  1. I doubt if England, Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy etc. all boycotted the Competition nothing would happen but the truth is that while players are taking the knee thousands have died working in despicable conditions under Kafala and their lives clearly don't matter. Desperate poverty has forced migrant workers to take the risks for $10 a day with their Passports confiscated, locked in concentration camps euphemistically called worker camps. Meanwhile FIFA will be banking £3 billion from the proceeds. The hypocrisy of players taking the knee last night was probably lost on many including t

  2. It clearly would achieve something, so why pretend it wouldn't? The Qatari World Cup would take a massive prestige hit if countries boycotted it because of their human rights abuses, the Qatari state would take a massive prestige hit and financial hit. 6,000+ migrant workers have died building the stadiums and infrastructure over there, that's not just bad luck. It's daft to pretend that every country is the same and you can't say anything because no country's record is perfect. It's happening now, it shouldn't be ignored.

  4. I reckon there'll be a couple of players coming in this morning saying they'll chuck something towards that. Was speaking for the dressing room and a lot of fans at the time.

  5. It would need to be a collaborative effort. If England abstained they would soon find someone else to fill the last 16 or at best 1/4 final spot. We would need the top 8 countries in the world to abstain too. If there was no England, Spain, France, Germany, Brazil , Belgium, Italy and Argentina abstained then FIFA may be forced to act

  6. Surely Albania or even San Marino winning it would humiliate FIFA and the host nation by destroying the credibility of the competition. We keep getting all these regurgitated "Kick it out" messages coming from the FA well if they want to be taken seriously now is the time for them to stand up not kneel down. The truth is they don't care about black lives, gay players, racism or sexism so long as the money keeps rolling in they turn a blind eye to it. The FA Premiership is now underpinned by ignoring the above basic principles of humanity.

  7. I notice both Norway and Germany have protested Qatar before their qualifiers this week. It won't happen here because our government sadly has strong ties with the Qatari state.

  8. It would highlight the horrific human rights abuses in Qatar, and publicly shame them on the international stage by having one of the biggest footballing nations refusing to take part in a tournament that they're only hosting through blatant corruption and bribery. Thousands upon thousands of migrant workers have died to build one off stadiums in a desert. Few things would make me prouder of the England football team than them boycotting it.

  9. That's a big shame for him, but he's still been an integral part of a promotion side for the second time. I'm sure he's loved this season after the shambles of a 2 years he had at Burnley.

  10. Gibbo has done his ankle ligaments and will miss the rest of Norwichs promotion push. Hope you come back strong Ben!

  11. Some very sad and bored people out there, what goes on in their heads is scary especially considering that they likely have the right to vote.

  14. I think what Sanddancer meant is that even if the major nations boycotted the World Cup, nothing would be done to improve human rights or workers' health & safety, simply because exploitation is so ingrained in the culture over there. If any official protest was lodged by our (or any other) government) they'd probably just tell us to get lost and that its none of our business how they run things in their country. Losing the WC would be embarrassing...but the Qataris know its not going to happen because it would also be embarrassing to FIFA to admit they picked an unsuitable count

  15. I think if one Nation took a stand there would be a domino effect. Admittedly not initially from the bigger Nations but I doubt it would take much for most of the Scandinavian Countries to follow suit and no doubt a few other Countries would be immediately under pressure with some players finally realising what is happening in Qatar along with fans and politicians becoming involved. All it takes is one strong FA with principles and morals. Failing that it is up to the players individually to refuse to play in the tournament however I doubt if players from Man City or PSG as just two examp

  16. This right here. It needs collective willpower and action from all the major nations. But there never is. When you combine that with the failure of the governing bodies to take any meaningful action, its no wonder there is no real progress towards actually ridding the sport of racism and homophobia. When the message from the very top is general apathy and there is little or no direction or support in the domestic game, it does make one despair.

  17. Protested, but still went ahead with their matches. It's disgusting but I honestly don't know what the answer is. If all the "big" teams boycott it then you run the risk of it going ahead and someone like Albania winning it.

  18. Simple answer, nothing. Ironically almost all the owners of contracting companies and site mangers, including HR and HSE employed workers from the continent they came themselves.

  19. A bit harsh @TeaCider24 IMO. The man of the match for me was the San Marino goalkeeper with at least six really good saves. There were 4 or 5 wasted chances over the 90 minutes but credit to the goalkeeper for keeping the score down.

  20. @YusufBoro good work my friend. I enjoy watching them. Have you managed to get any ITK transfer news for us through doing these interviews? If not I will set you a challenge of finding us at least one name we are after before your last interview. Haha

  22. Originally it was two teams from the same city, outside of London there were only about half a dozen Derby matches: Liverpool Manchester Birmingham Nottingham Sheffield Bristol Stoke It later grew into local rivals and even counties.

  23. International matches during a Global Pandemic seem frivolous and irresponsible (same goes for Champions League, Olympics etc.) to me. Interesting that Kebano and Bolasie can't travel due to Covid apparently to play for DRC yet other games can go ahead. We are now fully aware just how easily this virus can spread and having International sporting events before we have got on top of it are just unnecessary. Europe is now facing a third wave yet we are mixing squads of players from all over together and replicating it three times in just over a week, what could possibly go wrong?
