In the current climate I could definitely see that happening. He may have made a lot of mistakes, but he has stuck with the club through thick and thin...when other owners might have asset-stripped the club and done a runner, or just let us go into administration (again).6 points

We need a left back more than we need a right back. In fact we need a left back more than we need a centre back, as we quite clearly don't have an adequate one in the squad, at least as far as Warnock is concerned. If Johnson can play as badly as he has, and not get hooked, then Warnock's opinion of the other two must be on a par with his opinion of Michel Barnier.4 points

He's been in the team for 6 months, don't we know that's the length of time he needs to make the role his own? We should sell him for a tenner, no chance he'll ever improve now. In all seriousness, I don't think he's started this season well but he's hardly alone there, is he? Like most others, he did improve against Bournemouth. Can't see why he'd be the wing back you'd single out though. Marvin Johnson has more than half a career's more experience than every other full back we have, he's unlikely to improve and yet our manager thinks he's the dog's ***. Spence, Dijksteel, Coulson and Bo3 points

There are far more Boro fans than post on this forum, and Spence has been massively overhyped since he broke through. He's not done much in a while to justify it, but he's a young player with a bit of pace and I'm more confident in him improving than Johnson.2 points

What?! Johnson has been far, FAR worse as an option than Spence has! I don't criticise any of the 3 players mentioned (except from a couple valid points about Claytons legs at times, but DS will tell you I was his number one fan on this forum). Spence did alright defensively vs Bournemouth and his ability in a back 4 not only can improve, but isn't terribly relevant in a season where we're likely to play 352 for 90+% of the time. AND he wasn't even that bad going forward either. He appears to be scared to try and take people on at the moment for some reason, whether that's an2 points

Nah - the Ewoks were able to take down much bigger opponents. Neil Bausor as Admiral Ackbar? "Don't sign for us - its a trap!" Woody as Anakin Skywalker...supposed to be our saviour but ended up causing great misery and suffering... EDIT: Oh and Neil Warnock has to be Yoda, right? "Play direct you will, hmmm?"2 points

I guess it depends what the ideal world is. If it's just to have the best possible players at any one time, sure. But that costs money so adjusted for our situation, it would absolutely be ideal for us to find a quality young player in our U23 ranks ready to make the step up and build him up to be better. We aren't going to buy anyone significantly better than him. The frustration with Johnson is a lot of us think we have better than him already in our ranks and he's not getting a chance under this manager. With Spence, his only other challenger is also in the side.1 point

We may be "forced" to play this formation but why not accept it. It's ok saying we need wingers and attacking midfielders but to play Warnock's favoured 433, at the back (with full backs who'd push on) we would need a specialist left footed CB. Who would you play LB out of Bola, Coulson and Johnson, as none of them can really defend well. So theres a left back. You'd need 3 or more wingers to cover injuries and suspensions. You'd then have Britt, Fletch or Chuba playing up front alone, which doesn't really suit any of them. So you'd probably need another striker. Admittedly some of these1 point

He could sign Myra Hindleys ashes and some Boro fans would still think he's building something special, San Jose is the only half decent signing he's made1 point

In an ideal world neither Spence or Johnson would be in the first eleven, but we're not in an ideal world and nobody is buying our players to give us that extra freedom in the market.1 point

just what we need an aging injury prone player that could replace the aging injury prone players we've just got rid of....not to mention that he has an assist rate of one every eight games, calls Juninho Lofty and one of his forenames is Jonah (never a good omen)... but then Swansea don't want to keep him on, so there couldn't possibly be a reason for that.... mind you it would make a good alteration to thread title....Boro in Dyer Straits 🙂1 point

Shame we didn't bring Karanka back like he seems to be building something at Birmingham. I would of liked San Jose in our midfield top player.1 point

Mate, Brooks did sod all down the right and it was very little to do with Johnson. He wasn't even more disciplined, he got forward and had plenty more opportunities to cross than Spence did. And it either didn't beat the first man or it was blazed beyond the players or over the bar on one or two occasions too. There was a free kick we took quickly whilst a Bournemouth player complained about the foul, Johnson was entirely free, had a good 10-15 yards to take his time and pick the players out. He put it behind the goal, he didn't even get it into the box. It was abysmal. When it comes to S1 point

That's fine I haven't taken it as a dig. Of course stats can be misleading. But I think in the right context (which is important) they can certainly help either shape an opinion or backup what you have seen firsthand. Personally you need a balance of visually seeing things within a game of football, and also the statistics to back that up or disprove, if you catch my drift. Didn't Spence have Danjuma to cover in the Bournemouth game? (who I think is also a very good player, much like Brooks). I wasn't able to see the Bournemouth game in full, so I cannot pass much judgement on Spence/John1 point

Statistically (if you believe them), Johnson and Spence have made the same amount of tackles (5), the same amount of interceptions (3) too. Spence has a slightly lower tackle %. They've both blocked the same amount of crosses too (1). Johnson has a pass completion of 50%, Spence has a pass completion of 65%. They've both made the same amount of key passes (1). They've both made the same amount of successful crossed (1), but Spence has a successful cross % almost double Johnson's. Just some unbiased stats, to show actually statistically they are similar as it stands.1 point

