  1. Introduction I don't know where to start with this thread, our season appears to be in a state of flux and Boro fans are struggling to know how to feel We could probably do with a nice easy game next where we can get a win, who is it? In form Cardiff? Great.. The match sees two of the leagues spritliest young managers come head to head in what is sure to be a mouthwatering battle of wits.. We can rest assured that we have one of the best goalkeepers in the league between the sticks in Bettinelli Footage emerges of Boro defenders reaction to

That's not really what he said though, at all. Reminder of the comments - “It’s something we’ve been thinking about as a squad, and we’ve just come to this decision,” said Assombalonga, who took over the captain’s armband earlier this summer. “We obviously took the knee in the last game, but as a squad, we’ve talked about it since then. As a captain, I spoke to the boys because I wanted to take that responsibility. QPR didn’t do it at their last game, so it was something we spoke about. “There’s an important point to it, but I just feel now that there has to be action. It has

  4. I use to always tease people by claiming that cricket is not a sport. Anything that takes 5 days to end up in a draw can’t possibly be a sport. I once said that to one of the other dads at my boys football match. How was I supposed to know that it was Pete Trego 🤷‍♂️ (True story)

  5. Fulham have an option to extend his contract for a further 12 months should they wish to. I guess they would only do that if they wanted him back or his performances at Boro were earning rave reviews and figured he had serious value worth cashing in on. If Warnock is trying to get him permanently on the cheap then I have to say they have played a blinder this season.

  6. Yeah, he was gonna interview the players and now he's decided against it, at least for the time being. Bolasie was gonna be the first one interviewed and he's contacted Yusuf on Twitter too. This isn't the first time he's dealt with crap from our own fanbase either. The lad isn't from the Boro but continues to champion the club and the town despite all the abuse he gets and some think they're more worthy of the position he's been given than others. Why that even matters to these people, I'll never know. It should be a positive moment, big fan of the club gets to speak to the players.

  7. Perversely, I think we might win this one. Warnock seems to be able to say all the right things to the players before games against good teams, and he'll know how to outfox Mick McCarthy. I imagine there are some angry players in our dressing room after that Monk-esque performance against Bristol City, and I could see us coming out of the blocks with a point to prove. However, a win is irrelevant to our promotion chances, because we'll then fall apart against Coventry and get embarrassed again. Rinse, repeat.

  8. I don't know anywhere near enough about St Pauli or Bundesliga 2 to really say if it means anything, but I notice Stojanovic has only kept 1 clean sheet in his 8 games there, letting in 13 goals. In the same period Bettinelli has played 10 homes, kept 2 clean sheets, and let in 16. Fairly similar statistically, though I've not actually watched their games and I imagine Stojanovic made more saves in that period.

  9. 5 defeats in 6 at home. Think about it. 5 defeats in 6 at home. Absolutely shambolic in any standard in any league. Gonna keep this one short. We are going to get beat. Probably easily. Defeat, is of course, inevitable.

  10. I honestly wouldn't mind trying NML up front, makes very little difference to me. It really can't be worse than having Britt or Akpom up front right now, individually there's not a lot going on without someone actually winning the ball in the air, Akpom and Britt have shown they can't do it. Christ, we'd be better off putting Grant Hall up front in this system than any of those 3.

  11. Watmore up front for me with Johnson and Kebano out wide. No doubt we will see Britt huffing and puffing until he is taken off for Akpom to replicate the exact same neutered performance. What I would give to see a mean, hungry, angry Striker with a point to prove. Oh well, keep smiling.

  12. We're great at reversing team's fortunes. Usually for the better, but they can't get much better for Cardiff at the minute. I think we'll win. 2-1

  13. Mendez-Laing up front? He shouldn't even be in the side. Neither should Jonny Teflon of course but no doubt he will be.

  14. Mowatt is very high on my list of wants. Mowatt and Famara are my 2 top free agent wants this summer.

Honestly think it should be Fry. He's come on leaps and bounds under Warnock and definitely seems to be finding his voice and becoming the leader in the defence. Plus he's one of the few players in our squad who is from round here, which always helps. I know it didn't work out giving him it under Woody but lets be honest, nothing worked out under Woody.

  16. I'd be amazed if we weren't in for Diedhiou or Wickham and one of Hoilett, Waghorn or Bolasie if Warnock sticks around another season. If Mendez-Laing can drum up some fitness or form, a longer contract would be a no-brainer. Off that list I wouldn't mind any of Diedhiou, Mowatt, Murphy and Ameobi. They'd give us options to play differently as well as improve the overall quality of the squad. I feel like most of our players are much of a muchness, especially in midfield and up front.

