  1. Van Bergen's not at training with Heerenveen today The fella asked him if MVB was there and he replied: "No, but that's no surprise. I - like many in Northern England - are still waiting for the green light regarding the transfer to Middlesbrough"

  3. I wish people would just have a bit of perspective. Let’s be honest, it’s our club and we love it, but we’re based in a less desirable part of the country, playing a turgid brand of football, and are entering into our 5th consecutive season in the 2nd tier. We’re not exactly an attractive proposition and nobody could really blame a player for snubbing us for a top flight team.

  4. Maybe Reims have hijacked the deal in the same way that the Italian top flight team (can’t even remember which one) hijacked the Payero deal

  5. As we haven't lost out on him yet we might as well all wait and see what actually happens. An opportunity to move to a top division in France is better than a move here, as long as the financial side of it is no worse. However, I think there's a reasonable chance he'll have heard the comments. I'd say an agent/agency would be keeping an eye on press mentions of their client, and given a potential move this would be even more likely. I'm sure they'd have passed on something like that if they believed it to be relevant. Whether the comments alone would be enough to make a player reconsider a

  6. To be fair I'd never heard of him until a week ago and the Heerenveen fans didn't have great things to say about him. Not saying he wouldn't have been good for us, but there are plenty more fish in the sea, as they say. We do need to get better at doing deals quicker though. Feels like we hang around trying to save a few quid here and there and quite often end up missing out.

  7. Good luck to Akpom. Brought in to play in a system he didn’t suit (shock). Carbon copy of signing Britt that you buy a player who doesn’t fit in to how you want your team to play and they don’t flourish. I don’t think Akpom ever got settled here or a good run in the team to show his true colours, but probably best to move on whilst Warnock is here. Who knows, when Warnock goes he could fit into a new way of playing? I also feel it’s super harsh to have had Warnock criticise him in public as much as he has done. Gestede and Britt deserved it but from what I can tel

  9. With this being out last fixture being the last before the first international break and the start of the next chants of its coming home. Boro Blackburn along with Man City Arsenal and Celtic Rangers has all the neutrals being treated to a wonderful weekend of football. All eyes and thankfully Dael Fry's as well (after last seasons incident) will be on this game. Its not been the strongest start to the season with a loss to the 10 men of QPR and drawing to Derby who are in a mess right now. If promotion is the aim this season that is a massive 5 points dropped so early on.

  10. Don’t blame him for not signing after Warnocks comments

  11. What happened to the smoke and mirrors that Warnock does for positivity? It's pretty clear to me what he meant when he said it's 'nowt to do with me'. He's made this statement on this player because it's not someone he wants. He's made it clear he wants players with Championship experience and Van Bergen doesn't have it, he doesn't want players like him, so how can you possibly read that any other way. He's made clear that position and you think that comment is about the intricacies of transfers, in that Warnock doesn't get involved with money. What other deal has he said that on? Wi

  13. I doubt Van Bergen has even heard Warnocks comment. People just using it as a stick because they desperately want something to beat Warnock with. Van Bergen is probably happier playing In a higher league for more money, just a thought, no that can’t be it, that wouldn’t sway him surely 🤔 We are a second tier team trying to shop in the bargain basement of a pool with potential to play at the top level. It shows ambition, but agents do seem to be using us to tout their player around to the highest bidder. We naively allow time to drag hoping we can get our man while behind our backs the age

  14. Oh the meltdown did not take long at all. Arghhhh omfg. This is typical us. Why does this always happen to only us??? (even though it does not and happens to many clubs that's not a valid point while i have a meltdown) Gibson out. Bausor out, Warnock out. Leo out. Scott out (even though he not here yet), and every other f**ker I not named out. Football out. I feel better. Thank you. Over and well out i guess.

  15. Why’s there always a blame? There’s a top tier French club that’s probably offered more money against a championship mid table club. Who’d blame the lad for going to France. It’s not always the clubs fault.

  18. If Scott can start putting the building blocks in place to replicate the sort of formula that worked so well at Norwich, I'm happy for us to tread water for a season. We'll be a much better club with someone like him making stable and consistent decisions, as opposed to our breakneck managerial 180s between Monk's two-at-the-back and Pulis's nine-at-the-back, Woodgate's rookie naivety and Warnock's it-worked-in-the-eighties dogma. I know Norwich are a bit of a laughing stock as they yo-yo up and down, but they're also making phat stacks of cash along the way, and they get to spend every o

  20. Only just caught up .. So MVB hijacked, then. Thought he was more or less done but not surprised at all that last second another club has nudged us out the way. Was hoping to refresh the board to some good news but it's hardly surprising we've stumbled again, it seems. Frustrating as it is, we're a mid-table Championship club and been stuck here ages with no real chance of going up as it stands... Let's be real .. hardly a thrilling prospect for any new youngster from a top league to sign up to who's decent. They have a hard enough job as it is selling our club to whoever we're aft

  21. on Van Bergen, we shouldnt worry yet, one news outlet has come out and said something. Even if we don't get him, at least we are looking at the right type of players in the positions of need.

