  2. I think people are giving Warnock the benefit of the doubt because he's done what no manager has done in the last decade and bring in quality wide options. Even Karanka, our best manager in that period, played Stuani out wide incessantly. Warnock has actually signed several players with genuine attacking promise, suggesting that the current tactic of hoof it to the (not very) big man up front may not be his long-term approach. Let's face it, Cardiff did more than hoof their way to promotion under him. With some time to bed in, a front four of Kebano, Bolassie, Watmore and Fletcher is mout

  3. Perhaps. But a player like Howson signing on a lesser contract, Fletch being offered a lower deal and considering it, and Marvin Johnson re-signing and actually contributing aren't exclusive of who the manager is. Getting players like Dijksteel and Bola to play as they have, and even getting the best out of McNair, are firmly on Warnock's doorstep. Even look at Fry now compared to when people were writing him off over the last 2 years. Then add to that the Watmore deal. And signing our first genuine wide players for *** knows how long. What happens in logic and what happens in reality are

Our situation is more like the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities.. it was the best of games.. it was the worst of games.. passes of wisdom, passes of foolishness. displays of belief and displays of incredulity, the season of light and the season of darkness, the autumn of hope and the January of despair... who said culture was dead 🙂

  7. I'm seen as one of the most negative people on here and in the predictions thread at the start of the season I said 8 -12th. We underachieved last season, were not over achieving this season. That will be my prediction for next season too. Warnocks game of playing for breaks and luck will get enough results in this league to always be comfortable but I genuinely think that that Cardiff season was a fluke. Other than that, every team who has been promoted from the league since weve been back in it have all been the best football teams. Football has changed, we can't expect to get pr

  8. maybe I am viewing events with excessive caution, but to me, it looks as though NW is trying to bring players in that are able to play in a variety of styles.. we are obviously able to go long even though we need a target man who can hold the ball and is happy to pass to a teammate.. and we have enough skill to be fluid when the opportunity arises.. we have battlers and even a bit of pace. the players being signed have been in positions that needed to be sorted and in most cases have had an effect. Viewing this as a transition season, I think we are in a better place squad wise than last yea

  11. I think Warnocks straight talking and working class background will be popular with a lot of fans. It was the same with Pulis for a while, the interesting thing will be when the fans come back. If we are grinding out 1-0 wins in a promotion push then I think the majority will accept that. If we are stinking the place out and outside the playoff places next season then fans will voice they displeasure. I don't think a lot of fans get wrapped up in the 'longterm vision' of the club they just want to see wins on a Saturday. Thats probably why this forum seems more negative because the conver

  15. They're the runners, still think he wants the big lump up top to win the aerials for them to play off. Be surprised if we weren't still playing a very direct style, hopefully just more effectively with an actual targetman.

  16. Stojanovic improved a lot during the run of games he had and I believe that he would have continued that improvement. When he first started playing games for us he was he was unreliable and I had about as much confidence in him as I do in Bettinelli. In his final games for us I had confidence in him being able to save most things that Randolf would have done. I stopped thinking 'Oh dear, a corner, we're going to concede here'.

  18. I'm fairly happy that Warnock is staying on next season. Let's be honest, after narrowly avoiding relegation how many people genuinely expected us to be in the top half of the table this close to the end of the season? Next year fans will be back in the stadium and that should be a massive boost. I'm not expecting us to make the playoffs but I am expecting some canny signings in the summer and workrate will see us up there this time next year, not attractive football.

  21. IF we somehow manage to get promoted next season I hope we just gamble and take on someone completely new. I really don't want to be managed by a Warnock or Karanka type in the Prem. I'd rather do like Southampton did when Adkins got them promoted and they changed him for Pochettino. Change manager upon promotion to someone with a more technical approach. We did the dull and defensive approach last time and it didn't work out. Let's just gamble on someone with a track record of decent football.

