push onto the oppositions backline or overlap our wingback when there's a gap. Fletcher's the McGoldrick running and dropping into wherever space is, the main problem for me is our wingbacks are shocking and for it to work you need consistent delivery from them that's where it's falling apart for us in attack right now.

  30. I’m sure given Warnock age and experience he does his talking directly man to man and not through media.. I don’t read to much in what journalists speculate.

  31. Thought 2nd half neither side were causing many problems in the final 3rd, a couple of routine saves from Foster but that's about it. I can't get away with Saville offers very little to the midfield, just my opinion. Same old same old, crying out for a creative midfielder or 2, its like a stuck vinyl record.

  32. Agreed, despite all their missing forwards, that is a top quality defence they have and I think they'll nullify a lot of teams. They have arguably the best GK in the league & probably one of the best groups of CBs IMO.

  33. Yes I agree Watford were very organised their back 3 yesterday was very good, their defence is probably the best in the league. Craig Cathcart is an international with plenty of Premier league and championship experience, Christian Kabasele gets in the Belgium squad occasionally and Wilmot is an England under 21 player who had a decent season on loan at Swansea last season, their Wing backs were Kiko (who in fairness is a right back that played left back lastnight) is a very good player at this level and has played at Real Madrid and Barcelona, the young lad Ngakia was getting into West Hams

  34. Might be just me but I thought Britt ran and chased last night and fought for everything. Fletcher was a little more anonymous but still put in a shift. Howson scrapped, snarled, fought and battled in midfield. Saville looked off the pace for whatever reason and going down needing treatment just after the second half had started seemed strange, maybe there was something untoward underlying. Dijksteel was superb but also I thought that McNair had a good game although Hall looks seriously off the pace and is now causing some concern. If he can't get up to speed quickly we will need another

  35. Aye, I remember when everyone thought Clayton shouldn't be in the team going into the promotion season, that Forshaw should be alongside Leadbitter instead. I liked Forshaw, thought he was a good fit for our midfield but didn't quite have the same crunchiness that Clayton provided. Clayton's passing was fine, people just thought he couldn't pass beyond 5 yards because those were primarily the passes he was asked to make to keep it simple in midfield.

  36. I know Clayton wasn't Makelele and now he's not the player he was, but he got totally underrated on this board as well. He was as good as anyone in the division for a couple of seasons and that wasn't just for his tackling ability, he could play as well.

  37. Why not give 4-3-3 a try in the cup? One of the strikers with Browne and Folarin either side

  38. Not me, I'm disappointed every season we don't challenge for play offs or promotion. Unrealistic expectations I know, but like I say, I play football to win.

  39. Pulis appreciation group because he gets results when he didn't get the results required of him is the weirdest thing. Like, if he got us promoted or even looked like doing it, then fair enough. But he didn't. He didn't just get pelters because of his crap football, he also didn't do the job he was getting handsomely paid to do either.

  40. I don't know mate, it's not so much the individual as his beliefs that I'm interested in I suppose. I think the club should have certain core beliefs or philosophies and every manager we appoint should be of the same mind. So for me, I want to see good football, I want to see our young players promoted, and given lots of opportunities to succeed (and fail) if necessary. I would love to see coaching, proper developmental coaching, at the heart of everything we do. Seems to be less and less of that these days around football in general, and that seems really short-sighted to me. I want to b

I should clarify i dont mean we should play out every single time. That would just be ridiculous if men are not available/being pressed but playing out from the back should certainly be the first port of call and if not available then try something else if thats the way MC wishes to play.

Just as well or we would have been hammered

We played more long balls against Ipswich than Man City did against Madrid 😂

I watched Man City v Real Madrid the other night and neither of those sides played tippy tappy in their own box the way we do. They both played it long if they were pressed. I presume you would include those two amongst the elite teams? Playing the ball around in your own box does not work for any team ever 🤷‍♂️

So if lets say dieng plays it out long down the channels and they opposition get possession and 30 seconds later they score, I dont see how that is any better? By kicking it long we are more likely to concede possession quicker than playing it out the back. Each to their own but there is a reason why so many elite teams across the world now play this way. And its all good saying players who are not at that level should not be doing so but all professional players can be taught this. Its just more high risk but clearly the rewards are greater as well.
