  1. @BillyWoofs_shinpad I get where you are coming from. But if we do get promoted this season I hope we go the route that Burnley (in 2014/15) and Norwich (2018/19) took. Obviously both ultimately got relegated and I'd love us to stay up at the first time of asking, but they both looked longer term. Neither spent millions as they half expected to get relegated anyway. But Burnley signed players that would be very good in the Championship and also had room to grow into good Premiership players with time. Norwich on the other hand importantly kept hold of their key players after promotion and

  2. I also don’t understand why we would need to save the finances for next year? Even next year, I see our chances of promotion only coming via the play offs and we are bang there with a shout this year, so why save it for next year? We might not be in this good a position next year. Plus, I don’t think the half mil we would fork out for him, as having any impact on who we might sign next season. But, he is the type of player who could make all the difference in a tight play off game. So if he provides just one assist in the play offs, that helps us get promoted, it will have been money week spen

  3. Have you actually looked at the table recently? We are 7th just one point off the playoffs and 7 points off autos with a game in hand. Just half the season is gone. Why do you think we will be closer next season? This is the time to strengthen.

  6. The comparison one poster cited - Watmore and Bolasie- how on earth can you compare the two? Watmore trained with us without getting payment. He wanted to prove he could hack it - and boy did he do so. He showed a desire and enthusiasm to want to play for us. Bolasie? Can’t see him offering his services under those circumstances. I simply don’t get the apparent eagerness for Bolasie. Certainly this doesn’t appear to be a two way thing. He apparently is holding out for a Premier club coming in for him with the full knowledge of our desire to get him. So we are his insurance policy - or las

  8. You make it sound so easy and as if it’s a given that we will be in a better situation next season. I just think it’s better to take advantage of the situation we’re already in.

  9. We'd be lucky to get 5 million for Tav. He's very important to us granted and we certainly look a worse side when he's not playing, but one of the reasons for that is because we're not exactly blessed with attacking talent in the first place. The likes of Eze and Jarrod Bowen went around the 20 mark as some of the best attacking talents in the league.

  11. The emoji sums that statement up. Hope you were being ironic! To do that, you need to have a stadium in the books at low value - under the true value - and sell it to yourself at a profit. I don’t think we ever had that and with COVID ”true” values for football stadia must have plummeted. Any attempt to sell stadium now at a profit would be impossible and any attempt to fiddle the figures would be insane given Gibsons role in complaining to FL about other sales. You might be right about FL relaxing FFP rules because of COVID, but there’s been no suggestions yet about it happe

  12. I think the big thing to remember about our finances, is we are bound by the EFL's profit and sustainability rules. We can only lose so much over a 3 year period, we may be at that very limit. Plus owners aren't allowed to keep pumping endless money into the clubs. That's why we've seen clubs sell stadiums/training grounds etc, to circumvent these rules. Gibson may well be willing and have the money to invest, but we have 1 hand tied behind our back due to the rules in place. If you then consider how vocal Gibson has been regarding following those rules, from the outside looking in, it se

  13. We live in strange times right now, which is why I think the more organised and experienced managers are the ones who are doing better than expected this season, such as mourinho or ancelotti and this is the reason warnock has got us to the miraculous position we’re in now. With his experience, we have a great chance of making the play offs this year, which then gives us a terrific chance to get promoted. Next year might be a completely different story. There will be clubs coming down from the prem with way more resources than us, then others might get more investment. We might not be in this

  14. If you had no affiliation with boro would you have us as a first option? He’s not a boro fan. I think he’s just waiting for any chance to play football but Everton are obviously holding out to get the best deal possible. He’s moved to anderlecht and Lissabon in recent seasons so it’s not like he’s scared to move. People are making an awful lot of assumptions about Bolasie and think boro is the most attractive club in the world and every footballer should have us as first option.

  15. Maybe cos we pied him off in the summer, so he’s waiting to see if he can get a better (prem) offer. Who wouldn’t? Especially in these times. Anyway, it’s good to know that our attacking players are so good that a pacey 30m player from a top 7 premiership club would add no value to our squad whatsoever. Promotion must be in the bag 😁

  16. So why hasn’t he signed if his desire is so strong?

  17. Not really bothered by the result. The player who created the two bits of class for them to win the game has more than enough professional experience compared to the majority of players out there. Feel sorry for Hackney he did so well but you’re still going to struggle when your partner in midfield is Lewis Wing. I hope most fans realise now why he was plying his trade at Shildon three years ago. I’d prefer to see Hackney on the bench instead since there’s actual potential there! I think big credit needs to be given to Bola for still playing to his ability whilst also captaining the

  18. Fair enough el1986 and although I love the phrase “door handle” I don’t think that you are one.
    1 point
  19. I want to respond to this, but I really don’t know how to say what I want to say, without sounding like a complete door handle. I mean, possibly the most baffling statement I’ve ever read. You don’t want to get promoted to the prem this year, have all the excitement that being in the prem offers, come into loads of money that we could use to invest in the squad and secure the near to mid term future of the club. Trying to establish ourselves as a premier league club. You would rather hang back and go up organically. Wow. Possibly the biggest crock I’ve ever heard. So, we keep the players we’ve

  21. Cheers Dan, I’m glad what I’m trying to say makes sense to someone 😃

  22. Just to add onto this, my point is I'd love us to have a longer term vision. Rather than getting to the Prem and spending hand over fist, getting relegated and then being stuck with some of those players again. Like we did when we got promoted under Aitor. On the Norwich point, the club management (board etc) have been really open about their plan. They pretty much claimed that they got promoted a season early, and because of that they tried to be incredibly sensible in their transfers when they went up. Admittedly they did sign some duds, but they didn't blow that money on them.

