  1. I was on the fence about renewing for next season but if there’s even a hint of Blackwell getting the job to replace warnock then I’m done. There’s no point paying to support if even the chairman has given up.

  2. See Ashley Barnes has been fined for drink driving. Broken the law? Over 30? Limited technical ability? Nailed on we'll sign him now. 🙃

  3. Eh? We didn't have the players to play Warnock's football but we were forced to watch that *** for a year anyway. Yeah, we could choose a manager who can get the most out of what we have, which clearly wasn't Warnock, was it? Give the job to Blackwell? *** me. Some of you seem to crave mediocrity, it's utterly bizarre 🤦‍♂️

  5. Brilliant final paragraph, Anglian. youve really nailed it there. Gibson has been floundering for around 5 years and he needs to look at himself and probably admit to his failings . he needs to do something i strongly suspect that he has grown unacustomed to and not very comfortable with and that is to admit to being incompetent and wrong in decisions. pride must be sacrificed and he needs to hands over the reins to a more experienced and streetwise navigator. theres absolutely and unequively still a major place for him at the head of things but a more astute football brain needs to be brought

  6. Yes, Brentford, good for him, Southampton also would be good for him, Burnley a disaster but Dyche is apparently now chasing Collins from Stoke (so maybe Dael has ducked that one) and of course Leeds which would be the most likely if the rumour that he is a home bird is correct. Valuations seem to be from £12m up to £30m with the pandemic being a major influencer in the valuation. That said Gibbo wants to keep him as does Warnock so no doubt money will talk ultimately.

  7. I think having three fairly solid centre midfelders (one dedicated to protecting the centre of defence) certainly helped. It shut down a lot of their effort through the middle and stopped Modric getting on the ball in dangerous areas. England ultimately nullified their greatest threat with that set up.

  8. No need to jump in Al and maybe my Brexit comment was a tad inflammatory but I am very anti Brexit so that informs my comments on that regard. Perhaps the heat had got to TC24 but as I have relocated to France I have already taken his advice! As for the rest of my post then yes I continue to stand by Gibson as he is the only one putting real money into the club Woodys signings have also generally come good and whilst it is my opinion (admittedly not shared by many) it would have been interesting to see where he would have got us this year. As for Warnocks targets they indic

  9. No wonder old regulars who have been part of the forum for years do not come on if this is the way they are responded too! Boro 86 and anyone else do not deserve to be treated this way just for a stance that may be different to others Frankly TC24 I am a little surprised

  10. Well I have just been down a rabbit hole reading old one Boro posts on Monk. This isn’t hindsight but when we got relegated I really thought we just needed evolution but ended up with revolution. Even after the ‘big names’ had gone we had a decent squad and an established way of playing. it’s a shame we threw so much money and mortgaged the next few years at the club on a really unnecessary gamble. I get why Gibbo did it, he wanted to appease the fans by playing ‘better football’ (whatever that is). Secondly it’s how he has always worked at boro

  11. Ah - okay. Well, it was still pretty ridiculous the way things panned out. Makes you wonder about the interview / recruitment process. Also speaks to a lack of communication and/or oversight when it comes to transfers. Again makes you think we really could use a DoF at the club to handle that part of things. The other thing I wanted to highlight was the ridiculous idea of throwing a load of money at a new manager and expecting them to get us promoted that season. Puts a lot of pressure on them and creates problems if it doesn't work out.

  12. I genuinely believe Dael would reject Burnley anyway after seeing how they treated Gibbo. I agree with you that Leeds seems the most likely if they are interested. I don't see him going down south, personally. I know the Gazette generally post pro club stances, but they're saying Fry wants to stay for at least 1 more year to try and get us up himself.

  16. We didn’t have the players to play Warnock style of football and so shouldn’t have extended his contract. But because we made a mistake in the past doesn’t mean we make the same mistake again. To fill our ranks with Warnock style players and then do a complete about face is idiotic. It’s exactly the thinking that has got us here. It may not be attractive to some but I couldn’t give a *** we were attractive most of the time under AK and it’s some of the most exciting times we have had in recent years. It was a massive improve on the purposeless possession under Mogga. We c

  17. Maybe someone with a bit of future instead of another start-stop season. Regardless of what happens we're likely starting all over again in 12 months and we're making the exact same mistakes like when we gave Pulis one year too long. Whether you like Warnock or not it's just a fact that the new manager next year will be lumbered with Warnock style players instead of just making the managerial transition now when the squad is ready for rebuilding.

  20. Actually Football Transfers was 37th on my list just nudging Global Warming into 38th spot and World Peace into 39th. Proud to say I had my priorities right. I voted for it, purely on the basis that it would maybe help take some of the pressure of Gibbo having to appoint another non British manager.

