  1. The reality is, Evans is not much good on the pitch so the easy thing to do is just not sign him. That solves the terrible PR problem which the club might have. If he was a 20 goal a season striker then I could half understand the logic even if I don't agree with it, but he's not that either. If we are in the market for a bang average journeyman then it shouldn't be too hard to find one.

  2. Lion v Moose, Monday 5th April 2021 Kick Off: 12.30 Location: Stadia by the Tees "The next game of this season, Incase anyone is still interested..." Well, where to start... probably at 3pm on March 20th v Millwall would've been a good place! It seems that Warnock's boys limp effort to reach the playoffs has become every bit the improbable task some amongst us feared it would be. I was definitely of the opinion that this was the season that we would eventually come good on Gibson's 2017 promise to "smash the league." Or perhaps, more realistically, at least achieve promotio

  3. As a criminal barrister can I just add some of my professional thoughts. 1. Firstly not guilty and acquittal means the same thing. If you are acquitted of a crime it means you are not guilty of a crime. Therefore the poster who said there is a difference between the two terms i am afraid is incorrect as there no diffference in relaity at all to a not guilty verdict and a verdict of acquittal 2. Secondly When anyone goes to trial there are two outcomes. Guilty or not guilty. Someone is ASSUMED innocent if they found not guilty. The key point is this: Whether someone is fou

  4. More concerned about the quality than anything the more I think about it. If this is the calibre of player were looking at, the imagination were going to show, were going to be a longggg way off top 6 next season. I hope it's rubbish.

  5. We better not sign Ched Evans, really can't be arsed with that circus following the club. He's a bang average footballer and unquestionably a dodgy character based on his previous actions (even if found not guilty).

  6. I’m with DZ on this one. It’s a case I followed quite closely during it’s time. A few of the facts that didn’t sit right with me were She had no alcohol in her system the next morning when she went to the police. (Although did test positive for cocaine) There was footage of her leaving the hotel, bending down to pick up a pizza from the floor (in very big heel stilettos) and didn’t stumble/fall before returning to the hotel room. Suggesting she can’t have been that drunk The whole “when I make it rich” Facebook posts/messages she made and then subsequently deleted Evid

  8. Ched Evans... unbelievable! Please please please *** off Warnock! Feel exactly the same way for the club as I did when Pulis was in charge... absolutely nothing! Bored of putting up with absolutely *** and mundane football. Roll on 2023 when, no doubt, we will have some other dinosaur in charge.

  10. This is exactly the reason I don't want to sign him. Arguments starting over just being linked with him, imagine if he actually donned the shirt. There would be absolute pelters from opposition fans too.

  11. As I said before, the courts fail victims of sexual violence on a very regular basis. Despite a leap in women coming forward with cases, charges dropped 23% last year. Prosecutors are often pressurised to drop cases rather than take them to court, and even then for young men of Evans's age at the times, only ⅓ result in conviction by a jury. The Harvey Weinstein cases highlighted the dangerous "real victim" rhetoric - as did the Brock Turner case in the US. Johnson's victim was a vulnerable young girl who satutorialy couldn't consent to his advances. In a similar vein, Evan's victim was

  12. Woah there...at least there was irrefutable proof that Johnson had groomed and sexually assaulted his victim. Ched Evans was found NOT GUILTY after being made to serve half his sentence. Don't act like they're comparable.

  14. Probably the odd one out, but I sort of enjoy being in a division where for the most part, the teams are pretty even and you don't know who is going to win before the game starts, maybe the football isn't of the highest quality, but when there is a good move that results in a goal, it stays in the mind and gives a lasting memory. Obviously the object has to be promotion but trying to change a team completely in one season always seemed a bit of an ask and if we can reach the stage where we have a group that could improve over next season to challenge then that would be a start.. we do nee

  16. I’ve already written this season off, which probably means we’ll win this one 2-0. The lack of passion last game was a concern and I’m no sure where the motivation is going to come from in such a quick turnaround.

  22. Can we safely assume that for a multitude of reasons the fans (at least the ones on here which I'm guessing are fairly representative) are less than enamoured about the Evans link and would prefer that we looked elsewhere for our next overpaid lumbering non scoring striker. I am uncomfortable about several of the appointments the club have made over the years as it doesn't put us in a good light. As NB4 mentioned about Woodgate, if he was to become the Club's Manager I would have been more comfortable had he came out with a statement of some sort condemning his past transgressions and bec

  23. There is absolutely no credible footballing argument to bring him here. It's clearly evident by your desperation to argue the 'not guilty in the eyes of the law' line where you stand on this. Anyone with a shred of dignity knows that, regardless of the technical verdict, the incident and the subsequent court cases were morally bankrupt. So don't try and mask your stance with a contrived argument that he'd be a worthy signing on a footballing basis. You seem to be a contrarian who gets off by playing devil's advocate to just about everything that gets said on here but this is by far the wei

  24. Aye, but 66+% of women don't lie, as per the statistic I said about men of Evans' age range in court. Anything less than an absolute "yes" is not consent. Silence is not consent. Being drunk is not consent. Yes, Evans had been drinking - but being drunk does not amount to consent. Ever. The girl's sexual history is not consent. The whole retrial was a character assassination of the victim as opposed to a genuine second look at the case. It was abhorrent. It shouldn't have been allowed in a court of law, and it actively flew in the face of consent law in this country. My point still

  25. The woman was the victim. She was picked up by a colleague of Evans whilst inebriated and taken to a hotel room. The colleague then rang Evans, saying that he’d “got a girl”. Evans then drove to the hotel and joined in. What is it about the woman’s behaviour that you have a problem with?

