  1. You are making it out that Steve Gibson personally scouts the players and signs them. That’s not the case at all. By all accounts we now have a South American scouting network via Leo and his contacts over there. It would be absolutely negligent of Gibson not to look into using that network. Warnock appears quite happy to me to be able to avail of these players. By saying we are after one or two is him trying to dampen down the expectations a bit. I think it’s fantastic to have a dual approach to recruitment and not be stuck in the domestic market only. I’m pretty sure that there was a lot of

  2. Haven’t posted much as I got the person in trouble with the club. but Brazilian lad is in talks still With the club all about agreeing fee but he’s definitely interested. Spence looks Like he is on his way out a fair bit of interest him but fee could sort our summer transfers out. 2 offers turned down for fry and he’s told club he won’t leave!

  3. Payero might take a while to get used to the English game, he might not settle here, he might hate England or he might be rubbish. But for someone that has criticised the club a lot on here in the last few years I'm glad we are thinking outside the box a bit.

  6. I don't feel for him very much at all at the moment but if he steers the club in the right direction then he earns a good chunk of the credit. I don't quite understand what he's done right yet, though. Buying a player from South America isn't worthy of credit alone. It's something different to the norm which means it's definitely worth keeping an eye on. But I still have concerns about the idea he's just gone "Argentinians, Brazilians, yes mate, Juninho and all that, lets do the samba". Remember what happened the last time he did that? I'm on the fence about it all right now whi

  9. Could easily be read as Steve Gibson is more willing to spend the money on a foreign gamble, rather than Gibson is forcing this player on to Warnock. Warnock has spoken to the player on the phone, so it definitely doesn't sound like it's been sprang on him.

  10. Filling the team with South Americans gets a thumbs up from me.

  11. After my early question marks regarding us targeting Payero, I'm intrigued by Warnock's quotes within the Gazette today: https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/middlesbrough-monitoring-more-south-american-21073267. The quotes: "I don't want more than two," said Warnock, when asked how many South American players Boro could look to sign this summer. "We are looking at another couple of Brazilians and Argentinians, but whether we get them or not (is not certain)." "The recruitment guys gave it to us and then Leo looked into it," said Warnock.

  12. Maybe it will be a good thing to have warnock around and keep gibson a bit grounded when it comes to buying these players. let’s be honest they have a high failure rate over here and Juninho was definately the exception rather than the norm. I’d rather get 2 or 3 well researched players in than go mental and end up with half a team of players that can’t function over here.

  14. Steve Gibson always wants to gamble on Brazilians? He's kept that quiet over the last decade!
    2 points
  15. Exactly. The lad's gonna be flying halfway round the world to play here and will have to adapt to a very different culture and way of playing. He's also not gonna have much time to do it, if he's going to be playing in the Olympics. As has been said he's going to be playing catch-up to the rest of the squad. Thats an awful lot for a young player to deal with. I think we can expect him to struggle at first, but hopefully if he's anything like as good as the hype surrounding him, he could be a great signing.

  18. It was more the fact that that’s he’s not training with the rest of the Boro squad, settling into his new surroundings, getting used to his team mates, how they play etc and learning the Warnock way. I’m pretty sure he won’t have played much hoofball in his fledgling career and its a lot to take in 😁😁. Seriously tho, he will pretty much miss all of pre season, which isn’t exactly ideal. Plus, he will probs be off on holiday after the tournament or at least need a bit of time to rest a bit. Possibly go home for a week or two whilst everything is finalised. He might not even arrive till the seas

  28. Maybe it means Gibson is more likely to roll the dice on signing South Americans than Europeans, rather than selecting them himself or insisting that's what our scouts look for?

  30. Well yes, racism is a societal problem and it can rear its ugly head anywhere. But at the moment online and in-ground abuse of footballers is the hot topic, so banning known offenders is at least a step in the right direction. I've always maintained you can't control how a person thinks, so getting rid of racism in society as a whole is probably as futile as King Canute trying to stop the tide coming in. But you can systematically reduce the number of public places where these people are free to conduct their vile behaviour. Now its football grounds, but it would be great i

  46. That's on me for assuming they were white. Interesting. AnglianRed is a fella of Asian descent who is telling you all, who are white, why there are some issues with this. And instead of listening to someone with far more experience of racism, and being someone of colour in a country that is majority white, you are telling him that he's wrong. It doesn't matter what you are assuming, try listening to what he's saying, and understanding that he has greater knowledge and experience of this than you ever will, so may just know a bit more about it.

  47. One other thing that annoys me - all these people saying "I boo because it's a Marxist gesture" - ask them what they know about the theories of Karl Marx and it will be a very short conversation. People use it as an excuse to be a *** far more often than for any genuine, informed concerns.

I said all along that Carrick would commit to the Boro, I dont think he's done enough for a bigish PL club to take a gamble on him, not knocking MC one bit, im happy he's staying, if it's true, great business by the club, saying that if he has signed you would have thought it would have been made public though

I think the poor January transfer window, the cluster£u(k of the Early Bird season cards allied to the team and Carrick being booed after some underwhelming and tactically calamitous showings didn't and still don't lend themselves to any announcements aimed at positive PR. I know many will be ecstatic if Carrick has indeed signed a new contract but equally there will be a few that are somewhat less than convinced. It's all about timing and getting the maximum out of it, poor results and questionable tactics doesn't make for maximum hype and spin. meaning the news (if true) is saved for another week.