Just wait until until a couple of defeats and people will talk about trying square pegs in round holes with Dijksteel as CB. Dijksteel has had 2 decent performances at CB as has Mcnair so to say they are better CB's than Fry is completely laughable and a joke. I agree Fry isnt a left sided CB and he would probably agree. (but again here comes the criticism of our homegrown players - absolute joke). Wait until McNair and Dijksteel come up against a striker like Denney, Keifer Moore and you will see exactly why they are not CB's. McNair is our best CM imo and wasted as CB, that sh1 point

Thats fair enough but most people always put new wingers in there team and its pretty obvious we arnt gonna get one of them never mind 2. I just think feel that were gonna be playing wingbacks all season. And id thats the case i domt think the 2 we have are good enough. If we get another centre back id like to see djicksteel play there and 100%beed another LWB1 point

Yeah mate, I did post a handwritten one with the results on the Week 1 post (and will do again this week) but I'm working on getting the computer to do it to save me time. Will have this week's up tomorrow. Sorry dude, this season is a work in progress 😂. I'm learning stuff I need to implement either throughout this season or next year to male my life easier and just neaten/quicken it up as I know I'm running a bit slower than MM but bear with me and it'll all go smoothly eventually1 point

I reckon its early season enthusiasm. The players are still fresh and keen to impress their managers and I guess they're wanting to find out where they stand in the pecking order. I reckon by Christmas things will have calmed down a bit as fatigue and injuries start to bite, as well as managers having a better idea of who they can attack with relative freedom and who they need to try and defend against.1 point

After the international break and upon our return to action on 17th Oct I noticed we play Sat & Tues every single week right up until 19th Dec minus the 2 week international in Nov. So from 17th Oct to 7th Nov we play 7 games in 21 days. Then from 21st Nov to 19th Dec its 9 games in 28 days. We need a minimum of 2 more players imo. If not 3. And that is without losing anyone 3 extra players would give us a squad of 23. i do not include Pears, Brynn Folarin and Walker in that 23.1 point

Looking at the Premiership scores I have to ask, are they more focused on scoring more then the opponent and sacrifice defensive play, or is it just because it’s the start of the season. The pace of attacking play is extraordinary. I can’t remember seeing so many goals in the past. Some decent score lines in the Championship to be fair.1 point

Anyone see Coventry beat QPR? I hope Mark Robin's keeps setting them up like he didn't in their League One campaign and the first 2 games this season. For those that may not be aware, Coventry set up with a midfield that resembles a square. They have two deep midfielders and two number 10s, so effectively a square of midfielders. They play 3 at the back, 2 wingbacks, the square or box midfield then 1 up top.1 point

As someone who has watched more than one person go through chemo and surgeries, I am amazed that he has been knocking out movies at the rate he has in the last 4 years. Cancer and the treatments it requires both suck the energy out of you, so to have gotten into the shape he had to just to appear in films like Da 5 Bloods and Black Panther must have taken a massive toll on his body. Thought Chris Evans' tribute of "Rest in Power, King" was particularly apt given what a fighter he must have been so I will echo that notion here.1 point

Leicester have been totally outplayed and are winning 2-0 now, hahah. Beat Leeds and we're 6 points off the play-offs with 2 to play 😂 Obviously we have no chance of overcoming that gap, but it'd be nice to still have a little something to play for. -

Questions -  What team would you pick? Dieng Jones McNair VDB Clarke Bangura O’Brien Azaz Howson Latte Lath Silvera  What's your favourite thing about Leeds? The countryside that surrounds it. I’ve got family in Rawdon and Yeadon and it’s beautiful around those parts  What are the odds on Bamford cheating yet again? It’s odd because he never cheated when he played for us! 👀  Will we derail their promotion push even further? I’d like them to go up, I hate playing them, but I bet we draw with them.  -

The issue isn't playing out from the back, the issue is decision making on when, where and how. If the opponents are closing, down, swarming and pressurising it can be effective by unlocking them and catching them up field however it is also far more likely to result in being bullied out of possession, putting us at risk or as we seen recently a poor ball to O'Brien leaving us stuffed. Having outlets making and creating space and time is crucial whether you play out from the back or go long. Simply hoofing it isn't the answer any more than playing a suicide ball to a player being rapidly closed down 20 yards out from our own goal. It's not the tactic that's at fault, it's the application and implementation of it which comes down to the skill, intelligence, awareness and ability of individuals. Chuba was great at holding the ball up and playing in team mates, we don't have that skill set this season and it's showed, having a Giles to be unleashed down the left hasn't been available this season, both were key to how we played last season. The loss of those outlets haven't helped us and those are just two examples. That said with the speed of Jones and ELL, playing it long can also be a serious threat to our opposition but neither tactic will work if players aren't looking up, alert and aware of their next pass/movement and to me that is the biggest difference between last season's passing it out from the back and this season. We passed out at speed and with cutting accuracy last season, this year we seem less confident, hesitant, slow and have created more problems for ourselves on many occasions because of it. The massive summer upheaval in personnel hasn't helped and confidence and belief won't have helped with the start to the season that ensued. I'm sure many of the new signings were less than convinced as we set that record poor start statistic. Over time it's improved but nowhere close to our ability to pass out that we had last season, hence the frustrations and discussions.
