  1. These Championship games are coming thick & fast, next up are high flying Swansea City With not much resting time between games NW won’t allow his players to feel sorry for themselves after Saturdays away defeat to Huddersfield, when we were totally in control then just fell away, he will tell the player’s to dust themselves down & hopefully, a repeat performance of our last home game & make amends for Saturdays defeat With 2 defeats in the last 3 games the Swansea fixture is certainly a really tough fixture to try & get things up & running & go on another un

  2. Some interesting replies on crowds returning. I have a record of 65 + years of attending Boro matches and I'm anxious to keep it up but have one or three health problems so I can take no risks with Covid. transmissions. I'd love to go but it won't be until I've been vacced etc. If I can I'd love to go, even if its just the one game to keep up the record of at least one game in every season since 1953/4 keep smiling

  3. Assombalonga wasn't a mythical striker who scored goals for fun at this level though. He scored 15 goals and then 14 goals before he joined us. He then scored 15 goals and 14 goals for us. We got exactly what we paid for, it's just that we paid far too much for him in the first place. I'm not sure what it is about this that people don't get, unless they convinced themselves he was a 20+ striker somehow? Hugill is a beast of a striker. The best season Hugill has had at this level was last season when he scored 13 goals. He's only ever hit double figures twice at this level. When the

  4. I'm just glad to get sport back, at the end of the day if a team has a slight advantage to another who cares. Its the same with covid, a team could lose a star player for a fortnight if they catch it just like teams can be unlucky with injuries. I saw Lampard moaning about it the other day and some times I think you've got to suck it up and get on with it. Life's not fair and sometimes football isn't either.

  5. I hope they do anyway. Crawley/Leeds, Newport/Brighton, Stockport/West Ham, Chorley/Derby all would be good FA Cup ties to watch. I'm sure they'll find a way to get some of Villa/Liverpool, Arsenal/Newcastle, Man Utd/Watford, Man City/Birmingham on the telly though 🤦‍♂️

  6. Being a home tie there's a good chance it will be televised though and that will bring in more income for them.

  7. Platt was my boyhood keeper, couldn't kick a ball straight, unless he kicked it straight into touch, but he was excellent for years, I would rate him on par with Schwarzer and I think the Aussie would have helped to keep us up if he hadn't gotten injured.

  8. Fantastic OP! Think we'll see us bounce back with a thumping 1-0 win. Marvelous Marvin Johnson to make it 3 goals in 3 games.

  9. Really good OP. As for Wednesday's game, I hope Warnock inserted a rocket into one or two of the players who underperformed on Saturday. Yes, tiredness, fixture congestion etc, but to cave in against a frankly underwhelming Huddersfield side from a position of total dominance is pretty unacceptable. I didn't want us to change Saturday's starting line-up from the one that started against Derby, and I'd revert back to that XI for Swansea. Watmore and Roberts could cause havoc in the first half, and then bring on Marvinho to put the willies up the Swansea backline. If Britt plays as poorly a

  13. I wish youd do these historical facts for every fixture regardless of whether you're the match day thread creator or not - excellent stuff!

  16. You say that but when there is 20,000 people in there, noise is coming from all over really. I'm trying to think what the lowest attendances were that I've been to at the Riverside. Sampdoria friendly years back must have been a few thousand. There was an FA Cup replay against Wimbledon in January that didn't have too many there. Some early round cup games obviously as well. The atmosphere is usually rubbish and those attendances would have all been higher than a couple of thousand.

  18. I think Phil Parkinson is a very underrated manager. He worked wonders at Bradford, and I was disappointed he'd gone to the Mackems because I thought he'd get them up. He seems like a level-headed man-manager capable of getting the best out of limited talent, so the fact he's left after such an underwhelming spell in charge suggests there are really big problems behind the scenes. Season three of STD [deliberate typo] will be worth watching...

  19. It is very unfair I feel all our promotion rivals can have their fans back but we can't. If the whole league can't have fans back no one should as it results in unfair advantage!

  20. I’m more concerned with what NW didn’t do then did. We had 5 subs that could have been utilised and made a difference but despite Brit having his usual off day he did nothing. The game was running away from us early second half and a change at that stage could have made a difference but NW dallied. We should never had gone in 2-1 down at half time having blown a lead with a team that was once recognised as one of the best marshalled defensive. I thought NW hesitated and got it wrong and the worry for me, it’s not the first time

The Transporter Bridge is the symbol of Teesside for me. That and Roseberry Topping, but that's not even technically within the boundaries of Teesside.

Who cares what other people think about the Transporter Bridge? I want our badge to represent us, not remind people of us. If it were the other way around, we'd weave Jeff Stelling's rant into the badge and he's not even a Boro fan. 😄 The Transporter Bridge is a talismanic piece of construction of our own making that sits perfectly within the region of the Riverside and the immediate surrounding area. Whether it remains functional or not is neither here nor there, for me. I see it pretty much every day when I go to the office. When I was away as a student or working in London, coming back home by train, the Transporter was one of the last significant things you see pulling into the station and along with the Newport Bridge, it used to help settle me back into remembering my home town, firing off memories of home that remind you that this is where you belong. Not only that but in terms of the badge and the example shown, I think it looks really nice. The colour scheme, the architecture, it sits really nice in the design in blue, as a fitting contrast to the hard reds and whites, the waves representing the Tees which it stands across. I personally think it looks really smart.

Was just about to post the same thing. I didn't finish the second series of AWP but I remember that was the key storyline - they were selling the Transporter Bridge overseas - America IIRC.

I just assumed it was the current one, looks near enough.
