You are very much a double edged sword at times, going with the flow and then having moments of being not the nicest of people on the forum and with a could not care less attitude. Know which I prefer, can't call you names as it is against my religion but something that sounds like hillock comes to mindš¤4 points

Scene 1: Int (Day). [Neil Warnock is lay on a velvet chaise in a counsellorās office. Beyond a desk with a miniature cactus on it, a counsellor is slumped in a leather chair, twiddling a biro between her fingers] WARNOCK: ā¦and when she said ājust this onceā, it was the happiest night of my life. COUNSELLOR: Well, thatās good to know. Anyway, we were discussing football. WARNOCK: Do we have to? It brings me out in hives. I never used to be anxious before I got the Boro job, but now when a decision goes against us, one of my eyes rotates in its socket. Itās like itās looking3 points

I think you'll struggle to find a fan, regardless of which side they sit on this debate, say no to a Ā£5m+ offer for Spence. That's a significant sum of money that can be re-invested into our squad regardless of us not losing much on his wages. The only hesitation I'd add is that giving this manager or just this club in general some money to spend isn't always going to result in good purchases. But then we might as well stop buying and selling altogether.3 points
-
5m + a sell on fee if he does somehow get his head on straight and I think you have to take it. With players like Spence the sell on fee is the important part of the sale IMO and we never utilise them enough.3 points

He's took a "knock" according to Warnock. Im going to read deeply into this as hes gone to Wolves for Ā£5m+Ā£17m in add ons if they score ten team goals next season3 points
-
I think the Spence situation is bound to bite us because he's clearly got something to make that many first team appearances at how young he is, but you have to take 5m for him. Even if he has ability you feel this may be our best chance at getting near the play-offs for some time, so 5m would be invaluable to reinvest in the squad.3 points

Me neither. If his attitude was right I'd be way more keen to keep him. Honestly, I'd rather have a competent journeyman who wants to be here than a 20 year old who couldn't give a toss. Compare to Bolasie (a loan player) who busts a gut to win us dead rubber end-of-season games and constantly bigs up the club and his team mates.3 points
-
I just can't believe there are people on here who have eyes, have seen Spence play this season and actually believe there's something there. Actually it's oneBoro, it's not surprising at all.3 points

At 20 - 21 years old- Downing had just come off his loan spell at Sunderland. Johnson had just been on loan at Watford. Gibson had been on loan at Tranmere. Adam Reach had been on loan at Shrewsbury. James Morrison just moved from Boro to West Brom with limited first team appearances. all of these players werenāt setting the world on fire at a young age but they were allowed to make mistakes, develop and grow. It would be madness to let players leave who have shown some promise. With Spence can anyone really say that weāve played to his strengths? Woodgate2 points

My understanding is its for players who were 17 and under when the season started, so Coburn can play. He played with Kavanagh up top in the semi final and bagged a hat trick. I reckon they'll want him to play in this. Cup finals don't come around too often.2 points

5mil was the line I drew yesterday and I stick with it - any less and no thanks, but 5mil plus and you have to take it in our situation.2 points

I can see why some ppl like Spence or rather see potential in him, on his day he can beat his man, make good runs with the ball, but this is not what he does often. Often he drifts in and out of the game, seen strolling around the pitch, when like some one made the comparison with Bolasie who is at the other end of his career, is seen busting a gut to get on the ball and try to make something happen, yes he may balloon a few shots wide or over the bar, but if you don't shoot you don't score, and before Bolasie came we seemed very reluctant to shoot at goal from out side of the area. I couldn't agree more about investing in our youth players and putting more focus on developing them to get them ready for first team action. Sadly that would require a manager and coaching staff capable of doing this. Think the academy staff also need to come in for heavier scrutiny. Boro ought to be the perfect club to do this. Its not like we have billionaire owners demanding promotion at the first attempt, or winning silverware every season. We should be a club that nurtures young talent and is capable of producing players good enough to compete at Championship level. Unfort2 points
-
The hell of it is, Spence could probably go to another team and develop into a good player...much like Traore did. We just don't have the coaches capable of turning potential into ability...at least not on the level Djed needs. So the real winner may well be the lad himself if we decide to sell him. Might be the best thing for his career.2 points

When did Spence last have a good game even a half decent one come to that? When he first broke through he looked to have pace and could worry opposition defences, that was great but then what, absolutely nothing and since then he has actually regressed and not just a bit but badly. .When has he used that pace to good effect this season? Inevitably when he has tried something this season it has led to him losing possession and us being penalised with a sucker punch. His effort in getting back to make amends for his errors seem to be no more than a gutless hop and a skip as a token ges2 points