  21. Okay, lets just stop this nonsense right here. 1. 48% voted against, so you can't speak as if the entire country voted for it. 2. Football transfers will have been about 100th on most people's lists of reasons for voting either for or against it. So trying to use it as an excuse for poor transfer business is a strawman argument. Especially when other, better-run clubs seem to be doing okay. 3. Based on point 1, Brexit is still a very divisive issue, which a lot of people still feel resentment over. So bringing it up on a football forum is just going to trigger a lot of people an

  23. Phillips was quality and outshone Mason Mount who was playing in a role that more natural to Mount than it was to Phillips. I'll be very interested to see how flexible Southgate is in switching about his formation as things progress. I'm not sure that formation is going to be trotted out for every game. Fair play to Southgate though he got it bang on.

  24. Load of rubbish, your just using the pandemic as an excuse, we’ve been stagnating long before this. Even last summer we STILL managed to blow most of our budget on akpom, another totally pointless signing. We do it year after year after year, waste money on players we don’t need and then people like you applaud gibson for ‘keeping us afloat’.

  25. Just looking at the actual comments made by BD, a couple of things come to mind. For one, the comment BD responded to was the one suggesting we go to the foreign market to buy players, not them. Secondly, BD has said it wasn't personal, that it could have been phrased better and I guess that's up to you whether you believe that or not but it's worth remembering that whilst they demonstrate excellent English skills, they aren't English and perhaps it would be mindful to think about that before jumping on them. Finally, BD is right, people do make comments like DR said. To look at

  26. The talk around brexit and transfers is interesting. If you think it hampers us what examples can you provide of shrewd foreign signings we made before Brexit? Being honest it would have made no difference to us, maybe the likes of Brentford or Norwich but it wouldn’t have stopped us wasting 7 million on saville, 7.5 on fletcher, 7 on Flint, 15 on Britt, 2.5 on Akpom.... what is apparent is people who are pro-Gibson and think he can do no wrong now seek to use brexit as another excuse for us being also rans. If we can’t sign these foreign players then neither can our competitors, the pla

  29. There is definitely a sort of logic there. I think most of the disagreement is because people fear Blackwell & Jepson will just deliver more of the same as we've had with Warnock. Given there is at least some probability that one of them will inherit the post when NW retires, I think we should brace ourselves accordingly. I'd like to think they would be able to improve the team...and performances...but I wouldn't be confident enough to put money on it. I guess we also have to factor in how attractive a club like Boro would be to managers who want to play exciting, att

  30. I would happy to appoint someone who plays “some football” (whatever that means - I assume by that you mean fitting to your own personal taste) as long as we then appointed someone who played “some football” afterwards. If we were going to do that though the logical time to do it was at the end of the season and bring someone in with virtually a clean slate. If we do it next season then we are just repeating history by filling our squad with a certain type of player and bringing in a manager who plays completely different. The cycle then continues. And you would be the first to write

  31. Err yeah, you first mate. If you do a bit of historical research then you'll find that England spent hundreds and hundreds of years being attacked and invaded by just about every bugger, but especially the Scots, Welsh and Irish. Then after a long, long time of this we had enough, started giving some back, and got a lot better at it than the people who had been doing it to us for so long. Now, that won't be the history that you are talking about because the history you are talking about is limited to Ireland being the downtrodden victims. But before they were the victims, they were oft

  41. I don't think we deserve repeated comments blaming people on here for Brexit, it's a very divisive issue in British politics and millions of people did not vote for it. I certainly didn't. I was in a bad mood when I posted yesterday, so I do apologise to Boro 86 for the swearing at them, but I don't think I was wrong to call out the comment. I have no issues with discussing the fact that Brexit will impact our transfer strategies, it obviously will, but that doesn't need to involve general accusatory and disparaging remarks about the entire population.

  44. Hopefully it will lead to clubs in this country focusing more on producing their own players. The cheap foreign talent often isn't that cheap and isn't that talented. It's easy to highlight the big success stories but there are plenty knocking about at all levels that are no better than what is already here. The difference often is that it's easier/quicker to sign a 25 year old than it is to develop a 17/18 year old. Talented players from abroad will still find their way here but if the total numbers are reduced then that might not be a bad thing.

  45. I can't believe you've supported Boro from at least 2009 onwards and actually mean that. Do you really think its wrong to want the club to be run in a consistent, sustainable manner, where we aren't changing manager every couple of seasons, splurging money, then having to tighten the purse strings? Do you really think its wrong to want the senior management at the club to have some vision of how the club should play (preferably attractive attacking football...but...whatever) and recruit to achieve that goal, instead of just snapping up other club's rejects and general bargain

  46. How many times have you seen a player from another country come over here and struggle to settle. Not just for us but loads of teams. The option of a cheap import has a lot of risks. Proven championship players are what we need right now. Might not easy on the eye or a mouthwatering signing but can do a job. Which is what we need to get us back up to where we belong ( no Joe Cocker remarks please. )
