  1. Pulis has done so much damage to this club we had Jack Harrison who is doing it in the premiership he had Bamford who is doing it yet he couldn't get a tune out of them. He flogged Bamford off for Flint and Saville even brought Hugill in 🤣. The guy was an utter clown done as much damage as Strachan did.

  2. I can't believe people are trying to justify us selling Bamford. It was a ridiculous decision at the time, and appears even more so now. I'm genuinely struggling to work out a single decision that Pulis made in his time at the club that has benefited the club in the long term. The signing of McNair is probably the only one that might qualify.

  3. Everything that came out at the time was carefully worked out to make Plus, Bamford, and Boro all look like they got what they wanted. In reality, only one of them did. And it wasn't Paddy.

  4. I don't remember a lot of people being happy with it to be honest. Bamford was a player we courted after he left after his first loan spell because we knew what he was capable of and still expected he could make it at the top level. I know that, despite the fact he didn't solve our issues in the Prem, having him in the squad going into the Championship and having him as part of our own long-term future was huge for some people, myself included. I thought Bamford and Middlesbrough were going to be synonymous for the rest of his career, we had finally got him where he needed to be to succeed aft

  5. Free transfer. Pace to burn, very tricky, can play anywhere across the front but is primarily a winger. Young. I dont think we have anyone like this. For me, its a no brainer if the wages are within budget.

  6. It isn't hindsight, Bamford was clearly the best striker at the club except for one reason or another Pulis refused to accept it. When he got a run in the side it was Bamford's goals that fired us into the Play Offs that Pulis then surrendered in a spineless two legged embarrassment. I'd be interested to know if there was anything in Pulis's contract that saw him benefit from cash raised from sales.

  7. @Tom Selling Bamford wasn't the ridiculous idea, buying Britt was when we already had Bamford.

  8. Dijksteel as a centre-back in a two would be hugely concerning to me. He'd have to win a lot more of his aerial battles, right now that's not really his area or where he's getting challenged, he is half a centre-back and half a right-back, he's covering the opposition's left side channel in order to keep Spence higher up the pitch, he's also able to step up into midfield and out wide in this formation we're playing right now and he's not gonna be able to do that in a back 4.

  10. His agent is on Twitter and jumps on the defensive every time Pulis' Boro tenure comes up. He always trots out the line about the league positions as though the players were the Renford Rejects rather than a multi-million pound squad that had a wealth of Championship and Premier League experience. I have no doubt that Pulis and his representatives think he succeeded here.

  11. without a hint of irony at all, he probably thinks he left the club in a better position than he found it too. The only positive I can say about him is that our league positions were pretty credible under him but they got worse as his tenure went on, he decimated the squad, lowered the morale of players and fans and generally sucked the soul out of the club

  12. I had to laugh on Saturday while I was watching him on Soccer Saturday. He was covering the Derby v Blackburn game and was talking about Mowbray and the job he was doing there. I can't remember the quote word for word, but after praising him he said something about playing the right players in the right positions 🙂

  13. Would be a decent end to the window if we can land Green, Roberts and a defender. Doesn't look like we are in for new LWB's and RWB's so let's just pray that Spence, Johnson and Coulson can get better as the season progresses.

  14. Gibson said pulis did a good job. So maybe he was just reducing our wage bill like he was asked to do. my point is we were a badly run club long before pulis came in. People need to stop using pulis as an excuse to give Gibson and co a free ride

  15. no i have issues with how COB stereotype and talk about immigrants and refugees as sub human, and the blatant racism on the forum. I'm disgusted with the blantant explotation of vicitms to support islamaphobic views, whether peadophiles or terrorism - the posters are only interetsed in racism, never constructive discussion. and i'll tell you this for sure, most of the population would be disgusted by COB and some of its posters.

  17. When it comes to the off the pitch stuff I have zero doubt I could have done a better job than pulis if he actually did have a hand in it. If we needed to raise money then selling our 3 best players was hardly rocket science was it. The way I’d have bettered what Pulis did would have been to not pay half the money back out on the likes of flint and saville. Its not even hindsight, half of us at the time applauded flints goal record but also asked the question could he actually defend? The answer was no. Saville was clearly a 2nd ball in the box merchant who clearly wasn’t going

  19. I was of this opinion but our wingbacks are proving to be ineffective (Spence is inconsistent and Johnson is just bad again) and that can't happen in a 352. We looked good when we changed to the 433 at the weekend, so maybe we do need to investigate that again...

  20. This is definitely not what several of us on here heard at the time... That's pretty much the PR spin to a tee.

  21. Why are you playing Howson at RB when Dijksteel was bought to play RB? You've left Fry out to accommodate that arrangement too.

  24. Well pulis took credit for taking control of everything and that he was helping improve the club from top to bottom. Youd assume, as manager, that would include transfers. Also, Saville and flint are the all graft and physical qualities over footballing ability type players that pulis has bought for his entire career. You can't seriously think he didn't want us to sign them?

