  1. I’ve never been particularly impressed with o’nien when I’ve seen him play. Feels like we’re shopping around in TK Maxx looking for a Burbury trench coat and we’re coming out with a discounted Umbro puffer jacket...

  2. Sure Sunderland will keep Leadbitter on in some capacity. If they dont and he wants to enter coaching think he would be a good youth coach here. Especially the younger age group in terms of providing first hand insight in to what it takes to be a model pro and how to get the best out of your ability, regardless of whether you are not naturally most talented footballer.

  3. The fact that it's instantly associated with Newcastle and Sunderland is reason enough to not do it, they've both played in that style for over a hundred years. Sunderland play in red and white and our nearest rival. We play in red and white. If we randomly started playing in stripes after virtually no history of doing so, it would absolutely look like mimicry of Sunderland. The pinstripes in 15/16 were bad enough. Should always have the band for me, barring Bristol City occasionally copying it, we're one of the few teams to use it and it's identifiable.

  4. So long as it incorporates a band to keep and build an identity that is instantly recognisable from the Forest and Liverpool kits etc. I can live with it. To me that should be the foundational starting point of a Boro Shirt and just for the avoidance of doubt a sash isn't a band. Sponsorship is a necessary evil in this day and age unfortunately. I would prefer a sponsor that didn't destroy lives but the nature of Football attracts organisations who ply their trade on misery in a lot of cases so it's more likely to be another gambling company who will stump up the cash. I have often wonder

  9. Yes there have been some horrendous versions of a band which weren't bands but almost, kinda, maybe bands that have shall we say illegitimated the concept. You mention Ajax and Arsenal as being synonymous with their kit so there is no reason Boro can't with ours. Brand identity is what highly paid marketing men (and women) try to strive for the world over. The three pointed Mercedes star, Audi's four rings, Apple or the Golden arches. When people recognise a symbol and instantly connect it with your brand it has succeeded. Boro would be crazy to throw that priceless marketing and identity away

  10. He is just bitter, that his side AGF lost 4-0 last monday ... Sory Kaba scored btw and was my man of the match - A lot of fight and determination - We could for sure use a player like him!

  12. I'm a sucker for blue-and-black stripes, so the away kit works for me despite the ridiculous Boys Brigade sash on the arm. The home top looks like someone's wearing one of those Under Armour fitness things over their replica shirt. It looks silly even when you're chiselled and rocking xylophone abs. If you have moobs...well, I'm sure I don't need to spell it out.

  14. Has anyone been watching Cummings being questioned by Parliament. He's certainly been brutal about the government and especially Matt Hancock who I bet is now regretting defending him so much re: Barnard Castle

  15. Remember when we were bragging about a worldwide scouting network. how times have changed we now have a subscription to the Sunderland Echo

  16. The Sponsor ruins all kits and the band is ruined by them. Personally I'd put the Boro badge in the middle of the band and stick the sponsors above or below it. That Pinstripe kit didn't sit comfortably with me. I felt like I was watching Forest when they had those Panasonic or Labatt's Lager sponsored shirts. It just didn't scream Boro to me and felt even stranger supporting the side wearing it. The Liverpool Crown Paints one was another that came to mind but unfortunately the stripes didn't make us play like them.

  17. Each to their own of course. As mentioned by others many times before, the band is immediately identifiable as Middlesbrough not just in the UK but across Europe to to the UEFA cup run. Seems bananas to me to throw that away. I think there’s lots you do with the band and certainly more than you can do with stripes.

  18. The 32red deal was due to expire at the end of last season so unless they've extended it we should see something new. I wouldn't mind if they stuck the airports name on the kit or something. Would be way better than having a gambling sponsor.

  20. Yeah, I remember that. But then you voted yes to Brexit making said scouting network more or less useless as we can’t afford or attract talent that comply with the rules👏

  21. What does it say for us that we can't even put genuinely informed people into a public inquiry and expect any kind of result to come from it. I don't give a toss what his reasons for doing this are. If the evidence he has to offer backs up judgements on the effectiveness of our Prime Minister and his cabinet, they should be under intense scrutiny from it. But I just don't see it happening. Cummings will be framed as an enemy of the people by the media and that framing of his version of events and his character is all that matters.

  22. Yeah, I was devastated watching on TV but it was really nice to see Conte go and applaud our fans at the end of the match. Guzan masterclass, nutmegged on all 3 goals.

