With all due respect, I don’t think it’s quite as simple as that. Take Alves as an example. He was the top scorer in the Eredivisie (not the worst division in the world) before we bought him from Heerenveen, and they were very loath to let him go. But he was used to having the ball fed to him on a silver platter and that simply didn’t happen at Boro. Mostly he was wandering aimlessly about waiting for a ball that never came. On the few occasions when it actually did happen – as in the case of the 8-1 thrashing of a very out-of-sorts Man City, he performed well. My point here is that all t3 points

I think Watmore could really benefit by having a target man in front of him to play off. Bit old school as in 442 with Watmore the second striker.3 points

Makes you shake your head in disbelief when you read stuff like this. What other business or sector of industry would you hire people like this? Did any of our last few managers ever sit down with Gibson and say, "This is how l like my teams to play, these are the sort of players I need...I have a few in mind, but lets put the scouts to work, scouring the UK and Europe, to find others that fit the bill, for the kind of money we can afford". Those that were actually there for more than a couple of transfer windows, that is... I think Boro have proven, beyond an2 points

We were benefactors of that rule, I certainly liked it in 2006 with Stuttgart and Roma!1 point

When I read and hear the type and level of player we are now associated with I really do despair. The club has slid to levels not seen for many a year in terms of recruitment ( if the linked list is correct). we are light years away from the Prem - indeed being able to compete with the top Championship clubs will prove challenging. We seem to have reached a level where our mere existence is the true level of our ambition. We are resembling the club in the sixties where we were able to compete in the old division two without troubling the top contenders. we are a pale shadow1 point

I promote the predictable, anything can happen philosophy. I believe England selection and tactic will evolve around caution. GS will be having flashbacks and he will be dreading loosing to Germany over any other team. As with all managers past, his philosophy is not to lose, not to win.Fear of loosing is a inbred English trait. If we play with caution we hand the initiative to Germany as there confidence will grow. There is nothing in recent games that suggests England can come from behind and one mistake could spell disaster. Germany are a unified team, England are skilled individu1 point

he was team captain and player of the season for Wigan in the year they would have stayed up comfortably had it not been for their administration. His fee was caused by their desperate need to basically sell of anyone they can and the price we got him for was an absolute steal. As Wilson says, we have just refused to use him at what he's good for, mainly because NW refuses to drop Jonny Howson.1 point

Yeah i never really liked the away goal. It's too big an advantage - almost like two goals for the price of one.1 point

Yeah I agree with bd. It won't happen because they're Warnock favourites but I'd love to start next season with neither howson or Nicky bailey as guaranteed starters.1 point

Suppose it depends on what you expect. Saville certainly is a lot more dangerous around the box and has three times the experience of Mpanzu in the championship despite only being 1 year older. Also add 31 international caps. Saville is virtually the ONLY goal thread we have from midfield, and you want to change him with someone less threatening. I'm not sure Saville is the one that needs changing. I'd rather change Morsy or Howson.1 point

I'd describe him as a midfielder who links between the holding and creative mids. I said before I think he'd be the perfect transition player in a midfield 3 of Morsy, PRM, and Tav - which would also allow Morsy to play a more natural version of his game. He might be another central midfielder, but I think he'd bring a lot of balance to us in the centre of the park where we have, at times, looked a bit frantic and clueless.1 point

I reckon a midfield 3 of Morsy Tav and Mpanzu would definitely be a top 6 midfield, Fry and McNair will be as good a CB pairing as there will be in the Championship so if we can sort out the front 3 we will be pretty close1 point

UEFA have scrapped the away goals rule which I agree with. I always felt it suited the home team in the 1st leg as a clean sheet was essentially a goal head start in the 2nd leg.1 point

Not sure that we are in that much of a better place. Some of the angst and ridicule may have subsided and eased off a little bit after tactics were changed (after fans pointing out the obvious) and results improved but the overall picture still remains unconvincing in terms of the attitude of the Club to the fans in general, the quality of the playing staff and for some of us Carrick himself. Time will tell and this Summer will be an indicator of where we are and in which direction we are headed. -

Our bench tonight could be one of great promise- I would like to see the likes of Finch etc be given a chance as I believe it is pretty much a dead rubber. We won’t make a play off spot. -

Out of curiosity, who was the last manager to sign a new contract? Seems a while since anyone put pen to paper twice. -

Think I would rather see Finch. He may be the future, Hoppe appears not.
