  1. Will be interesting to see how this lad progresses. Has made huge strides in a short space of time.

  2. Hi all hope you dont mind me posting here, wasn't sure if there was a topic for history or past players. Found this pic recently of Wilf Mannion (left) playing an exhibition match in the "Mardyke" in Cork, Ireland in 1953.

  3. This is part of the problem though, isn’t it? I would be that in 10 or 20 years, maybe a lot less, BAME will be deemed as unacceptable as previous terms are now. The fact is that whatever term is used now, will be used in a derogative manner by some people and this will lead it to become off limits to a new generation. When I was growing up the charity Scope had a different name, coming from the medical definition related to cerebral palsy. Kids used the shortened version to insult someone and so the word became offensive - but whatever the charity had been called would have had the same resu

  4. People of colour is frowned upon as well I believe. I just call all men gadge and all women sexybum to avoid any issues of offending anyone 👍

  5. Also gay is a choice. You won’t believe the amount of girls I’ve tried chatting up that have decided to be gay just at that same moment. Talk about rotten timing 🤷‍♂️

  6. I'm leaning towards NW having a clear plan with Roberts. He's kept Bola and Coulson out for a long time while he's been here and suddenly they are in the lineup several games in a row. He puts a lot of emphasis on how the players behave in training and perhaps Roberts really needs to step it up a notch and not think he's going to automatically be first choice because he is a high earner on loan from City and he gets the fans on their feet. I doubt Warnock is keeping him on the bench in spite. And if he doesn't think Roberts is strong enough yet it doesn't help playing him if it's just going to

  7. The Government should've gone hard on this current lockdown being with the express aim of being able to give people as normal of a Christmas as possible. Giving people a target to aim towards is a positive public health message that people are far more likely to agree with and conform to that just an open ended lockdown again.

  8. My granded grew up with Mannion at South Bank St Peter's. They used to play in the same position and unfortunately my grandad wasn't quite the same standard as Wilf. My grandad said Wilf would often feign injury to allow my grandad to play.

  9. Think the ex-Wigan manager Paul Cook is a decent shout. Along with the Cowley brothers and Lee Johnson.

  10. If this was an isolated comment, I'd agree that Clarke simply made a mistake. Unfortunately he has made previous comments (surrounding other minority groups, women and people of the LGBT community), whilst those comments were not overly racist or sexist they do enforce that he has some fairly dated views. Unfortunately this is a part of a wider problem, where there is, an almost, unwillingness from some quarters to learn, educate and adapt (update) their world view, because it was acceptable to harbour dated views in the past. As a nation we have moved on, and people have to mov

  11. At the risk of getting totally lambasted here I thought it was an unfortunate tripping over his words. We know that the term ‘coloured’ is dated and been replaced with people of colour but he apologised (to what seemed to me) earnestly and we should have moved on. Obviously the World Wide Web would have demanded his resignation anyways so did he jump before he was pushed? I also know very little about G Clarke so if he has form for this then good riddance. I’m happy to be educated on this

  12. A lovely humble man... once asked him if he envied the money modern footballers earned and he said no....just happy he was able to enjoy a career doing something he loved, claimed he wasn't even the best footballer in his family

  13. If he took over at Yeovil, would that be "Monk He's Gone to Devon"? (Yeah, I'm a bit of a Pixies fan too)

  14. I think, or perhaps hope, that there is something to this. I think given the position we're in that he's perhaps earned the benefit of the doubt for now. But he also has to accept that we've not long since had a manager who kept making excuses not to play somebody who can give him something he says he needs. Warnock is his own man, though and maybe we should give him a little more time on this front given that we are still hanging around the positions we should be in. If it all goes pear shaped and nothing changes on the Roberts front, I think quite a lot of Boro fans are going to be suit

  16. There shouldn't be any decision lines available at all. VAR was introduced to stop clear mistakes not to over analyse every decision. The video ref just needs to look at a freeze frame and decide if he thinks it looks offside or not and that's it. If it's clearly off it will be given, if it's not then it won't.

  17. A 6" or 15cm error margin to allow for when the ball is kicked (as per ScarBoro's description above) and the movement of bodies needs to be introduced. The Offside rule was designed for split second instinctive and intuitive reactions from Linesmen not for finely tuned technology. More often than not the Lino made the right call but VAR has become farcical. I'm now waiting for a well endowed player to be given offside because his left one was in full flight or because he wasn't wearing the regulation spandex undergarment. Are they going to punish to the same criteria in Ladies Football or

  18. In anything but offside, it doesn’t deal with absolutes though - does it? For fouls there is often a degree of subjectivity. Did he catch him or not? Sometimes they need to look at slow motion from a lot of angles and even then you have disagreements from pundits and ex referees as to whether a particular incident was a foul or not. Then the referee gets final say - which is how it should be. Similarly for handballs - did it brush his arm or come totally off his chest? even with offside, they are trying to make it absolutes when in reality it can’t be. When is the pass made - is it when t

  19. Warnock has built a solid spine in the Team from an experienced and very vocal Goalkeeper to a defensive back line in front of him that is the tightest in the EFL. Bringing in the tenacity of Morsy with the experience of Howson and the savvy Saville who can maybe nick the odd goal (which is what he was actually bought for in the first place) provides a very strong and dominant midfield that don't get bossed about or brushed aside in games. In the matches that we have played so far our Midfield has for most of the time been on top which in turn takes massive pressure off the defence. The

  20. So you’d rather draw 3-3 then win 1-0? When I watch footy on TV, it’s for entertainment, but when it comes to my own team I couldn’t give a toss about entertainment. Results no matter the cost.

  22. The Boro U23s and U18s are top of their respective divisions so we've had a look at some of the players in those squads as well as the impact the younger members of the first team squad are making. https://erimusfootball.com/2020/11/05/them-young-reds/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