  23. He was very complimentary of our fans when they relegated us as well. He must be begging to come and be part of it here. Although I'd advise him not to read the forums or social media or his view on Boro fans will change quickly.

  24. When I saw this, I thought you meant Oxford University! Still a decent backroom signing, though. Anything that'll (hopefully) improve player fitness and reduce the risk of injuries has to be applauded as a step in the right direction.

  26. It could be argued that there's a difference between looking at younger lads from lower leagues who are in the process of building their career, as opposed to more established players who are perhaps playing at their ideal level?

  27. I'm pro-band but not fanatically so, my favourite home shirt in history didn't have the band and I agree the sponsor's logo often ruins shirts with said band.

  28. Honestly not interested in any of the Sunderland squad, there's got to be far better players available in the championship and lower leagues that wouldn't break the bank. *** me Sunderland promotion chasing failures.

  29. Well that's left us in a pickle where to play him. I can see Fry Onien working well together. I just hope signing for us would leave a spring in his step.

  31. I love the shirts having a collar, so I'd quite like the next one to have a proper one with buttons rather than this season's plastic attachment with a tight neck. This season's kit has been the best in years just for design, but the material isn't particularly great, probably because it's synthetic and printed

  33. You build on your successes; that’s just good marketing. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. I also count around 30 seasons worth of a band, shoulder or chest detail. 18 in the last 30 seasons...give or take. I think we fundamentally disagree on this subject, so I’ll leave it at that.

  34. At least the band-or-no-band debate is keeping us entertained while we wait for the released list/some signings/the Euros. Personally, I'm Team Band. It's distinctive, it makes at least a section of our support happy (no mean feat in itself), and it means you can instantly spot the Boro match as you fast-forward EFL on Quest at 30x normal speed past all the Barnsley and Forest highlights, hitting Play just as the first goal goes in against us. Plus, the distinctive nature of the white band might just be enough to make that teenage billionaire TikTok star buy us instead of Rotherham,

  35. I see we're having our yearly "band vs no band" argument again. Personally I tend to prefer the non-band kits. I loved the pinstripes of the promotion season, if I'm honest. The more red with white trim kits tend to be more to my taste. I don't hate the band however (I bought this years home kit), but it is often ruined by the sponsor.

  36. Historically Boro have had way more kits without bands than with. Just 17 in their entire history - or 11 in the last 30 years. Also seems a bit daft to cement a design based on our 1 season in Europe. I mean until / unless we reach those lofty heights again, no-one outside the country (apart from die-hard overseas fans) will see it anyway. I also fail to see what you can do with a band other than what we've already done. I mean, its a fixed stripe across the chest...thats it. Plus as I said its usually filled with the sponsor's logo...so stands out less as a part of the kit's design IMO.

  40. here we go again white band gate vol 54. its purely down to personal opinion , i get that, but it divides our fans . Me, im not a diehard supporter of having it but there again im not totally a diehard of the actual red and white being the templateto work with. almost every team that has tried variations akin to the band has failed ,the only two exceptions that have been completely successful in varying to a design or style that has become synonamous with thier identity are Ajax and Arsenal. the white band was wonderful in its original conception back in 73 but subsequent horren

  42. That's rather lovely, isn't it? Mind you, we'd doubtlessly ruin even a top this attractive with the garish logo of a gambling company, pawnbroker or knocking shop. We haven't had a respectable sponsor since Garmin.

  44. As are many agents. Sucking far too much money out of the game while contributing nothing to it. Would be great if more players were prepared to negotiate their own deals and cut out the middlemen. Might even get more money out of it, with no agents' fees added on.

  46. You literally do what he said. Focus on improving the weakest areas. That's moving forward. We need another LB. We are desperate for a striker. Improving on Bola costs more than buying a backup. We have limited funds. So we buy a backup and put the difference into a striker. The team moves forward.

  48. What are britts strengths? Every striker we have we always say we don’t play to his strengths. What are Akpoms strengths? Fletchers? In my opinion they are all just bang average players.

  49. I said that Smith scored more than our esteemed strikers then you countered that goals per minute averages. That read to me like using stats to counter that Smith scored more goals than them last season which was a fairly basic fact. I'm not advocating that Smith is the answer nor indeed am I remotely excited by us signing him but he can't be any worse than those we have/are letting go. If Watmore can score goals with the same tactical set up why couldn't Assombalonga and Akpom? I have no idea why other than perhaps Watmore is a far better player and more intelligent in getting into posit
