  1. Warnock spent the summer saying Akpom was his number 1 target, then when he turned out to be crap blamed the analysts and not properly scouting him and threw him under the bus.

  2. Motivation for the player I would think. Make him feel wanted and he will feel good about himself and give you more as a result. It’s not a new concept

  3. Just a quick post to say that I am looking to run a Euro 2020 league based around predicting scores. I have a few ideas about how it would work but this will depend on numbers of participants. There are regular predictors in the oneboro predictions league but happy for anyone interested to sign up. In order to work out the exact format and to give me time to organise it properly I would like people to commit to predicting the league by Saturday 1st May. sign up below if interested. For those who have already committed in the predictions league post I’ve already signed y

  4. When we signed him he said he had wanted him for a long time and that he was his top target. Why would he say those things if he'd never seen him play outside of a video? Regardless of which time he was telling the truth, he was lying on one of the occasions.

  5. i don;t think he had any other option other than to focus most attention on the current season. consider where we were when he started, if he started planning for the long term instead of building a platform for the current season, we could well have been relegated. every signing could be hit /miss to be fair, Betenelli and Akpom have struggled, but Morsy and Watmore have been good. loan signing are getting better. Overall the whole squad has improved compared to last year. We still need more quality in key areas, and that will hopefully bring some consistency to our approach. Y

  6. One of my worries about signing Wyke, Diedhiou, and/or other strikers of that ilk is how useful they'll be to the next manager. With Warnock in charge, it feels like we constantly have to worry about what comes next. Warnock isn't gonna worry about that and Gibson won't either by recent evidence but the team's long term success is seemingly once again going to be gambled on imminent success. If Warnock fails again, it feels like a huge missed opportunity for whoever might come next as they inevitably get stuck with Warnock's freebies.

  7. I don't think we should change a thing in terms of our recruitment, just leave it to the usual suspects who have done such sterling work over the last decade. Why on earth would you risk all that and allow Warnock to try it his way. There is far too much to lose, more Rudy Gestede's and Adlene Guedioura's please. Let's continue overpaying for the next generation of overpaid donkeys for the boo boys to hone their skills on.

  8. Any way you look at it, our recruitment policy is laughable at times. If we can't get the players we actually want, we make do with ones who either aren't much good, or simply don't suit the system the manager wants to employ. Result? Unhappy players, poor performances and acrimony in both directions.

  9. He wasn't his top target, Moore was, we just failed on getting him in. However i'll defend Akpom in a sense, as he doesn't suit the system we play, nor should NW have outed him in public.

  10. tbf to him, he did say that they only saw him on video tapes and never had him physically scouted, and it was that, that he wouldn't do again.

  12. https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/boro-urge-teesside-football-family-to-join-boycott The message acknowledges it might not change anything. But then beyond the nuclear option, there's not a lot we can do as a club or as fans. I think the platforms do their best with the resources they have to manage the accounts using it but any computer-literate person could create a new anonymous Twitter account in less than a minute. So its their own policies that mean that aspect of it is failing. I'm also pretty sure fines and prison sentences would come if platforms like Twitter actually had informati

  13. Agree with this including the “whichever is easiest for you “ bit

  14. But not intended to show those absolute f**ktards who’s boss it’s intended to force the platform owners to take responsibility and create accountability for what you post. I’m sure a couple of clever algorithms or even proper registration process would catch and eliminate 90% of it. Also it was no great surprise to see how quickly the. EPL, FA and government can bring their full force to bear when their profits are under threat but when it comes to taking action in fighting online hate they’re just content with a shoulder patch, banner etc as they continue to kick the can down the street..

  15. I suppose the upside in signing free agent is that you can easier let them go for reduced fees or even give them away, if they don't break through or a new manager doesn't fancy them. You're not stuck with a transfer fee on the books that you'd ideally want to balance when you want to get rid of a player. We paid 2,5 million for Chuba, and he is horrific, yet we're probably stuck with him as I can't see anyone wanting to pay for him.

  16. It’s taking you a lot longer than normal for the Penny to drop @wilsoncgp. They are already at the club. Blackwell and Jepson are the obvious ones to take over when Warnock moves upstairs

  17. I think it's highly likely that Warnock will have a hand in picking his successor, or even be choosing the football direction from upstairs when he retires. We're likely to be watching this style of football for years to come.

  18. Yeah I'm not saying we will do it, just that it's doable.

  19. https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/highlights-u18s-romp-to-burnley-victory Another good win for the u18s today despite fielding a load of u16s just stepping up. They look set to take 4th place in the table, with only Liverpool and the 2 Manchester clubs ahead of them.

  20. I'd certainly rather play our own players than other clubs' players. I'd rather we gave the product of our academies the chance to play on the odd occasion than somebody else's. If we're after first choice strikers like Diedhiou, and Delap is just a prospect, sod him. If we want him because we think he can start games and improve our first 11 then fair enough, especially if we don't think Coburn can. But we shouldn't be hindering Coburn's career to bring Delap in. Warnock clearly fancies Coburn as one for the future so rather than put the brakes on him, maybe we should see how he does first?

  23. Great article...and I have to say this paragraph in particular stood out for me: Head Coach...Sporting Director...Head of Recruitment... Doesn't mention anything about a chairman. I'm sure its not the only way to run a successful football club these days, but it does highlight the need for specialist knowledge in different fields. None of which Gibson or his cronies appear to have. Also this... Can you imagine Boro managing to do anything like this with our current set-up? Almost makes you want to cry, doesn't it?

  24. Big win for a depleted u23 side in the play off hunt. Callum Kavanagh with a brace on his 1st start stepping up into that age group

  25. Not a huge surprise when you have a first name for a surname and a surname for a first name! Every time I read it I just want to yell FENTON, FENTON, JESUS CHRIST!

  26. The poor lad has his name written down as John Fenton every bloody week on the stats websites. Have to correct it every time 🤣

  27. We won’t go down the stats route when it comes to recruitment. Warnock said as much last year when he said about that player who was recommended to him that after watching him for 5 mins, he knew he was a bad player. We are going to go down the route based on Warnock’s judgement.. has he got a good eye for talent?