Spence must have the best agent going! How he can generate any interest in his client and even potentially get us some money is phenenominal. šš The guy is extremely poor in all aspects of his game. His attitude stinks, he is extremely immature/unprofessional and doesn't listen in training and he falls over constantly on match day. Apart from the 1st 5/6 games when he broke on the scene under Woodgate, he's never pushed on because he's a very limited footballer (if you can call him that). He's up there with Justin Hoyte imo. He's played at RB in a back 4, RWB in a 5 and further2 points

u all need to cut spence a break. he got into the first team squad when he really shouldnt have/hes to raw. he needs a good loan down the leagues to establish himself and mature. hes not ready for them championship and his confidence is taking a knock. against lesser players in league two he will stand out and learn his trade a level thats not to unforgiving.1 point

Fair. However the difference is that we're seeing little to no promise with Spence. Naive defending, questionable attitude (at least overtly) and very little end product going forward. Pace, but that's about it. There are too many parts to his game that he needs to turn around to make it at the top level, I just see him as a player that is far far far more likely to fail then to succeed. So I'd gladly see the club cash in and free up some funds for some much needed investment elsewhere, especially given our actual first choice right back is so good already.1 point

Fisher is perfectly fine as back up or first choice in a flat back 41 point

No way will Rangers let James Tavernier leave without a ridiculous offer coming in. Gers fans up here love him, and he's seen as one of the jewels in the club's crown. Famous last words, but he seems happy in Glasgow and I doubt the club would let him go for less than Ā£10 million in today's insane transfer climate.1 point

God, I'm frightened letting that man secure our forwards for the next few years. I'm guessing if we want to bring in that many, we potentially want to get rid of Akpom too. Another stellar signing by this club.1 point

@RiseAgainst with all these insights you have into Warnock's private life, you could write an autobiography. Might even be better than Neil's. š Questions for the audience: 1. Who makes your starting XI? Dunno really. I'm torn between maintaining some consistency, just to get players used to playing with each other and sending a bunch of kids out, just to see if they can cut it at senior level. Since these games don't really matter, except to give game time, I'm really not fussed either way. 2. Are we seeing a golden generation of young Academy players em1 point

It is awful that there are people out there who think he could be a decent footballer one day, I agree.1 point

I can understand the emotive clamour for Brynn but it is pretty clear that he is already rated at the Club and therefore has little to prove at this stage of his career. I would doubt if Warnock or indeed any other Manager would put their Championship Promotion chasing hopes on a young inexperienced Keeper (n.b. two dead rubber games does not equal experience). We can send him out on loan to a League One or Two Club next season and let him earn well earned rave reviews and cuss that we didn't let him loose here. Next season Warnock will go with an experienced old pro between the sticks de1 point

Wow, so many contrasting views about Spence on here. Iām going to play devilās advocate though... He came onto the scene with Woodgate who promised to blood in the youth and has stayed as a mainstay to the first team. Is he first team ready? Not all the time, but he is at a stage of a squad player for sure. Some of the people making out heās dog water are overlooking this. the problem we have is that we are relying on players like Spence and Coulson and comparing them to first team regulars. They arenāt there yet at their age, but getting rid would be pointless. What message doe1 point

I'm inclined to believe that there is something more than pace there. The first time I saw him I thought Fulham must be daft letting him go. Yes he has pace and sometimes he uses it to our advantage Some times he's in the right place and if he's not he usually has the pace to get there. Sometimes he has an attacking threat and then sometimes he does not. Sometimes he fronts up as a defender and I'm likely to be told that most of the time he doesn't. I'm in the Warnock camp - he can be what he wants to be. If he doesn't listen and understand and apply himself then he will get wh1 point

So you're saying because he literally has a single quality - pace - that we can coach EVERYTHING else and turn him into a Man United quality player? Come on lad.1 point

Not having a dig at all, but on what basis would you say Spence has 'amazing potential?' Unless I'm totally off the mark here, I haven't seen the guy have anything more than a solid game since the first few months he broke through? Adama was someone with amazing potential... when you saw him skin an entire team then shin it off the pitch, you'd think 'wow, imagine if this guy could work on his finishing.' Or Fry, starting every week without looking out of place as a teenager. Even Tav, putting in regular MoTM performances at 21 (Spence is 20). Spence needs to work on his entire game1 point

Might pay for a few hospitality buffets though1 point

Djed Spence is better than Joe Bennet at the same age, and Bennet went on to have a solid career. whilst i respect people right to have an opinion, I reserve the right to think that some opinions are just pathetic.1 point

HES 20 YEARS OLD. I've said this so many times, the majority of players his age haven't even made a first team appearance yet and are still developing in the underage groups or in the lower divisions. Djed has made 59 appearances already, and although he has definitely lacked consistency and has struggled at times, he has also had some great games and solid performances in there too. Hes inconsistent and his decision making skills lack polish. DUH. He's 20, that's 99.9% of 20 year olds who break into first team football. But he's also dynamic, quick, seems to have the right at1 point

imagine the difference this would make if it were put into the championship or even spread across all of the football league. Insanity.1 point