  23. The average life of a Championship manager is measured in months rather than years. I get the desire for a long term plan but we had one supposedly with Woodgate and that didn't last for long and worse still it nearly brought us down to a Commercially disastrous League One level. Financially football clubs outside of the Premiership are really struggling, it was only a few moths ago there was talk that without support some Championship clubs may not survive. A long term plan right now is firstly, survival, secondly try and get higher up than you were previously and the ultimate is promot

  29. I think they were different circumstances. Agnew was brought to the club by Gibson (the second time). Even then he had a long-standing relationship with the club going back 10 years on and off, and had worked with Gary Gill before that as well. Woodgate has also been part of the club for a good while and is a local lad, who Gibson clearly had/has a lot of time for. Blackwell and Jepson are outsiders who have been brought to the club by Warnock. I don’t think Gibson will have the same relationships with either of them that he had with Agnew and Woodgate.

  34. Sorry I should have said I am basing this on fact NW not rating Stojanovic. We can debate whether Stojanovic should start or not until cows come home but i assume given NW got Bettinelli means he will want another GK. hopefully not Bettinelli again. I also hope we do not spend a fee on a keeper as I believe if NW wants one then a good one can be obtained on a free or a loan if he still does not fancy Stojanovic.

  35. Warnock repeatedly talked about needing 2 or 3 players yesterday in the various pressers he did. I think he is purposely being clever here as imo he needs a minimum of 4 players and that is providing Fletcher and Marv stay. Britt is clearly on way out. If Fletcher and Marv stay i think we need the following 4 players as a minimum: GK, Wide men x2, Striker. There no guarantee Fletcher and Marv will stay so that 4 could become 6. Think NW alluded to fact Marv not happy with his game time of late even thought he now played enough games to trigger a contract extension.

  36. I had a discussion yesterday on Facebook when the club revealed the extension. One of the posters asked if I even live in Middlesbrough because Warnok brings a smile on the face to a lot of people in the town. I should have asked him if he knows a guy who goes by the name Changing Times.

  37. I'm not saying people are wrong to hold the opinion, but from what I've see this site has always been far more vocally negative than anywhere else since Warnock took over. It's not just FMTTM, I'm always checking Facebook and Twitter threads and throughout the season people seem to have always been generally happy with Warnock, even when we lose, but on here it's far more critical of everything.

  38. I think on the whole the majority of fans seem to be happy with it. I think if people can see progress in our league position thats enough to buy a manager time. It wouldn't surprise me if Warnock got us up next season as well, he knows how to get teams promoted and if he gets a good striker we might not be far away. The other side of it is what happens after that and is there a long term plan or vision. Maybe Gibson will see one year in the Premier league as enough of a plan and then we go from there.

  39. Just look at FMTTM, they are all delighted that he’s signed up for another year. I don’t know how censored it is over there, Rob has a habit of banning people that don’t agree with him, but I’ve never seen such one sided praise for a Boro manager. I don’t get it either, maybe we are the ones that are missing something.

  42. I've disagreed with the majority of Gibsons appointments since McLaren but despite that, I could still see why he made them. Even now, if I imagine I was the chairman and it was my money I was putting in I can see the logic with appointing a safe pair of hands with the likes of Strachan/ Pulis /Warnock. Where he's gone wrong is between those pragmatic managers he's appointed various other styles. This has meant we've had no long term vision and managers are left with players they don't want. The thing that surprises me is that someone so successful in business can keep making

  43. I’m watching the Liverpool game and it’s occurred to me that seeing as all of the premier league refereeing decisions are being made by VAR, is there an argument for assigning the top officials to championship games instead? That way the refs and linesmen can utilise their skills in matches that are far more difficult to officiate.

  46. Don't bother with a long term plan because it didn't work out under Woodgate? We didn't have a long term plan. Gibson wanted Pulis to stay on, not to appoint Woodgate, then when that didn't happen he settled for Woodgate as the cheapest option. The rest of it was nonsense to appease fans after appointing someone most of them didn't want. It was all for show. You have long term plans precisely because of the financial pressures on football clubs at this level. It stops you from blowing huge sums of money and then changing tack a few months later. It stops you from massively increasin