  23. I'd say it is. If you're wanting to avoid promotion and signings now to avoid breaking up the team, that surely means that you'd want to avoid signings in the summer to avoid breaking up the team. We're signing players in the summer whatever happens, the squad is going to get overhauled, and I'd sooner it was in the Premier League. Warnock signed 6 players in the summer of the Premier League season with Cardiff, 2 of those were back-ups, it's not like he's known for ripping up squads.

  24. Sure it’s not easy but it is possible. If we go up, of course I’ll be pleased, but if we don’t, I won’t be disappointed and I’d back these players with this manager to do even better next season. The majority of players are tied down on reasonably long contracts so we wouldn't lose any of them. I’m just looking at the bigger picture, I think we can build on these foundations and become a competitive top flight side if we do things the right way. Maybe I’m crazy, but those are my thoughts.
    1 point
  25. That doesn’t have to happen we can get promoted and keep most of the team in place but on the joint understanding that we will likely go back down. the team is just as likely to be spilt up by staying in the championship Tav, Spence, Fry and McNair are already being watched by premier league teams. Be a lot easier to keep them with premier league money than championship money.

  29. I remember SG backing Karanka one jan transfer window, but only after he had made a good start and we were in a good position. I think SG likes to see how we are doing before deciding if he’s gonna dip his hand in his pocket. Hopefully he’ll get 2 or 3 so n that will make a difference. But remember guys. Our current manager has won promotion 8 times!!! NW is the promotion king. Believe ... ✊

  30. It's not your money though mate. Gibson has always put his money in when were in good positions to try to get us across the line and I personally think we should trust him on this whatever he decides. It worked the last time we got promoted, he'll be thinking it's worth the gamble again. If we could afford bolasie for a whole year in the summer then why couldn't we afford him for 6 months now?

  34. I’d rather have Tav and Watmore in the team than Bolasie, it will take him a long time to get up to speed, he’s barely played and he wasn’t that good when he did. Waste of money. As for the outrageous claims that we all wanted to sign Hoilett, no we didn’t. I think that it would be crazy to spend big money on loan players in this current climate, when we don’t even know if the season will be completed. Footballers at every level don’t seem to understand COVID restrictions, a week or so after Warnock talked about stricter measures at the training ground, the virus has struck the team,

  35. There was a fair amount of first team quality in our team. Some of it shifted about a bit but I wouldn't say we were ravaged like some sides were. We had a debutant keeper who has plenty of experience at this level and a young debutant in midfield but other than that, there wasn't that much to say about our team that we wouldn't have expected if we were at full strength coming into this game. I thought we played well for large parts of the game, thought we at least deserved to go to extra time, created plenty of opportunities, the finish was just not quite there. Brentford managed to get

  38. Spence did play well, and I'm more than happy with him as back up to Dijksteel. I do think we need a versatile to defender who can cover left back though, if Bola gets injured or Covid we'll leak goals like a sieve with Coulson there.

  39. Yeah thought Spence had a good game at Rb. Hackney did himself no harm with tonight’s performance. Put him self about and grew into the game. Got to remember though that there team was also significantly weaker tonight. Probably more so then ours.

  44. Why don't people want Bolasie? Everyone wanted Hoilett when we were linked and they're similar age, similar players and both played under NW, only difference is Bolasie's done it at a higher level

  47. Yeah the Pfizer vaccine isolates the actual virus protein spike and places it inside RNA molecules (which are similar to DNA, but not the same). It's the protein spike that the virus uses to enter our cells, and then the virus once inside would replicate. With these vaccines (mRNA) they only use the virus protein spike on it's own. So it doesn't actually even give you a mild version of it. But the vaccine "trains" your immune system to recognise that spike in future and attack it. Meaning if you caught the virus later on, it wouldn't be able to enter the cells as easily. If that makes sen

  48. I think it's inevitable that Assombalonga will score a decent amount of goals at his next club, he's limited but he can score and there are teams that are much better at creating opportunities than us. I think it's right we move him on, but I'm already bracing for the tedious threads and posts whenever he scores.

  49. No it’s not, we are nowhere near promotion and signing Bolasie won’t change that. Next season is far more realistic.

  50. Can’t disagree with what he has done for us. However every manager has made bad signings. The keeper we’ve just signed has got received universal acclaim has he? I reiterate, signing Bolasie could prove to be expensive in terms of salary - something a skint club can ill afford to gamble on.

Cowans was a good player in a very good Villa side. Nicknamed Sid, I assume more to do with James than Vicious.

It was also largely because Warnock understandably kept getting short term contracts. Last 8 games, then a 1 year deal, then another 1 year deal. The last one to have a contract extended that wasn't about to run out was Karanka in 2015.

Does anyone know if Fin Cartwright has been injured over the last few months? Law McCabe has made the bench quite a bit but not really seen Fin there. Wouldn’t mind taking a look at him at some point before the end of the season - maybe an incentive for him to sign on if he really is the real deal.