  23. I'm not convinced that a middle tier team in Ligue 1 will pay any more than we will, honestly. Aren't a lot of teams in France struggling for money? Also, I'd be fairly confident putting money that someone important in the Van Bergen camp heard NW's comments, whether Mitchell himself or his agents.

  27. Hugill will be a very shrewd loan signing by WBA. Robinson, Grant and and Hugill as your strike force is varied and very good for this level. All offer something different. Totally agree with @DevKWat that Hugill here was very isolated and did not show the real him. I was happy to have him back on loan but with Uche coming in we probably don't need two target men.

Long time lurker, finally took the sign up plunge - have been unable to sign up for some time, dunno why but finally works (thank you for letting me in) Have been a Boro fan since the early 90's - originally from Boro - born in Saltburn and grew up in South Bank in the 70s & 80s, but have been London based since 2000

  29. same can be said for vossen, afonso alves among others. akpom has missed sitters to, he missed a pretty much open goal on his debut. didnt britt miss 4 sitters at forest the season we signed him to. unbelievable to miss that many in one game. lost count of the times britt had the goal gaping and stood on the ball or missed the ball lol. total spud.
    3 points
  30. And yet despite missing all those sitters, he is still one of only 2 strikers to score more than 10-12 a season in the last decade or so. You're missing the point here. What about guys like McDonald, Jutkiewicz, Rhodes, Negredo and Hugill? They all failed to hit double digits. Historically Boro have been crap at creating good scoring chances for our forwards. Typically we share the goals around the team, with midfielders getting at least as many as the forwards, if not more. Also defenders have contributed a fair few goals from set pieces.

  31. The mentality has seemed to be for ages that for us to score more goals we need to have a flash striker, without addressing the creativity problem. Ive lost count of the times Maddo says post match that “we’re just missing that little bit of creativity in the final third”. It has hardly been addressed. I’d be interested to see how many chances we create in each game in comparison to other teams pushing for the play offs. It’s not like we create lots of chances and strikers missed guilt edged chances on a frequent basis. I think it’s more that we create a few good chances an

  32. Boro are just crap at providing decent service to strikers. Its not exactly a new problem. The only strikers in recent times to have got a decent tally for a season were: 2014-15......Bamford......17 2017-18......Assombalonga......15 2018-19......Assombalonga......14 We have literally been a strikers' graveyard for so long, its not funny. We have had quite a few seasons where midfielders have out-scored our forwards...guys like Emnes, Leadbitter and Adomah getting into double digits.

  33. It's possible. People were panicking about Payero and turned out he was sat in Rockcliffe for days before they announced anything.

  35. No easy answers to this one, but personally, I agree with you that it's unfair to let footballers waive rules that are affecting everyone else. It's not as if they're key workers or their travel is essential, and they've been pretty well-insulated from the various lockdowns that have tied the rest of us in knots this year.

  36. some of the hysterics when stuff like this happens is crazy, it's like being annoyed that you don't win the lotto after you've gone to the effort of buying a few tickets.
    2 points
  37. Exactly. A lot of bed wetting over nothing. Sounds like lazy journalism or agents trying to get a bit more money. Rather than having a strop why don’t we just wait and see what happens?

  38. Like many managers before him, he wants to do what he wants to do with the budget we have and in some ways he's a bit unfortunate as he'd definitely have had something more like that here in the past. But I've no sympathy on that front. For me, the best thing I could say to Neil Warnock is a completely sincere thank you for coming in and keeping us up, same goes to Blackwell and Jepson, who knows where we'd be if we'd gone down that season but I don't think it's entirely daft to think we'd still be in League One now. But this club is still ours and the good will earned from saving us isn'

  39. Give over. It wasn't poorly phrased, it was perfectly phrased. Warnock has been a manager for 40 years. How many questions from the media do you think he'll have faced in that time? He's been there and done it over and over again. You don't think that by now he's aware of what he's saying when he's talking to the press? Come on, there's no way you actually believe that, so please don't act dumb to make a point. He knew exactly what he was saying last season with the no strikers comments, he knew exactly what he was saying with his comments on this lad. A fella with his experience isn't

  40. Hardly. Maybe they just have a better financial offer that we can't/won't match. Maybe he just fancies Ligue 1 over the Championship. Maybe he just really loves croissants. Nothing adds up to Bausor failing to sell the club to him or, in particular, Muniz.

  44. Obviously he's going to have a life a luxury whatever happens, but he's a brilliant striker and I think it'll be a shame for him to end his career without a proper trophy.

  45. yes i think there may possibly be more to it than that, its like he is publically letting us know he isnt signing some of the players without saying he isnt. i thought he was just saying that sort of thing to skip answering the questions on transfers more than anything. but when you consider how he highlights payero making mistakes in a game claiming he wont be ready for ages but in the same game howson is dropping blunders in midfield and scoring own goals. but never mentions that. make you wonder if he has an agenda agaisnt the 'nowt to do with me lot' and will give them little playing time

  46. Slovenia is on the green list, and their only away fixture is in Croatia which is also green list, so no. This international break will probably be a big boost for his fitness before actually arriving in England, hopefully he plays in all 3 games as he's not kicked a ball in anger since the 4th of June.