  29. Even if you were to look past all the baggage (which we absolute shouldn't), he's no better than the strikers currently at the club, his goal scoring record is average at league 1 level and below average at this level and he's older than all of them. Hard pass in every sense of the phrase, not that he'd know what that means.

  30. Very true. NML has at least shown some remorse for his actions - and they affect almost solely him. Issues like this are also far more wide spread within football than many people realise, but as always money keeps things quiet.

  31. I totally agree with you, Snowy. I would be absolutely appalled if we signed Ched Evans, if we go down that route we might as well get Jinky Johnson back as well.

  32. My point is more the consistency with which we are hiring these kinds of characters. Can add woodgate into that too, though his transgressions were a long time ago and I don't think define him anymore. All of the above have been very recent history.

  35. I'm hoping it's more Nixon BS, because if we sign Ched Evans I'm honestly done with the club. There's more important things than football, and his case is a matter which means a lot to me personally in terms of the experiences of loved ones. The guy is guilty, no matter what the court says - it highlights the broken system surrounding sexual assault and rape in our courts rather than proves his innocence. The lad should still be in prison. Not earning thousands of pounds a week.

  36. How important are the games from now to the end of the season? Are they even more important is some ways? I don't think it matters now. Hope I'm wrong, but the players look like they're already on the beach, and Warnock seems incapable of motivating them. Would you play anyone that won't be here next season in the remaining games? ...can we drop Bettinelli yet...please? Bettinelli should never play for us again. My cat could do better in goal, and she died last month. Otherwise, I would play our strongest lineup. Wins build confidence, so let's try to finish strongly and make ou

  38. Great OP @marvin We are the epitome of average this season. With Watford flying high at the very top of the form table and Boro would rather start matches without a recognised striker, but rather wait until we are behind a goal or two before bringing Ashley (Tim nice but dim) Fletcher on around the 75 minute mark. Added to that is how terrible we are at home I expect nothing more than a resounding Boro victory. It’s the most Boro thing to do But like some bloke did a couple of thousand years ago this could be the weekend that Boro rise from the dead to inspire a charge to th

  41. I dunno - I think Gibson has ambition...or maybe he did but got it knocked out of him after our season with Monk. He's just never had a coherent plan in place to make that ambition a reality. He's just done things on the fly...gambled and hoped they worked out. But the stark facts are football has taken a financial battering across all the leagues. I don't know what kind of shape Boro are in to bounce back, but I'm assuming its not great. If Gibson wants us to tread water for another season or so , until fans start coming back to the stadium and they get some useful revenue flow

  42. Just having a look at the top leagues and their winners, I've looked at the winners since 1990/1991 season (30 seasons I believe). La Liga has had 5 different winners. Barca and Madrid have 25 titles between them. Serie A has had 6 different winners. Juventus and the two Milan's have 27 titles between them. Ligue 1 has had 10 different winners. PSG have won 8 and Lyon 7. Bundesliga has had 6 different winners. Munich with 18 titles. Premier League (First Division) has had 8 different winners. United with 13 of them. Scottish Premier has had only 2 different winne

  43. Yes you've summed that up nicely it does show how brilliant Alex Ferguson was, and to think at a very early stage his job was under threat at Man Utd, and the rest as they say is history. He would have been a success anywhere he was that good.

  44. Yeah, he won loads there, the United achievements rightly get all the focus but I genuinely think what he did at Aberdeen is almost as impressive given who they were up against. 10 major trophies in 8 years.

From BBC report on match tonight Southampton were forced into a line-up change when goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu pulled up with an apparent Achilles tendon injury during the warm-up and manager Russell Martin curiously decided that veteran third-choice Alex McCarthy should leapfrog Joe Lumley - named on the bench - to start.  🤣

Their owner is an attention seeking knobhead. "I'm going to appoint the first female manager in English men's football, why can't people be more like me?". Had a major press conference announcing her time in charge. Gave dozens of interviews across the media bigging himself and the club up for it. All done for publicity before replacing her 2 weeks later, after she'd managed one friendly, by a Horseman.

To be fair at the 1st of April they were 12 points behind Leeds albeit with 2 games in hand. They were in it but a massive outsider in similar way to Boros pursuit of Norwich, both highly unlikely outcomes at that point of the season.  Also add to that  I don't think many would have predicted since the 1st Leicester have dropped 6 points, Ipswich 7 and Leeds 8.