  17. Hope no one is overly offended by this post but formed a list of free agents this summer who might interest us. My list is based on us remaining in the championship. GOALKEEPERS 1. Wayne Hennessey (age 34) 2. John Ruddy (age 34) 3. Kieran Westwood (age 34) CENTRE BACKS 1. Ciaran Clark (age 31) 2. Christian Kabasele (age 30) 3. Tim Ream (age 33) 4. Tom Lees (age 30) 5. Michael Morrison (age 32) MIDFIELDERS 1. Mo Besic (age 28) 2. Barry Bannan (age 31) 3. Alex M

  20. Haha true although tbf to him he had many solid seasons at West Ham and even kept out Randolph in West Ham. He been hit and miss at LFC but football is all about levels. Looking shaky at LFC needs to be balanced out by fact he was a fairly solid GK at a mid table PL team for several years.

  25. If we beat the likes of Derby, Sheff Wed, Bristol, Rotherham and Birmingham, 5 of the easiest games we've had on paper this season we'd be above Brentford. Even winning 3 of those would have had us competing for the top 2 spots. Weakest championship I can remember in years. It should be Norwich, Brentford and Swansea - comfortably been the best 3 teams.

  26. I can't see Gibson changing his rather parochial approach to MFC. I think whenever Warnock leaves, he'll approach a Steve Bruce/Martin O'Neill-style pragmatist. Cue dull, defensive football, angry OB posts, rinse and repeat. What I'd like to see is a long-term focus on developing youth rather than buying experience. We have an awesome academy that already produces talented young players. We could aim to more closely follow the model Southampton have demonstrated where young players come through and are sold to high-end PL clubs (okay, usually Liverpool), generating revenue to further stre

  31. I'm not so sure that SG will be feeling very altruistic considering the economic landscape we are in. Bulkhaul's outlook understandably will be cautious while the Hotel which was losing money anyway will have become an even bigger money pit considering the last twelve months of closure. I think it more likely he will sail a steady course rather than bring in a young modern Coach with a whole new backroom staff along with a clear out of existing players while he brings in those in his own image who may find themselves in fifteenth place come this time next year, sliding down towards the tr

  32. I thought that Bear Smog was deliberately trying to use psychological trickery and tomfoolery to trick the players into thinking they were playing away from home seeing as their home record this year is dogs#it. Just needed Warnock to instruct the Coach Driver to drive them around the A1 and A19 for five hours then stay at the Longlands Hotel Friday night and tell all the Staff there is a £50 tip in it for them if they speak in a Welsh accent.

  34. The past three games sums up our season in a nutshell. Just as we start to look like we start to look like we've clicked, we slump to an unforeseen embarrassing defeat. It's that inconsistency that has underpinned our season. Last season we were consistently bad, whereas this season we've fluttered between good and bad results. While we're disappointed and frustrated, we really don't need to rip everything up and start again. Sign a new goalkeeper, CB who is a leaders and genuine target man then we'll be good enough for promotion. We need to let Warnock build the team to suit his style, not ri

  35. I for one hope Warnock stays next season. Majority of people were happy/expected mid table when he took over. Now we are there and achieving that, you all want him out? This squad isn’t very good, certainly not top 6. Not to mention we have had key injuries all the way throughout the season. Dijksteel, Fry, Hall, Howson, Tav, Bolasie, Fletcher, Browne and I’m sure there is more. If you really think a new manager is going to come in here with this group of squad and improve it significantly then I think you’re dreaming tbh. We are punching above our weight, and that’s with Warnock improvi

  38. I expect a Boro win because we can't take out the garbage but we can give the best sides a run for their money. On Saturday night we will all be on here moaning after we win about where we could have been if only we had beaten Bristol. There is a mental fragility with this side that for some reason motivates them for the better sides but can't be Ar$ed for the poorer opponents. There are too many passengers in the squad who are either not good or bothered enough to start or worse still not bothered or good enough yet do start. No doubt they will all turn in a 7/10 performance on Saturday

  39. Yes, don’t you dare go to the effort of starting a new thread, the last thing we need on here is more discussion. The fewer threads the better otherwise it confuses peoples tiny minds.

  43. I'd love it if Yusuf came on here and became part of the OB community - despite moob photos and arguments about Extinction Rebellion, it's a pretty safe space here. It's like the Sunday Times of Boro forums, whereas FMTTM is the Mirror, and CoB is the Daily Mail comments section on the day the moderators are all off sick.

  48. With me its got to the stage were I don't expect anything positive to come out of the club and that's a sad state of affairs, and the blame lies totally at the chairman's doorstep, he has taken this club so far backwards its shocking. To be honest not been able to go to the Riverside this season has been a blessing in disguise and the only thing good to come out of lockdown.

I’d be happy with that, it’s hard to find a good proven and affordable cm and we’ve got one on a plate with O’Brien with the added try before you buy benefit. Ayling I think is a no brainer if he’s cheap enough.

Yeah just listened to the presser thats on website @Teacider and not sure if MC let slip but he said “there are important players here we want to keep for the long term”. Not sure if that was a general comment or one aimed at loan players. Think we will try keep Ayling and O'Brien and let go of Greenwood and Thomas.

No matchday thread so I'll shot it here. Sounds like we are interested in signing Ayling permanently. There are contract discussions underway with a number of players. McNair is back in training, apparently Lenihan isn't close.