  28. Don't think he is accusing you of being a racist or bigot, Ozzy..his point is that COB apparently is happy to let people express extremist views that he finds morally repugnant...but then that begs the question of whether it is better to discuss problems of that nature in balanced way ..or just try to shame them into behaving in a way that is acceptable...that rarely works ... I have been lucky enough to see attitudes begin to change a little, but every time you think progress is being made, some politician starts spouting about "them" coming and taking all our jobs etc, just to get their na

  31. The two are worlds apart. Hughton isn't an adventurous manager by any means but he was still playing creative players like gross, knockaert, march izquierdo and jahanbakhsh every game. Pulis played traore and that was it. When traore was left he literally played without a creative player while hughton played every game with at least 2 of the above, normally 3. Its the same response when people say karanka was defensive like pulis. Different planets. Yes ak wanted solidity first and foremost but he still always played 3 creative attackers (though this reduced to 2 in the prem) behin

  32. hes his mate and at the time he probably thought he was doing the job that was asked of him but Steve needs to take a step back and look at whats actually happening once in a while, rather than be obsessed with picking fights with agents and other chairmen

  33. He litteraly came into the club and sold all our talent replacing it with garbage. Then he jumped ship left all the rebuild to Woody.

  34. Hope it works out for him.....can just imagine the newspaper lads preparing their stories about him "having a blinder" or helping Villa to victory....just hope that he doesn't end up with a team-mate called Hardy...I know that it it every players dream to pay at the highest level possible...but at his age, I think regular first team football is better than being a squad guy at one of the money clubs

  35. Fair play to that guy, he seems genuinely invested. I hope it works out for them, they don't deserve the *** they've had to deal with!

  38. No it isn’t. We accepted an offer for him and he was basically forced out by Pulis and Bausor.

  39. @Tom not disagreeing with you, just saying why spend £15m + wages when we already had a striker who could get us promoted, the money could have been used on bringing in a decent manager in the first place to evolve AK's squad not start again.

  40. Perhaps the second part of your statement is true, but that doesn't change the fact that selling Bamford when we did was a huge misstep, both at the time and in hindsight.

  41. I really hope so. He was one of our brighter lights in the mess that was last season. The lad at least deserves a chance to show what he can do.

  42. Bamford demanded assurances that he would be first choice when fit. he never got them. He then, through his representatives, engineered a move away. This is how it went from start to finish of his exit process.

  43. Well if it’s been disclosed (by the club) and is in the public domain then post it up. I’m very happy to be proved wrong. It’s not unusual for selling clubs to add the fee received from the buying club to the money saved on the players wages over the remainder of the contract (had he stayed) and say the deal was worth the sum of the two ie in a deal ‘worth’ £10m, 6.5m + 0.5m in add ons to buy the players registration, and £3m saved on wages which we no longer have to pay = £10m. It makes the fans feel better that they haven’t just sold a top player on the cheap.

  47. Milan? Bloody hell, Arsenal, Milan, AGF Horsey? Can't you lot just support Boro and accept your lot in life ffs? Football isn't supposed to be fun, it's supposed to crush your spirit until all that's left is a shell of a person, all bitter and twisted and bereft of any hope.

The issue isn't playing out from the back, the issue is decision making on when, where and how.  If the opponents are closing, down, swarming and pressurising it can be effective by unlocking them and catching them up field however it is also far more likely to result in being bullied out of possession, putting us at risk or as we seen recently a poor ball to O'Brien leaving us stuffed. Having outlets making and creating space and time is crucial whether you play out from the back or go long. Simply hoofing it isn't the answer any more than playing a suicide ball to a player being rapidly closed down 20 yards out from our own goal. It's not the tactic that's at fault, it's the application and implementation of it which comes down to the skill, intelligence, awareness and ability of individuals. Chuba was great at holding the ball up and playing in team mates, we don't have that skill set this season and it's showed, having a Giles to be unleashed down the left hasn't been available this season, both were key to how we played last season. The loss of those outlets haven't helped us and those are just two examples. That said with the speed of Jones and ELL, playing it long can also be a serious threat to our opposition but neither tactic will work if players aren't looking up, alert and aware of their next pass/movement and to me that is the biggest difference between last season's passing it out from the back and this season. We passed out at speed and with cutting accuracy last season, this year we seem less confident, hesitant, slow and have created more problems for ourselves on many occasions because of it.  The massive summer upheaval in personnel hasn't helped and confidence and belief won't have helped with the start to the season that ensued. I'm sure many of the new signings were less than convinced as we set that record poor start statistic. Over time it's improved but nowhere close to our ability to pass out that we had last season, hence the frustrations and discussions.

I'd quite happily take a draw now, it keeps them down, keeps the unbeaten run going and keeps things very interesting in the promotion race.
